Http://www.hitfix.com Natalie Portman speaks with Hitfix's Drew McWeeny about her new film "Black Swan" as well as "Your Highness" and other projects.
"With "Black Swan," Natalie Portman had to learn to do something convincingly on camera that people train their whole lives to do, and even with the training she had in childhood, she still ended up pushing herself further than I think she bargained for, training for a full year for the film. We discussed that and many other things when we sat down for this extended interview at the W Hotel in Hollywood a few weekends ago.
In person, Portman is stunning, which is to be expected, but before we rolled the cameras, I was struck by just how funny and sharp she was. I'm excited to see her show up in the positively deranged "Your Highness" next year, and we talk about that a bit too in the interview." -Drew McWeeny

This was a very good interview. The interviewer actually asked intelligent questions that meant to explore the film and the character. How refreshing! And I love Portman's answer's also very intelligent and insightful. Her performance was truly inspired and is Oscar worthy.

@rumpwrestler She's an actress, not a dancer. Gerard Butler as the Phantom of the Opera was awesome, even though he's not a great singer. Tim Roth is not a pianist but he was sure brilliant in The Legend of 1900. Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, Kate Winslet, Adrien Brody, Helena Bonham Carter [..i could go on..] they did a Kick-Ass-Performance and so did Natalie.

Natalie Portman is a Harvard Alumni. Yes she did all those dances and went through months of vigorous training 6 days a week for 12 hours starting from 5:30 along with filming etc. She is very intelligent along with beautiful some things that not every actor has is the education. She's great and well rounded. so to everyone. shes not fake. shes great. im just tired of reading these retarded post about peoples assumptions about her being atheist etc. get your facts straight first.

@ThereYouGoGirl There are actually quite a few messages in the film. Important ones being the transformations of people's personalities as they move into the spotlight and the pressure of fame/performing. It is a reflection of show business. How it doesn't care about the people (Nina), the only thing that matters is a perfect show. It is this quest for perfection that causes Nina to lose her mind. there are other themes too. Look up Roger Ebert's interpretation for more information.

You don't think the stunt double deserve any credit at all? it takes upto something like 10years to pull off some of those dance sequence in the movie; not within a year which everyone in the team had said. Not only the stunt double, it gives a bad name to all the ballerinas too.

@101jecca Nah you misread. I'm saying she doesnt use big or unusual words. I'm saying she's smart because she puts a lot of thought behind her answers and she goes above and beyond, while many people who are interviewed just answer in black and white. And I do read. Quite a bit actually. I read enough to know that you mean "because". =P I understand why you said what you said, though. Simple misunderstanding. =]

@mypixielove You are insane if you think she "did absolutely every dance on her own." Dancing like that takes YEARS of dedicated practice, and from the many people who work very hard from a young age to become professional dancers, only a tiny percentage make the cut.

@rumpwrestler lol of course to actual ballet dancers she can't dance, she only trained for a year, the dancers that work at the companies usually train all their lives since they can walk. But I can assure you to the casual observer who is ignorant of what a ballerina moves like, she definately looks like the real thing. Plus this isnt Step Up, it wasnt a movie about dancing, it was about a dancer and her illness. Say what u want about her dancing but she definately has acting chops.
