I’m from Mexico and now living in the US. I shared this video to my dad a few years ago and he told me “Son I’ve never heard Natalia before, she’s awesome, she feels like rising our Mexican songs again as a few decades ago”. My dad passed away last January and next week I’ll be traveling to Mexico to put his cremation in the Pacific Ocean off Mexico (Ensenada, Mexico was his hometown). After being introduced to Natalia Lafourcade through this video for more than 4 years, today I finally attended her concert. She sang all three songs in this video and many other classics. Her voice is just as great live as in this video! The band is also amazing! Thanks NPR!

As a daughter of mexican immigrants, ive felt a disconnect to my roots having always lived in the US. Listening to the first song filled a space in my heart that i didnt realize was empty. It brought me to tears. So much beauty, grace and joy in one song. ❤

¿Nadie pensó? Pero si esa morra, salió de una escuela de música muy buena(muy fresa también), si a eso le sumas que siempre estuvo bien apadrinada y rodeada de gente extraordinariamente talentosa, era más que obvio. Si miras un “en vivo" de esa época, no como fan, si no con ojo crítico te darás cuenta que no son improvisados, que ella junto con la gente que tocan con ella, SI SABEN TOCAR. En ella se conjuntan dos cosas muy importantes mucho talento y mucho apoyo. Por que como dice un comentario de arriba, ella creció como artista sin preocuparse por la fama y el dinero.

I’m sitting in bed at 3:30am tearing up even though I barely understand Spanish since I only took it in high school, but all I know is that this music transcends language, you feel it directly in your heart even if your brain doesn’t comprehend the words being said, the beauty and passion behind them touches the soul.

The songs of Natalia Lafourcade make me feel and imagine the typical Mexican cultures through her videos, such as 'Mi país Veracruzana', 'Mi religión', 'Tú me acostumbraste', and so on. In those videos, I imagine and think about traditional Mexican dresses, the Day of Independence, beautiful tourist places like Guanajuato, colorful Mexican food, and traditional dances. They transport me to a positive aspect of Mexican culture. From the perspective of an immigrant from Korea
