FYI, A lot of people have had major issues with their SSD getting WAY too hot or flat out overheating and stop working when they opted to not put the cover back on the SSD expansion bay in the PS5. From what I understand, the PS5 was designed with the intention of keeping that cover ON for optimal airflow to cool the SSD. So I'd play it safe for now and only use heatsinks that fit in the bay with the little steel cover on. It would be one thing if a ps5 was easily replaced.. but we all know that ain't the case..

I want to tell you that the Sabrent Rocket you've linked to isn't within the specs that's advised by Sony. They specify the minimum required read speed at 5500MBytes/s. FWIW The Sabrent Rocket _4 Plus_ seems to be fine. I got myself a WD_Black SN850 without the heatsink. I've added a (single-sided) heatsink from ICY-BOX IB-M2HS-70 on top of it. The heatsink is actually two millimetres too tall to put the cover back on. Which is even better considering the added benefit of some proper airflow.

To be honest go for a bigger heatsink and leave the cover of, the airflow will take the heat from the heatsink. Why close it..? These ssd's get fairly hot. As long as the plastic cover fits snug it's a better choice if you ask me.

@IntelligentProbe3 жыл бұрын
No, the sticker is made of metal and acts as a heatsink and will void your warranty if removed. It's not a paper sticker in which case you would remove it. That sticker will help trasnfer heat to the larger heatsink.

@PeterMarvellous33 жыл бұрын
In the official teardown they said to keep the cover on as the heat is draw away(sucked out) using negative pressure, it will be interesting to see if large heatsink and no lid is better.
@sprintingsnail94923 жыл бұрын
There's two small holes inside the sdd slot that allow air to escape via negative pressure when the ssd slot cover is on. Notice that the ps5 fan is situated right next to SSD slot, so the fan spin will draw the hot air out of the ssd slot through the holes in the slot and the hot air will be dissipated out via the consoles vents as pushed out by the fan.
@AHR_James3 жыл бұрын

@carolinagamer28743 жыл бұрын
@Jason Yuen I never said anything about the speed of the PS5 SSD. Xbox has had expandable storage since launch. While PS5 is just now getting it and it’s beta testing from the community 😂. So if you buy a SSD that doesn’t work Sony isn’t responsible for it 🤦🏽♂️ Sony should be the one testing this not the PlayStation community.
@hiawa233 жыл бұрын
@Jason Yuen But Phil already said the Xbox mem cards, capacity and speed will be updated at some future date so your argument really should not be an issue.
@carolinagamer28743 жыл бұрын
@Jason Yuen See the problem is you’re stuck on the speed of Xbox SSD when there is more to the custom Velocity Architecture than just speed. And the memory expansion will match it to the T. You’re getting memory expansion that just matches the required speeds and that’s it. And those SSDs will slow down the longer they get heated up. So eventually it will get too slow and will need to be replaced. Velocity Architecture on the other hand was specifically designed to sustain constant speeds for a longer time than PC M.2 SSD. There’s more to it than just speed.

@@N-Re-Kay look man, you know not everyone wants to pay 1500 dollars for a graphics card. And that doesn't include the rest of the components you need for a PC. I have been a PC gamer for the past 10 years, but I sold my PC last year. I prefer mouse and keyboard. I love the flexibility of PC gaming, I love the more open platform it is. But I was only using mine for gaming. And it was getting old and obsolete. So I had to decide whether I wanted to spend 2k building a new PC or just get a PS5. Since it's 1/4 the price and a very capable machine I went with the PS5. I miss some things about PC gaming, like I loved my ultra wide monitor. But I don't miss the cost. And I can play every single game on PS5 I would want to play on PC. Plus a few console exclusives I really want to play. When I can buy a PS5 and a new TV plus some games to go with it for less than it costs to build a new PC than the choice is obvious. I still love PC gaming. But it's not for everyone. Not everyone can afford a gaming PC and even fewer still would shell out for a top of the line 3090 equipped rig. The fact that this generation of consoles are what they are is a blessing to the PC gaming community. We all know devs build there games around consoles, and now the consoles are more like a PC than ever before. Games will no longer be designed around slow hard drives. Every game will be made with SSDs in mind, and that's because millions of consoles have them as standard now. And both consoles are capable of ray tracing. More devs will work on implementing ray tracing now that the console version can have some as well. It didn't make much financial sense to implement ray tracing when it was only for PC gamers who had an RTX card. Not many games did, or didn't implement it well. PC gaming is only going to get better now that the next generation of consoles is here. I'm not going to say consoles are better. It's just preference. But they are definitely not useless plastic boxes.
