The original bad boy of tennis, Romanian player Ilie Năstase is the subject of NASTY. More than just tennis, a new documentary that chronicles his life & outstanding career achievements.
Ilie Năstase was the first tennis player to top the ATP ranking in 1973 and is one of the few players in history who have won over 100 titles. His natural talent and larger than life personality, off and on court, have attracted the nickname Nasty and made Năstase an unlikely global star, influencing the sport forever.
Directed by Tudor Giurgiu, Cristian Pascariu, Tudor D. Popescu
Produced by Libra Films & MAX Europe

The nasty boys of this era inspired me to be a tennis player. They were artists on the court, showman, intense competitors, playboys, bad boys, and damn good at it! Can’t wait to see the movie!

Arguably the most all around talented tennis player of all time, but his antics detracted from the public remembering him for that talent.

My favourite player for ever. Watched him at Wimbledon. The most glorious tennis and such fun. He made tennis a joy. We loved him at Wim and as I recall they did at RG too. A kind man too. And other great players with him, amazing time, the best in tennis.

@@secretnoname9792 .. I'm coming up to 65 - I always preferred Bjorn Borg as a good example of sportsmanship - he achieved far more than Ilya Nastase and John McEnroe in terms of records and he didn't need to display bad out of control behavior to get noticed.

@@Chris_Sheridannot bad ! you can listen to Borg to see what said about Nastase . After brits banned Nastase and put him on wanted paper , it’s not strange that only Swedish tennis club invited Nastase ? very interesting documentary , i don’t recommend you ! stay indoctrinated and you ll be happy !

@@Chris_Sheridan Bjorn Borg came from a rich and peaceful country. Romania was a dictatorship where you either are too depressed to do anything or you need to fight every single minute to get that little something that is a bit better than what you are allowed to get. You need to understand the background from which people come from. Maybe you relate more to Bjorg bc you probably come from a place where almost all people around you behave like that and judge others who behave differently.

I've never heard of him until right now. They should call him Tennis Rodman. Seems like a character. I didn't see a tennis match on TV until 1980 and only knew about Connors, Borg, and McEnroe.

this was the "fool" that took the tennis game from the country clubs to the world. In those times, remember that tennis was a sport for elites mostly. In that era all the players were friends. They were calling each other nasty nicknames during games but they would go to party and have a drink after the games! There was Nastase ,Connors, and McEnroe , showmen and great skills, but Nasty was the one that led the pack.

what is sad is that a Romanian like you who did not reach to do anything for his country, talks ugly about other people that makes and made a country pride with his work, personality and devotion. Learn to be silent when you dont have anything to say to the world that you did to the country. Learn to be a nationalist and a silent person as what you say, is nothing demostarted with true facts but with gossips.

You are totally confused about this. Nastase was so good a player the authorities chose to make him a colonel. It was one way they could insist he play but also how he could be financed. Players were hard up then, prize money was trivial, you needed sponsors but at thd same time you had to be an amateur. Totally changed in 1968.. It was only in 1068 that players started to get some better money and all became pros, but that also led to damage to the game at times. How much do you know of those times? For example, many players boycotted Wim one year re a dispute. Ilie was **ordered** by Romanian authorities to play. He had no choice. It was the year we had all expected him to win Wim. But he was er knocked out in around round 4. ... Believe me, there is a lot to this history.
