Métis is traditional dancing of Great Britain and Native Mohawk as a way of tapping to the rhythm of the fiddle. In this case it is a drum as a modern drum set I am dancing to as a unique way of tap dancing to a drum set. Hence the Drum Dance Natalie McMaster the Métis Tap dancer in New Brunswick Queen and Chief Natalie Helferty of all of Canada

I've done dancing like this before. Not to this caliber obviously, but it's HARD on your knees.

The mics are on or beneath the ground. Looking at the squares in front of the stage tells us that in this case the mics are placed "on" the stage floor.

Oh man, it's so funny that you should bring me back to this comment now -- I actually learned some Cape Breton steps a few months ago, so the style is totally recognizable to me a year after having asked this! I definitely appreciate the explanation, though :)

She's from Cape Breton, a Scottish-heritage enclave in Nova Scotia, Canada: her playing and clogging derive from that tradition; nothing much Irish about it . . .
