Unlike the Andrew Neil interview or indeed the painful flu-congested LBC interview, Bennett actually held her own pretty good against Paxmans predictably unpleasant hectoring. It's a shame his interview style now seems to be a template for every single interviewer on news programmes, I'm sick of seeing hoards of wannabe Paxmans desperately hectoring like tabloid journalists in every single interview on tv. It lowers the whole tone of the piece and leaves the viewer less informed than they were before they even watched the interview.

I'm no fan of Natalie but I'm seriously surprised she didn't tell Paxman to shove it after the first question.

One of Natalie's best interviews. She held her ground and responded with respect and was responding to someone who thinks he's grilling but in fact putting on almost a show rather than an interview.

She held herself well against what I believe to be personal attacks. I disagree with the Green Party but I respect the right to hold that ideology, their manifesto isn't laughable, it represents a belief system shared by many in the UK. Paxman should have been more respectful here.

It’s his job to get politicians to disclose more than their lyric-sounding party lines. And TV interviews with politicians are not normal conversations between acquaintances or people just met. In casual conversational settings, Paxman has no right to talk like that. But since most TV interviews are publicity stunts for the interviewee, it would be a waste of limited air time for him to not get valid answers for his questions. Despite that, in this clip the point of “against economic growth” is still not properly examined.

GoldenbanjoDJ The Green Party are social idealists. You can always defeat a socialist with logic. You will not have a problem asking a socialist what their ideas are. You will not have a problem asking a socialist how they will implement their ideas. You will not have a problem asking a socialist what affect they think their ideas will have after the implementation period. The problem is what realistic affect the socialist idea will have after the implementation period.

I am not a fan of the Greens but Paxman has no class whatsoever. It is one thing asking tough questions, quite another being obnoxious for the sake of it. I don't like her party but she is a democratically elected leader and Paxman should do his job instead of becoming the story.

I thought Natalie Bennett acquitted herself wonderfully here, even if she (and her party) are nutters. Paxman sometimes has trouble discerning between when it's appropriate to browbeat a politician and when it's not. Bennett is no Michael Howard; she was more than forthcoming in answering his questions, not to mention she had probably just lost her own election. Shame on Paxman for not understanding that this was not the time or place for his usual rough interrogation techniques.

Jordan Cartmell Your belief that businesses making money at any cost isn't the be all and end all of existence makes you a nutter. ;-)
@SuperSupermanX19999 жыл бұрын
Jordan Cartmell The citizens allowance that would cost hundreds of billions of pounds a year makes you nutty. The removal of our arms industry and trade, cutting off a sizable portion of our national income is what makes you nutty, especially since that would mean there's less money with which to pay for that unaffordable citizens allowance. Wanting organisations such as Al Qaeda, the IRA, and ISIS, to be made legal in the name of "freedom of speech" makes you nutty. Wanting completely open doors so that anyone, regardless of what they'll contribute to the country, can come in makes you nutty, especially since that will sap even more resources that would make it harder for us to pay for that citizens allowance that you're so fond of. I could go on.
@SuperSupermanX19999 жыл бұрын
Jordan Cartmell Well you did ask what it was about the Green Party that was nutty. If you don't agree with so many of their policies, why would you vote Green and not, say, Labour or Lib Dem?

On migration the sad fact is that countries with high population densities (such as many in Europe and exemplified by the UK) already have need to import vast amounts of food simply so as to feed their own burgeoning populations. Much of this food is already imported, presumably, from countries that people are leaving. Many of these countries, particularly in Africa have exceedingly high birthrates while, in comparison, the relatively slow natural population growth of European countries remains much more closely in line with the rate of improvement in food production. Rates of population growth in many of the countries that people are leaving are way in excess of rates of improvements in food production techniques. It makes absolutely no environmental sense to take people from countries where per capita resource use is low and allow the import of such people into countries where per capita resource use is high. It makes no sense to import both people and food into the same densely populated areas. People should have support and opportunity in their own countries of origin. Destabilizing and prejudiced regimes that prompt attempts at migration should be opposed. Population concern organisations (such as at www.populationmatters.org/) should be urgently referenced and supported. Things may potentially only going to get worse when, at some time in the future, we run out of stocks of non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels and in which we may need to use the land that is currently used to produce food so as to produce forms of energy. Potential migrants should be informed of the relevant facts regarding the global economic and environmental situation because, every migrant that makes it into countries like the UK, just adds to the problem of the global situation. Problems need to be solved at source. Education is required in all ways especially the education and empowerment of women which lacks support or is unjustly opposed in some cultures. The facts are that when women are educated, rates of population growth moderate. For the related David Attenborough documentary search on: How Many People Can Live On Planet Earth Quote: 'Anyone who believes in indefinite growth in anything physical, on a physically finite planet, is either mad or an economist.' Kenneth Boulding Whether we like it or not there are limits

I have no regard for the Greens, indeed no regard for any band of middle class university educated people who claim to represent the working people yet refuse to announce a complete reversal of ante-union legislation if they get elected. That said, I watched part of this awful show on election night and Paxman was woefully out of his depth trying to be funny (although actual so called funny man Mitchell did a good impression of someone totally bereft of a sense of humour). So it seemed upon watching this that Paxamn took his frustration at knowing deep down he had failed to be remotely witty out on this woman. To make it worse still, after personally insulting her to cries of the baying audience, at the end he cowardly says she is a good sport - if you are going to be a bully at least have the guts to want to be one instead of clearly doing it for the money and then trying to squirm out of the responsibility of how you make your victims feel right at the end.
