It's the safe route. The segment producer of the show clears everything with them in advance and they do rehearse it. Conan knows exactly what is coming too. Jim Jefferies did the same thing with his really old Guns'n Roses bit on Fallon a few weeks ago. Of course most of the time the funniest guests are those going off script but that also has the potential to turn out really boring so show producers rather like to play it safe.
