Hiya, fellow Canadian here! I've spent a lot of time in Padang and the beach always saddens me because it's a lovely walk but the garbage is HORRIBLE. That said, for the most part it's not coming from people littering on the beach but instead it's garbage coming in from the ocean current. As you have seen, all over SEA it is an issue and has really pushed me to travel with my own bag, straw, cutlery and accordion/foldable tupperware from Loblaws that I use for takeaway. Because I can see where single use plastic ends up I feel sick every time someone gives it to me.

Hiya fellow Canuck. Yep, I see more trash washing up especially after storms (and there's been a few) but I've also seen people littering. However, great to see there's more and more awareness (like those kids for example) so the future's looking better and better. I do carry a cloth bag (to avoid having to get a plastic one all the time) but as you say single use plastics are a bane to all SE Asia. Thx for doing your part eh. STL

Thanks but actually, 79k subs but only 6k views and the lowest watched yet of my Indonesia series (sadly). This is due to YT promotes vids based on how many of one's own viewers are watching initially. Since majority of mine are Thailand viewers, very few are watching unfortunately. Thus this and other vids in this series are not being promoted by YT (& 90% of a vid's total views come from YT 'recommended' & 'up next', algorithm). Padang used to be one of the cleanest cities in Indonesia till begin 2000's there was award trophy statue in the conjunction nearby basko mall, not far from our former house, but I noticed it's gone since decades. We're family are no longer downtown Padang city only till early 20000s. Everyone knew us owner of "PPLK NUSANTARA" since 1970s till early 2000s Indonesia's 2nd best private educational institution for typing machines, computer, account and English courses. Officially awarded for years by Indonesia's ministry of the education during Soeharto regime.

Man flights from and to KL are so cheap. But not from BKK and Jakarta, I'm guessin they have much higher airport charge for the airlines. I probably going to take Jakarta - KL first for my planned Thai trip, going by bus from KL to suratthani then Bangkok. More to see. And yes Minangkabau are matrilineal culture contrary to Balinese where the men leisures and gamble cock-fights while the ladies cook and work the fields. Btw, don't forget to clean your lenses, outdoor shoots can get it foggy sometimes
