Somehow, I predicted this would happen. Chase Elliott's following in his mentor's footsteps. When they won their respective championships, They had five wins all together in the season. Both of them won two races in the regular season. Both won the round of 12 Charlotte race. Both of them won Martinsville to get to the championship four. Both of them started at the rear of the field at the championship race. And when it mattered the most, both were upfront and won the race and championship. While this is not the greatest NASCAR championship story in history, it is still a true honest-to-god passing of the torch moment, where one champion ends his journey, and another begins to skyrocket on his own.

I know I will, even if I was never a fan of his, but he's done so much in his career that you can't help but respect him, I'm sad that all the drivers I grew up watching have either retired or passed on (Dale Jr., Dale Sr., Jeff Gordon, LaBonte bros., Dale Jarrett, Mark Martin just to name a few) but the future is looking bright with all this young talent.

I watch more dirt than nascar these days but, I just want to say JJ has to be the most underrated nascar champion ever. He's kinda quiet and layed back in appearance. Did his talking on the track and raced clean. Top 5 in his last race. He can truely say " I Did It My Way ". And for him to tell Cliff " Nah, the doughnuts are for Chase", I mean that's classic Jimmie Johnson right there. Just a class act. Congratulations to Chase Elliot !!! He attacked that Championship.💯

Happy for Chase and Gustafson. I don't think people realize how good Jimmie Johnson really is. He had an incredible career at a time where the sport was as competitive as it has ever been.

and really his last two years where he went winless it wasn't like he wasn't showing any signs of competitiveness cause he was still leading laps and unfortunately he just had bad luck so i think he's still the goat going with a top 5 on your last race i think is how you end your respectable career

I know bro the crazy thing is that many people got to see jimmies whole career it’s just sad that I’m 14 and only got to watch washed up Jimmie and Jeff Gordon but now I have chase to root for I’ve been a chase Elliott fan since 2014 when he was in the training process for nascar he’s a good racer it just took those 4 years to get going and he showed that this year that he can preform like a well now champion

I became a NASCAR and Jimmie Johnson fan in 2016, but I was still so extremely emotional when he retired, even though I only got to see him win 5 of his 83 victories, along with only 1 of his 7 titles, but it was the 7th and most historic one. At the time of the 2020 championship, I was also 14 years old, but the emotion was still there.

Fox, you guys always nail these championship race radioactives. The editing is so well done and over the years you've figured out what's too much and what isn't, and this is the perfect balance of normal radioactive and lots of editing. Really did a great job of capturing all the great moments and the emotion involved. Also that cut between the 4 cars at 1:43 was just too clean

Man when chase elliott won this race me and my dad were screaming, we were so happy that our boy chase finally after so many runner ups in the round of 8 he finally got it man im so happy. I loved Jimmie growing up with Jeff Gordon and Dale, I'm gonna miss you Jimmie you were a good driver 😢.

I grew up watching the original 2000s Hendricks crew as well, and with Jimmie retiring, it just means the crew is gone. Makes me sad, but Hendrick has some great momentum going into 2021. Can’t wait for the years to come for Hendrick :)

I was stoked to see Chase win the championship. Like father like son. JJ was respectful as always. I hope Chase and Larson bring home the championship for 2021. I remember Bill racing that same number in a dodge back in the early 2000s and I’ll push it even further to hope Chase wins more championships even rivaling JJ for 7. A guy can dream can’t he?
