I watched the Michael McDowell crash live. The speed indicator they put on the TV screens was reading, I think, 183 mph at the point of impact. The fact that he walked away from that crash is impressive beyond words.

After seeing Christian Elder’s crash here, I went and googled his name as I never really heard of him. It turns out this qualifying crash ended his short racing career. On an even worse note, I also learned that he died in 2007 at the age of 38. It was from a Meth Overdose. RIP.

6:20 I love how perfectly timed that "pow" was, also I think McDowell's crash looks really bad because he hits the wall at around 186MPH but it was far from a dead stop, had that been a dead stop he would've died but the car turned and the rear slammed into the wall and started rolling so the energy was able to dissipate well enough that he was able to walk away

Watching these wrecks at Charlotte makes me think....wow how did we get away for so many years that no one went down pit road wrecking? Other tracks some hit the wall (Bristol) or almost hit the wall (Dover). And just how wild and out of control it is to be fast at Charlotte for some of them...we got luck y'all...good heads up driving by Chase to keep from spinning down into pit lane.
