Falling asleep with KZbin running and waking up to this gem wasn’t on my bingo card today.

This was the first NASCAR race I ever watched as a 7 year old kid. This is when NASCAR was great. Look at the names, the cars, the sound of the cars, the crowd attendance, the atmosphere and enthusiasm! It's depressing that it will never get back to this era. I'm Lucky to have watched and seen NASCAR in person during the sports prime at Dega.
@Kin_Ton_Ti3 жыл бұрын
No kidding. I 13 when I watched this race and remember thinking there’s no way Junior will come back. I can’t watch it anymore. It’s depressing and the intensity just isn’t there.

When I was 3 years old in 1998, my dad had some show on TV where they were talking about how Jimmie Johnson had won some rookie award, and I said my first word (I'm autistic, I didn't speak a full sentence until I was 6). My first word? "Dimmie! Dimmie!" Why? Because "Jimmie" was the imaginary friend I talked to at night when nobody was around, and now he was on TV. I was fully, one hundred and ten percent convinced that my imaginary friend was Jimmie Johnson. I had the luxury of growing up watching every bit of his televised career unfold. When I was eleven or twelve, my brother and his wife offered a spare ticket to the Vegas Speedway to me. To this day one of my biggest regrets is saying no to that offer. I was very scared of sleeping somewhere other than my own bed by that point. That race is arguably one of the most legendary Jimmie Johnson wins in history, passing Kenseth in the last lap. Without this win, he couldn't have won his first Championship title and probably wouldn't have gotten Driver Of The Year. I had front row tickets to the budding of the blossom that is Jimmie Johnson's career and I said no because I was scared of sleeping in a hotel. Still makes me mad.

From 98-07 was great cars and engines. The COTs from 07-09 were okay not bad but not terrible either. Toyota entering, to me was indifferent, of course I’m a Chevy guy, but NASCAR just ain’t the same anymore, to this day I still watch the races, but only 4 or 5 drivers from this era are still in CUP.

NASCAR was on top of their sport at one time now it seems they have lost so many great drivers who retired from racing and never know what rules and changes they want .it appears if your over 35 years old now your replaced by a teenager . Great memories though here of the good old days!
