For those unfamiliar, he could predict weather, good and bad, with an accuracy unparalleled. He made calls that went against technology and weather organizations. He was called upon even after retirement because people that knew him would listen. He was that good as a man and a weatherman.

The Oracle of Hurricanes. I remember for one of the storms that was coming in on New Orleans (Georges, I believe) Nash Roberts was the voice of calm. I was doing my own hurricane watch, and following the increasingly worrying track. Bob Breck was just about going nuts on the air, Dan Millham kept predicting a direct hit and repeatedly emphasizing WDSU's was the only official track or something like that. One in the morning or thereabouts Nash comes on WWL, with his big vinyl map and his magic markers, explains both the storm track and the surrounding weather systems driving it, and outlined how the storm would veer toward the Mississippi Gulf Coast and weaken as it hit shoal water before making landfall somewhere between Biloxi and the Pearl River. Went to bed right after that weathercast. Woke up the next morning and sure enough the hurricane went EXACTLY where he said it would.

I am so glad to grow up here in New Orleans, I remember watching Nash Roberts live on TV. He was also a Weather Man on other tv channels in the New Orleans area . I seen him in Hopedale area fishing with his son and grandson . My family had a fishing camp there, until Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans was never the same place afterwards.

Nash Roberts was a true New Orleans original, like so many others that worked at Channel 4 through the years. No one could imitate his style, and no one could surpass his expertise. We shall not see his like again.

I was 15 years old in New Orleans when Camille headed up from Cuba. Nash was the ONLY one who knew that it was making a beeline for us -- everyone else was saying it would intercept a trough and head toward the Florida panhandle. Thankfully for us (but horrible for MS), the storm was tiny (Nash said it was more like a big tornado than a hurricane) and we only got 90 mph winds or so in New Orleans, and no flooding. The guy was a genius. And now -- the weather people can't even predict what the weather will be like tomorrow.

I grew up watching this man in my younger years. There was a lot of people did like him, but they were ignorant to the science behind his forecast.

Even when he `retired', they trotted him out when a hurricane approached.

I respectfully disagree. Al Duckworth was the best, and it is Al Duckworth who was the Weather God.
