Gluttony if did give us some clue though. My personal theory is that Subaru gluttony is how he never satisfied with who he was and wanted to be the ideal version of himself, leading him to be obsessed with becoming that person he’s so crave to be rather than just be himself and find the good thing in it. In his backstory, he keep trying to be like his father so much that he keep trying to do many stupid thing just to make people laugh. He keep on going to feed on the idea that he can just be like his father when he can just be part of it that he’s good at and the other part is being himself like his mother in the trial said. In the end, he realized that he couldn’t be like his father when he have no friends left and it leave him unsatisfied with his own existence (hating himself in the process). In the gluttony if. Amnesia Subaru become obsessed with the idea of bringing back the Subaru everyone want. He obsessed with it to the point of murdering the innocence just to bring back someone he thought would solve everything and the [Natsuki Subaru] that everyone want. But In reality, that person those people love is just the version of himself that keep doing his best, never give up and accept help from other where he need. And Subaru in this if story once again fail to realize it. Viewing his previous self as a Superman. He keep pursuing his goal of become someone he thought/knew he couldn’t be. In the end, just like the same way where it end in his past. He will have NO ONE left. Gluttony is the habit/act of consume to the UNHEALTHY excess. Temperance is TAKING all thing in MODERATION. Just like how the sin of greed isn’t just about materialistic but knowledge(Ecidona) or desire(Regulus because Subaru once mention something along the line about his[ stillness of object’s time] being the concept similar to desire itself which I vaguely remember from WN so I might be wrong). The point is that gluttony may come in different form than literally eating food itself. That’s seem to be how each sin play out in Re zero. Also, invisible providence dose have one thing that I don’t see Petelguese have. Similar to Satella, Subaru’ unseen hand can phase through object if he focus his thoughts. We didn’t see petelguese use it in combat at all even in desperate situations. He might be able to do what Subaru does but if he couldn’t, then the phase matter ability is something Subaru manifested himself. So I come up with a theory. What if phase through object ability of Subaru’s unseen hand represents his sloth of wanting an easy way out( Just like how Subaru want to run away in Arc 3. The biggest reason is his self hatred but partly because he can’t find the way to solve the problem). It would make sense that it give him a solution to the lion heart problem in Arc 5. The fact that Subaru only have one hand maybe meant to represent the fact that he want to create his own strength rather than sitting around wishing for some power to be giving to him and save the day(Like a usual Isekai protagonist). Showing how he overcome most of his sloth and that it make him BARELY compatible with sloth witch factor, causing it to be weak in the process. But that’s just a theory. A bulls**t theory I have in my head for a while. If I missed some details then I’m sorry about that. I’m not a re zero expert by any mean. Just trying to decode Arc 6 theme of gluttony vs temperance and came up with it So...... bye.

That’s the same theory I had because of the fact that Subaru was greedy to save everyone and his witch factor of greed helps him with that so I thought that the abilities of an authority that people get are from their intentions of their sin for example if you were greed to wanting everything for yourself then the authority will give you an ability to get you what you wanted but the problem with this theory was the fact that I could not figure out Subaru’s sloth intend but thanks to you I can still believe in that theory plus in arc 6 gluttony dies so there is a possibility that the witch factor of gluttony choose Subaru but I’m not sure about that yet hopefully will see Subaru having the authority of gluttony in arc 7.

Subaru’s authority of gluttony will be called ”Bane of the loli” and will work by boosting the base stats on any nearby loli who’s considered friendly by Subaru. Drawbacks include: 1. Strengthening the wrong friendly loli, making it difficult to use in urban areas lest the nearby lolis accidentally kill innocent civilians. 2. Subaru’s supressed thirst for lolis gets heightend for every second the authority is in use, eventually turning him into a pervert even Ram can’t handle. Yeah, I’ll go do something else.

The shadow garden in arc 3 really is the best place in the story to figure out how Tappei views the sins in the context of witch factors. I don’t remember the line of the top of my head, but the line describing Subaru’s gluttony in that moment really stuck out for me. Those very same lines can also be applied to any of the witches/sin archbishops and still be as accurate for them as they were for Subaru at that moment.

i have a theory, Subaru gluttony is related to great desire for friendship and never let go of his friends, i beleieve that Subaru auhority of gluttony will allow him to contact his dead friend spirits, in the route of Gluttony Subaru was able to see the ghosts of his dead friends, what if his gluttony authority allows Subaru to do something similat to the Avatar, he can summon the spirit of a dead friend for advices and maybe even allow a dead friend spirit to use his body, getting acess to that dead friend skills

What would be the point of that when Subaru is determined not to let any of his friends die? Hardly anyone permadies in Re:Zero due to the nature of RbD. He could use it in loops where people die, but he usually wants to reset soon after people die to make sure he doesn't end up with a save point moving and losing them forever, so he wouldn't really get a chance to use it. If it covered dead people he just knew, rather than friends, then it would be too OP, because that would include Regulus and Elsa (as well as Geuse, but he can already use his one ability pretty much anyway). I could see it being something along those lines where the books of the dead were important in the gluttony IF, but I don't think this would work all that well.

And I think the chances for Subaru getting all the authorities are high because in arc 6 shaula analized Subaru as if she was hoping to see the seven authorities on him, and because in the volume 8 or 9 of re zero Subaru states all his sins that makes him want to be with Satella including gluttony, lust, wrath, etc.

Could his Gluttony Authority be related to his "Visions" in the Gluttony if, Ik that it happened in the main story , but if you notice that amnesia Subaru had Louis's (Rui"s ) Witchfactor which means seeing the died after viewing their memorize could be something other than the books in the library affecting his mind. I suspect that even Daphny had some type of memory ability since the White Whale had the eating names ability. I hope Tappei can make the ability as interesting as Cor Leonis since I don't like the implementation of Invisible Providence .

I don't know about creating witchbeasts bc that would be something that Subaru would find ways to abuse bc he's a huge fan of fighting dirty but perhaps it would be a way to alter witch beasts in the same way Shuala was altered into being a humanoid magic user. It could lead to a possible Shuala restoration and just generally let Subaru do the one thing he's good at, have other people help him. It could also be capped at one witchbeast at a time meaning that Shuala comes back and adds a huge amount of firepower to the gang but he can't make an army of naked onee-sans (which would have been a much better Lust If imo)

I think the sins are interpreted in rather liberal way for example carmilla and her lust for being loved, so if we think of glutony as the desire to consume maybe its gonna to be something more creative along those lines. And also something had to happen with each of the witch factors before subaru could use it, in the case of sloth it was the dona tea and in the case of greed it was purified in the hall of memories so he might obtain witch factors whose authority he cannot activate

[Expullsion] / [Vomiting] - Daphne making Mabeasts and expelling the hunger within her soul onto others via eye contact. and [Satiation] / [Perfect Fullness] - Louis's wish for perfect happiness which could never truly be granted, and Gluttony-Baru not being satisfied with himself and wishing for an absolutely perfect [Natsuki Subaru].

I can't think of any INSATIABLE Desire Canon Subaru has... not just a desire. One which is impossible to satisfy His friends being safe wouldn't count, since that is possible. Maybe his Authority will just be about [Release]. [Release] is the side effect of Gluttony, which all Authority of Gluttonies have one way or another, since it goes hand in hand. Even without an acceptable desire, Subaru should still have a [Release] ability [I changed [Vomiting] and [Expulsion] to [Release] in my head. I think [Release] sounds better.) So maybe Subaru won't have any base ability, and will only have a [Release] ability? That way, anything he TRULY ans DEEPLY want to get rid of within him can be [Released]. Like [Releasing] the Dragon Blood to make a Psuedo Dragon. Maybe.

I think how it`ll go is that, since much of the arcs are about subaru improving from his flaws and his character (hence the sin/if routes, which show what person subaru will becomes if he lets that sin consume him) that that`s one of the main reason his authorities aren`t as strong as that of the previous users. Betelgeuse is anything but slothful for much of arc 3, yet his refusal to change after being rejected by Satella can be seen as the sin of sloth manifesting. So while he is nowhere near as powerful as Sekhmet`s original ability or that of Regulus with greed or even the gluttony trio, he can still manifest a multitude of hands whereas subaru can only summon one (though that may change in the future) Subaru`s greed is stronger than his sloth ability (due to his obsession on getting the happy ending and keeping a lot of his burdens to himself) but that ability again isn`t as strong as in the case of Regulus`s own authority due to Subaru developing as a person during Arc 4`s greed route. Subaru`s ability can be seen as "greedy" due to him taking people`s damage and burden to lessen their own, but it`s still nothing compared to the other potential authorities. I believe that the downside of Subaru becoming a better person is that the authorities become significantly weaker in turn. The sin archbishop are all irredeemable scum, but that`s what makes their abilities so powerful, especially for Regulus and Capella. If it were to come down to it, Subaru`s most powerful authorities will be within Lust (his love for Emilia and Rem alongside being desperate to get the happy ending. I think Arc 7 will focus on the lust if route) Wrath (for resenting a lot of the people that turned his life into a living hell, like Louie, Roswaal and maybe even Pandora.) and most importantly, Pride. (Due to his own personality, as well as being the largest thing about him that hasn`t changed much aside from his love for Emilia. if Subaru were to gain pride, it`ll be significantly stronger than greed or sloth, but it might corrupt who he is and be a potential plot-point for arc 8-9-10.) I also don`t think Subaru has to necessarily be the one to land the final blow on the sin archbishop to gain their authority. He found out Regulus`s ability, but it was Reinhard that finished him off alongside the flood gates, yet the authority still followed him of all people. It could be that, either due to him having Envy`s authority or having more authorities said abilities will gravitate towards him, potentially meaning that, even if Ram killed Lye, gluttony will most likely go to him given proximity. This might mean that if Roy would be killed by the emilia group while Subaru is in the unknown location, it may gravitate to the person who killed Roy or the closest user. In other words, the majority if not all authorities may go to Subaru. In spite of this, I have no idea what any of these authorities abilities will be in the hands of Subaru especially with how different Cor leonis is compared to stillness of an object`s time. It could likely be defensive or support based similar to Cor leonis, albeit more for absorbing damage or being able to ward curses/poisons would be my guess. I apologize for the long as hell message, just something I`ve been noticing since watching and reading Re zero. this is just an idea that I have for how the authorities may work at the hands of Subaru, though I admit this will likely have a lot of issues and this was just my own theory and spin on what`ll happen.

I also think Subaru wont obtain the Gluttony Witch Factor for awhile or at least until the near conclusion of the story. In consideration of the Gluttony IF Story, the Gluttony Witch Gene will most likely allow Subaru to converse with characters he knows and has seen the death of (their soul is likely considered "eaten" after death). Unlike the Gluttony trio, Subaru will be able gather knowledge and advice from that person's soul regardless whether or not they had a healthy relationship with Subaru. This was how I interpreted Subaru's shared craziness with Meili and his craziness in the Gluttony IF story (I think the books of the dead are unrelated).

Well, the Gluttony IF really just relies on Subaru having no memories (because of Louis), and trying to figure out who he used to be using the books of the dead. To me, that means it doesn't really give any clues about what Subaru's authority would be, given he will still have access to books of the dead with or without an authority (everybody will, unless the library gets destroyed by whatever was happening at the end of arc 6). The Gluttony IF more shows Louis having her way, and Subaru becoming basically convinced he is a different person, so just like in the Greed IF Subaru ends up submitting his will to Echidna, in Gluttony IF Louis' plan is the one that gets played out. There's this idea that the IFs all show what happens if Subaru falls to a sin, but while that is the case with Pride and Wrath, Greed and Gluttony more show what happens if he gets played by characters connected to those sins, and begins acting in accordance with their will. This is probably because Subaru's greed isn't something he needs to overcome in the story - it is literally what makes him keep on trying to save everyone and not accept less than ideal outcomes, so he can't really be shown to fall to his own greed, unlike his pride or wrath, and is instead shown to fall under the control of Echidna's different greed. Since he doesn't have any real gluttony of his own, the same is true there, where as a result of Louis' desires, he ends up thinking he needs to take on that approach of effectively stealing people's memories to patch together the person everyone wants him to be. But he doesn't have an authority to eat them with, so he has to use the mechanism of murdering them and reading their books of the dead.

I think Subarus Authority of gluttony is eating souls and creating a new body for them. That would explain why louis has a body and this could be the key to bring back shaula (and maybe Puck) . In one of Jakez123 youtube video about the shadow garden he showed us a screenshot about subaru explaining his own deadly sins. The Description of his sins are strangely similiar to his Authorities. „Sloth for being unable to wipe away her tears of sorrow“ , in arc 6 invisible providence seemed to have activated on its own to fullfill subarus wish wiping away beakos tears, because his Body couldnt „Greed for seeking love , demanding it and taking it all“ that sounds 100% like what cor leonis is capable of „Gluttony for wanting to consume and possess everything“ possess could mean not losing anyone and he can achieve that by eating their souls and creating a new body. With this power he could save anyone who is on the verge of Death. *Sloth, for being unable to away her tears of sorrow* *Lust, for wanting to reunite and become one with each other* *Gluttony, for wanting to consume and possess everything* *Greed, for seeking love, demanding it, and taking it all* *Wrath, at the unreasonableness and absurdity disallowing it.* *Pride, despising everyone and everything except her*

The thing is, whenever a power like that exists in a story, the author always ends up having to come up with a way to nerf it in just about every scene (or just doesn't use it when it would make sense to). This happens in JoJo's and with that priest in Inuyasha that has a similar thing (in just about every fight, those toxic wasps show up that mean he can't use it). I think it's one of those things that seems really cool but is so broken the authors just regret ever having done it, haha!

Juice: bunch of strong tentacle hands if he eats his own hands and stands still, forcing him to be slothful Suboomafu: a single tentacle hand, might have to train with it for it to get stronger like any skill? (dilligence) Regulus: immortality requiring dozens of connections, forcing him to be greedy Subobo: can see his friends with a light beam, can’t gain anything from it personally so can only use it to inform others (charity) If he does get a gluttony authority it’ll probably have something to do with restraint while also being incredibly weak. Same with the other sins. So for gluttony The glutton gang: can gain people’s skills and identities as long as their gluttonous Subaru: can gain people’s experiences but has to restrain himself or something bad will happen (seizure, nosebleed followed by passing out, etc.) Just my interpretation on what’s going on, will more than likely be wrong Ps: I think suburu got the gluttony authority from fusing with amnesia Subaru, killing/consuming Louis in a way (I think that’s what happened there)

I was thinking the same thing on what Subaru's Gluttony authority might be. Another thing to add is that Subaru already has a lot of experience making small creatures for Meili in the form of stuffed animals. Meili would be much more likely to accept Subaru's request to formally join the Emilia camp if he could create custom mini-beasts for her.

That's true. Emilia had to study painting to help her learn how to make more complex things with her ice magic, so it would make sense that Subaru, already being talented at that sort of thing, would be capable of vizualizing the beasts if creating them worked in a similar way. It also isn't an uncommon thing in games to have a class of character that doesn't fight up close but summons things, and with Cor Leonis being such a 'video game support character' skill, it would suit the kind of concepts already in Subaru's 'build' and be the kind of thing Subaru would probably be quite good at managing strategically.

Subaru's gluttony authority can be a deffensife abillity. The reason for this theory becaeuse subaru in arc 6 is revealed to regularly partake self-harm, scratching his arms until he bleeds, biting his lips, etc. . Plus you have the saying a gluttony for pain. My theory for the authority is that if subaru gets hit and activates the authority he takes the physical damage and can split it between mental and physicak damage.

i think vainglory and melancholy are authorities he does have ties with if a bit faint. He isn't tied to the holders(and would hate pandora for being emilia's tormentor) but you could say his embarrassing capital display was a show of vainglory, while all of his previous or later heroic feat ties into the opposite virtue magnanimity(humility to a certain degree although his humility is a combination of self hate and accurate evaluation) while melancholy(which is essentially depression) is something that has been an underlying battle for a while, with the most evident display being the few times were he was tempted to give up completely Though as to what those authorities would do that s anyone's guess.Maybe melancholy help him raise people's spirits

Oh yeah, for the witches and Archbishops the authorities and sin interact differently. For witches, the authority is more or less a manifestation of the sin or something to support the witch's infatuation with said sin, and the witch themself are a manifestation too. For archbishops, it's more like the authority works in such a way that it causes the Archbishop to engage in said sin. Example: - Juice isnt slothful, but since his authority allows him to simply curl up and let his hands do everything, he becomes slothful. - Regulus seems as far removed from greed and "human desires" as possible. But to maintain his apparent immortality, he needs a whole slew of wives. Hence greed - Ley, Roy, and Rui arent gluttons, but their ability to absorb memories makes them gluttonous for more memories. - Its less pronounced for the rest, but Capella isnt lustful, but her authority lets her becomes IG? - Sirius' authority of sharing emotions amplifies her wrath Mean while for the witches - Daphnes authority is an extension of glutton - Echidnas authrootiyy is again, something to help with her sin - Minnerva has wrath against the world, so the authroity is something that supports that. - Sekhmet is slothful, so her authority lets her gt rid of anything that stops her from sleeping - Carmella is well idk. - Typhon's authroity supports her prideful outlook on people. So Subaru doesnt need to be a glutton. MMaybe the authorithy invokes gluttony in him, making it a psychological battle.However this works equally as well for Ram, and is probably more interesting for her. To have to battle against the desire to kill puny humans

Most likely the Authority would have a similar effect on Subaru like Invisible Providence due to him having no capability with the Witch Factor. If that was the case he would automatically be forced to only use it in certain circumstances when he doesn't have another choice. Maybe only his witchbeasts would be loyal to him and while he can create ones approximately as big as the Guiltylaw from Arc 4 he can't create more than one at a time. Thanks to the drawback of having no capability this wouldn't make him overpowered and he would still need Meili to control every other witchbeast not of his own creation.

I think Subarus gluttony authority will manifest as the opposite of the greed factor cor leonis. say for example Emilia, or ram, or whoever has lost a fight and is out of commission but not in mortal danger. if he has deep emotional connection as shown in greed factor he could let himself be possessed by the characters that are out of commission. or let their consciousness go to himself, so they can guide him to needed victory. how could this work? say for example Emilia is out, and while she's out her consciousness goes to Subaru, lets say he can use 10% of her mana and summon maybe a one or 2 ice spears per her possession/guidance.

Love the new video and looking forward to your next one! If we look at the previous two authorities they seem to be "nerfed" versions of their previous owners. As you pointed out Guese accepted the Witch Factor of Sloth and was able to use it by making several hands. Subaru on the other hand doesn't fully accept it as it was described in the light novel. He felt like it was trying to take him over and he had to be careful or he would lose control. For the Authority of Greed instead of becoming an unstoppable murdering machine like Regulus he gets a water downed version. For gluttony I think it'll be the same. Instead of stealing fighting styles & becoming over powered, I think he'll just be able to steal memories. For example, if an assassin fails to kill someone & is caught; Subaru can basically read their memories & figure out who sent them. It's not as over powered as the previous owners, but it's helpful & could be used in the story to convey information to Subaru that would take longer to get. The Author could also make it not as helpful depending on what he wants to do with the story. For example the Witch factor may only be able to get memories from up to one hour before using the ability so he wouldn't know who gave the Assassin orders . Or he can't use the ability on others with Witch Factors like the Sin Arch Priest of Wrath (although that'd be cool if he could). Anyways keep up the Re: Zero videos! I always look forward to them.

I think that how your ability will mainfest is dependent on your desire and if you are compatible with the authority or not. If you are compatible, it will shape it's self so that your greed is satsfied by the authority e.g subaru's greed to shoulder the sin of others is satisfied by the authority But if it's incompatible, Then it will take the shape of the last person that shaped it. E.g authority of sloth took the shape of the witch of sloth's desire but didn't customise when betelguse or subaru got it.

The real issue with figuring out what gluttony would do is if you loosen the interpretation it kind of threatens to cross over into greed's territory. For the reason that Subaru doesn't really seem to have much to do with it and that there are three people running around with it, I don't think he will actually get this one. Like when you think about the Shadow Garden stuff Subaru is kind of collecting the pieces of himself that he has trouble with to make himself whole Gluttony might be seen as the one thing he doesn't need.

They can all be kind of viewed in pretty broad terms, but when you start looking at gluttony as a non-food related desire it begins to overlap with greed or lust, so I think Tappei just kind of played loosely with the themes. None of the 'greed' related characters we see are actually greedy for money or status, which is the usual thing associated with greed - the character most like that would be Anastasia, or possibly even Otto. Daphne is associated with hunger, but not even really with gluttony, more with starvation. The themes aren't done in the same way they have been done before in other shows that use the sins (like FMA or 7DS), which is interesting, but makes it a lot harder to really predict what kind of thing an authority of a given sin might do.

Conceptually, yes, but where Tappei also has to make greed and lust distinct from gluttony, I think he keeps the gluttony stuff eating themed so they don't all seem the same. If he had a character with gluttony for knowledge, that would be the same as Echidna's form of greed, so I don't think he'd use that because it doesn't feel distinct enough.

Authority is supposed to be something related to it's user strong desire. I don't think Subaru has anything like that that is related to mabeasts. And we need somthing related to gluttony. He is never satisfied with how useless, unskillful he is, so something akin to lunar, solar eclipse in a worse form is possible. In this sense he is quite similar to Ley, he is envious of people's talents and skills. He also relies heavily on knowledge/experience he gains from RbD to overcome obstacles, so his authority might be something to absorb targets experience/knowledge(which can also help revealing some mysteries in the future). In the end he has a strong desire to know how to undo Gluttony's authority, so this kind of authority might be useful in getting info out of Roy/Louis. Or something that is related to mana absorb. It might help him to be a more useful contractor to Beako, but in the same time it will be dangerous to use since he could instantly die from mana clogging or something.

Gluttony : To consume everything and possess everything Maybe Tappei here literally means "consume" everything" and "possess everything." So I think Subaru will be able to eat/consume object/names/abilities/concepts/memories and then temporarily(or not) use it to some extent, though there is going to be a penalty depending on what is eaten and how much does it affect other people. In the end he will use it as a sort of "steal" skill. I think that's how he will restore Rem and Shaula's memories. Steal back Rem's from Louise and Shaula's from the watchtower.

This didn't happen when Ley died, or at least they haven't said anything about it. I agree that he could get the ability to spawn Mah-beasts. It'd fit nice with his party dynamic. I think Subaru has been subjected to Gluttony perhaps the most completely of any re:zero character by the end of arc 6. Daphne stared at him with her left eye in the second tea party (arc 4), he's been eaten by multiple mah-beasts including the white rabbit (nearly continously throughout the series), and the entire 6th arc is about being reborn after being eaten. I think he will definitely get a something from Gluttony. I just hope he doesn't develop the madness gaze of Daphne. that power isn't suited for Subaru.

...MCs who's abilities have restrictions to keep them from being broken are totes more interesting, and it helps that any one iteration of an Authority seems to reflect the holder is a nice touch. My view on Sloth and why it's still hands are pretty much yeah, him and Petelgeuse aren't super different in some pretty interesting ways. But... It's kinda hard to see Subaru using Gluttony... It really does seem far from Subaru's characters... thoigh, a mabeast related ability would be pretty interesting. Yo, what if his Gluttony affected mabeasts rather than him? Crap... yeah, you beat me to the punch... but, making Subaru the ultimate support hero with a twist! Hell yeah! It plays ro Subaru's 2 major traits! He's useless by himself, and can pretty much get damn near any one on his side with enough tries!

I'd agree he does have that character defect, but I think it's a stretch to say that that has anything to do with the sin of lust, considering it doesn't just apply to people he is attracted to.

The existence of IFs don't really represent how important the sin is in the story. The Lust IF was the first one he wrote and who knows if he had even had the idea of doing IF routes for all of the others. I don't think the fact it only has a joke for an IF means it is less important than the other sins - Capella is probably the worst opponent of them all.
