One of Ilie Nastase's funniest moments on a tennis court was, if I'm recalling correctly, in a singles match against Connors when after Connors called Nastase a "son-of-a-bitch", Nastase walked up to the chair umpire and said to him, "Tell Connors to call me Mr. son-of-a-bitch"!😂😂😂😂. In a mixed doubles match that Nastase played in, the woman opponent was grunting every time she hit the ball, so Nastase started grunting deeply every time he hit the ball to her in a baseline rally even when he hit a soft underspin shot!😂😂

Borg lost him cool a few times in the US Open. Even lost points for it. Best mover on a tennis court I ever saw, but couldn't win in America. Was said they put him on floodlit courts against big servers so he couldn't win. Shame his life unravelled because he was such a nice man.

I remember watching Nastase play in his heyday. He could be funny, but he could be infuriating, too. He loved playing head games with his opponents. I remember him doing this playing mixed doubles. The other team was so angry they refused to shake hands with him.

While his numbers were very good It is my opinion that if he could have controlled his anger better he could have had a few more majors. I recall Nasatse having big leads in matches then take the match after getting a bad call. Arthur Ash to me played with his brains more then most other tennis players. The 1975 Wimb. As much as these guys are legends, the level of tennis back then was just very odd to watch now. The sport has progressed so much. I'm not just talking about raquet head speed and strength of ground strokes, because I know you can't do that with wooden racquets. But their level of athleticsm is just so low. The footwork, the serve motion, it's like they were playing a casual amateur game on a sunday afternoon in someone's backyard.

Is that how to behave..I think disgraceful. Illie rubs out the mark, approaches Ashe who is clearly not happy, laughs at him then talks smack.
