Nate Diaz catches up with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto after his UFC 244 bout vs. Jorge Masvidal, in which he fell to the now BMF belt holder due to a doctor’s stoppage after cutting his eye. Diaz tells Okamoto that he fought too early after his August 17th bout vs. Anthony Pettis where he initially was cut above the eye. He goes on to say that he didn’t turn down the fight vs. Masvidal because it’s exactly the opportunity he’s been asking for and because he’s made such a name for himself in the UFC he felt like he was needed to sell the PPV. He then shares what’s next for him, looking to take a few months to let his eye heal and then jump back into camp to face Jorge Masvidal again.

@@georget9640Nate wasnt losing enough blood for it to be significant. Maybe if the fight was ten five minute rounds your point would have some validity. UFC have different doctors overseeing fights. They are going to have differing opinions on when a cut is bad enough to stop a fight. This time the doctor dropped the ball. Dominick cruz snuck a video of the doctor and you can see the look on the docs face. He knew how bad he just fucked up.

I have seen incredible high levels of toughness in the fighters coming from Nick Diaz team. Yancy, shields, Melendez , kron, Nate. But Nick Diaz was unbreakable. He wouldn't even move with the craziest of body shots. He would eat hard punches. He was deadly with his volume punching.

@maxxxmodelz4061

He's definitely one of the top 3 toughest. No question. He took a BEATING last night by a guy who literally murdered his last two high level opponents. Masvidal will be the next champion, and that's when they should give Nate the rematch. It will draw more money, and there will be some real gold at stake. Plus it gives Nate more time to recover from this beating. He only had two months between fights here, and he was cut bad in the last fight too.
@maxxxmodelz4061
@maxxxmodelz4061 4 жыл бұрын
@@subzero835 Are you saying he isn't? You're judging his underperformance in UFC these last two outings, but the guy was undefeated in MMA before that, and is about as high level a grappler as ever stepped foot in the octagon. So yeah, he was high level. Look, if Diaz got caught with that same knee Askren took, he might be laid out first round too.
@maxxxmodelz4061
@maxxxmodelz4061 4 жыл бұрын
@@subzero835 I think the "exposing" factor in UFC comes mainly from the fact of the type of media and demands required of the fighters who come here. It's another level of media that some fighters need time to adjust. I agree with you that there were other fighters who were just not what they were said to be, but there are cases where fighters are just pushed too soon and too fast. Ben was retired before he came to the UFC, and then thrown right into the top 5. He wasn't given any time at all to adjust to the format, media, spotlight, etc. It's not his lack of skill, it's just he's fighting through ring rust on the largest stage and against the highest level opponents.

Honestly, maybe I'm remembering wrong, but at the end of 1 and 2, I swear Jorge came back to his corner smiling. At the end of the 3rd, he seemed like he was getting winded. He definitely wasn't smiling. Jorge was indeed butchering Nate in the first few rounds, but 4 & 5 were always going to be Nate's best chance to win. I like both guys, was pulling for Nate, but I figured I wouldn't have hated a Jorge win. NYSAC somehow found a way to make the craziest fight of the year a disappointment.
