There’s an argument that once cities no longer cared about infrastructure investment that that’s when our dressing up for everything went downhill. For example, after most of Penn Station was demolished it was no longer a grand event to goto penn station, etc etc etc. this happened all over the country. Now people goto airports with pajamas.. This was my grandmother’s time period. She was born in 1891. During her era, people dressed up to go shopping, go out to dinner, to travel, go to church or any public place. She wore a dress, corset, gloves, hat, jewelry and her “pocket book”(purse), hose just to try on a dress at the department store! Her Sunday finest! It was considered improper etiquette not to. She had her Spring/Summer clothes and her Fall/Winter clothes. She never wore her white Summer accessories after Labor Day and never before Easter. Her Winter accessories were always navy blue and were never worn in Spring or Summer! She starched and ironed everything! Even the sheets! She would scrub the porch and sidewalk on her knees with a “pale” and hand brush! She only wore dresses or “house coats” and never wore trousers! They were considered masculine. The era depicted in this video was the “norm” for proper attire in public. It amazes me how calmly everyone strolls about and no one is in a rush. It wasn’t considered good manners to be rushing about or to be loud in public. Keep in mind, this era was before we learned how to wage world wars. Most people didn’t yet own cars. The stock market hadn’t crashed yet. Women didn’t have jobs outside of the home or the right to vote. It’s a bygone era that my grandmother grew up in. It was the Victorian era. Thank you for this film. I understand my Grandma better now.

@@katiedunmore2184 WATCH: This video clearly says German Laws are different than American- KZbin Title called " From the 60 Minutes archives: Survivors of Josef Mengele's twin experiments " . What about the story of - Hitler, they claim, escaped punishment and lived out his life in tranquility in Patagonia until his death in 1962 at the age of 73. Google It. I think Hitler and Eva both lived common ordinary Life in Argentina Chile. Because this video [ “Eva Braun: Hitler's Mistress & Later Wife | Full Documentary | Biography “ ] also says that why would they burn their Boss with Gas? Plus back then News Paper showed duplicate of Hitler who just had Mustache just like him, his body was very skinny and that dead body face was very thin laying on bombed bricks. It looked more like they purposely put that body. Germany was known for very good conspiracy back in WAR TIME. I think they have taken off those online documents. It was a period of conspiracy and I believe that Hitler did run away because lots of countries politicians were involved in WW-2 that is why he got support to escape. Even America knew that he was alive somewhere in Argentina. They never exposed him because of their own fear. They kept it in archive those data in a Confidential Documents. The photo which they published of his dead body looked like double/duplicate of him. In past many places he was using his double or duplicate person to miss guide his enemies attempt to kill him. PLUS they never showed any one’s body his girlfriend or anyone who was with him. They have Never shown any proof about his death. Hitler arrived in Argentina two and a half weeks after the fall of Berlin. Two submarines were reportedly on the coast of Argentina before their occupants were brought to the foot of the Andes. Researchers have often claimed that Hitler survived because of the strange circumstances surrounding his death. Just two years ago, a huge Nazi treasure room was discovered in Buenos Aires, including a bust of Hitler. Researchers say the discovery "could be indisputable evidence" of the presence of "important leaders" hiding in Argentina after World War II . The FBI documents provide a fascinating insight into the very real fear that Hitler managed to survive World War II. Russian authorities have also claimed that Hitler was still alive - Joseph Stalin gently confirmed that Hitler did not really die. " . Some have claimed that Nazi leaders fled to South America with a treasure. "What we are doing is re-examining history, history that we thought was settled that Hitler died in the bunker but the deeper we get into it, it's clear to me we don't have any facts for it."

But the other very Old age person photo with curly skin does not look at all like Hitler. There’s such a tranquillity about the way people are moving. Today people seem rushed and overstimulated or slow and numb in big cities. I felt peaceful watching this. Edit - perhaps the film has been slowed down a little too much, nevertheless it is still valid to assume that at an age where technologies functioned more slowly, so did the pace of human life meaning there was less stress. In fact, if you go out to remote villages or to developing countries you can still observe this more organic, less machine-dictated pace of life. Secondly, grace and elegance were concepts people still aspired to embody. Young people today don’t compliment each other for their grace. In fact my phone only recognized the word as a name. Thirdly, praising one aspect of the past does not mean that I am unaware of any improvements made in the standard of living or society since then. Why assume that level of ignorance?

Happier? Maybe some people but not all. Not if you were a minority (especially black) with few rights. Also, the very young children working in factories and mines instead of going to school would probably disagree. Or industrial workers with 65 hour work weeks. As far as smarter, literacy and education rates have gone up drastically for everyone in the US, especially for minorities. And not healthier either. One out of every five babies died that year because childhood vaccines were barely getting off the ground. Cancer was a death sentence and penicillin hadn’t been discovered so people died from simple infections all the time. I get what you’re saying but you wouldn’t have found that slow life you’re describing in 1910 New York. Try a pre-industrial hunter-gatherer society. And I wonder how long it took for these women to dress, because they’re dressed from head to toes. Not only the big dresses on the outside, but underneath. Most of them have their hair in an updo style. Then a big hat on top of that. Then the corset, the brazier, petticoat, shoes, makeup, brush your teeth, small breakfast, and shower. Sounds like going to work meant getting up 2 to 3 hours early! Sounds very tiresome!!

What's so cool is how everyone is looking back at you. From their perspective they must have read in a newspaper about this new technology that can show you what you see. If you Google video cameras back then, they look wild, and imagine people seeing and hearing about this thing for the first time. So cool. The scariest thing is this is just over 100 years ago. 100 years from now is going to look alien to us.

I keep coming back to this and staring and chills are in back of neck and running through me as it hits me I am staring at the real PAST, real time on a world that has long since gone by. The people that are walking or riding in the early autos or riding in a carriage drawn by a horse are real unique individuals, each with their own history, their own life story, as real then as I am now. This was their world as they saw it and had to live in it.

To imagine everyone in this video had consciousness, we’re alive like us and had similar wonders, fears, hopes and dreams, are now no more. Who remembers them ? Their achievements their sorrows and their happiness ? They have all passed, and likely won’t be remembered anymore. Such is life, we are all alive and part of consciousness for a split second. Let’s try and remember that we are all part of the same cosmic fluke, of the right elements just far enough from a star and just the right tilt, with the exact composition of gasses that allowed for the evolution of a being that can look back at itself and the universe. We all acknowledge there is much we do not know, but at least we do know that we have existed, and that existence is a fact. Hope you are all well, and maybe a future creature will be reading this, in 100-200 -300 years ? If so … remember me.. I existed, just like everyone in this video existed 110 years ago. Peace

Job 14:1-3,5,14: "Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not. And dost thou open thine eyes upon such a one, and bringest me into judgment with thee? ... Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass; ... If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come." John 3:16-20: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved."
