MMA and boxing are decided VERY differently when it comes to TKO's. Boxing is 90%head shots, mma can be a multitude of things. Therefore in boxing if a fighter can no longer defend himself and the opponent is just measuring punches the ref will end it. These are the Nevada State boxing rules. Conner knew this and can't expect the ref to make an exception just for this fight. It was a sanctioned bout. Boxing rules. If the ref let the fight continue and Conner got seriously injured the MMA fans would be upset at the ref. Fights have been stopped for less. It's boxing not a rocky movie.

warnutztheloser Pretty much how they do it in the UFC. Especially for a title fight? The ref better see a close to dead person on the ground before they even think about ending the fight early. That's how mma culture is like at least. As an mma fan, i was watching one of the title fights and the same thing happenned. Person wasn't in the corner, just to the side, getting hit but just slightly wobbly, kind of like mcgregor. And when the ref came in and stopped it, was when I learned that that's how it is in boxing culture. You hear right after the fight he was asked if he didnt think the ref was trying to protect him. The face and reaction mcgregor gives to the ref is pretty much the face of every mma fan or watcher out there. Like dam. He's ACTUALLY been on the floor and bloodied, this aint shit to him.

Trey My comment wasn't about that. My comment is that REGARDLESS of what happens, an early stoppage is a nononononono in the UFC. If you're a ref and you call someone like that who's just wobbly, but is still on their own two feet, your ass is gonna get killed by the community. That's just the culture. Especially for a title fight? No way. One of the fights before the main was also another title fight, same shit happens with a different ref. So all this tells me is that stoppages and TKO's are different in boxing and mma. In my opinion, these people are already willing to participate professionally in a combat sport. I don't think any of these fighters have a problem with going down. Watch UFC fights. People are getting their faces cut by elbows and the whole canvas can be completely bloody, but the fight ain't stopping.

I get the feeling that there are a LOT of bandwagon jumpers here. I've got nothing against McGregor, and I know he would annihilate Mayweather in the Octagon, but this is boxing here. Anybody worth their salt would know that: -Mayweather has years of experience under his belt, and is a deadly outboxer, and even though McGregor learned how to box, that won't stop Mayweather from improvising. -The TKO called by the ref isn't about how much pain McGregor is in, it is about being able to defend yourself, and McGregor could not defend himself against Mayweather's onslaught of blows, thus the match was called. If you want to cheer for McGregor, go ahead, but at least act rational. McGregor is stronger, but that doesn't mean he will win, and who you want to win won't always have the proper skill, strategy, or dominance in the fight. I don't want to come off as ignorant or upset. In fact, I am neither because it was blatantly obvious Mayweather would win from the start, and all my predictions were true.

Don't get confused, I didn't mention McGregor's other bold claims that never happened like his 4th round knockout etc. He couldn't knock out Floyd when he had plenty of energy and gassed out and boxing isn't like MMA where he can move around a lot to stall and gather energy back if needed. All I was saying though was lots of people said McGregor wouldn't even land a punch, wouldn't make it a round or 2 but he lasted through to the 10th round and he is not a boxer so for that alone it should be impressive given that he was fighting someone considered by many to be the best boxer of all time, especially the best defensive boxer but as I said before a lot of people thought Mayweather would win, just how good or bad of a fight it would be was unknown. McGregor put on a much better show than many expect is really all I was saying so he deserves credit for that and if he's smart he'll stick to the UFC now where he dominates most of the fights and avoid boxing in the future.
