Music has gifted me so many blessings... This past Thursday, Jan 30th, 2025 I was able to participate in the FireAid concert at The Intuit Dome, backing up Tate McRae & Jellyroll. It was a truly special and meaningful night. Yesterday, I was manning the drumset chair for the 67th Annual Grammy Premiere show (This video was the show opener), and as I write now, I've just finished editing this video while awaiting a flight at LAX. I am en route to New Orleans to play in the house band for the NFL Honors Awards Ceremony. I take nothing for granted and consider myself so fortunate to be able to contribute to such incredible events.
This performance features Yolanda Adams, Wayne Brady, Deborah Cox, Scott Hoying, Angelique Kidjo and Taj Mahal performing with the Grammy Premiere Show band under the direction of Musical Director, Cheche Alara.
Random sidenote... I think this might be the longest "drum cam" I've posted... I wanted to not only include the "show opener" performance, but also the next walk-on to illustrate the quickness of some of the turn-arounds... -and yes, on the upstroke for the very last hit of the tune, I hit the underside of my primary crash, knocking the stick out of my hand... lol... See... I make mistakes all the time!
As per usual, I'm just playing the groove the best way I know how... I hope you enjoy! :)
I am available for touring, recording, clinics and private lessons. If interested, head over to natemorton.com.

No coinci"dance" this video found me. im bout to hit the road for few shows this week and have been struggling with the often times rabbit hole of being a "pro" drummer. been at this for 30 yrs n counting and it can be a struggle true but seeing the above i am reminded that if you aint got passion n spirit bhind what u do ...then get out the way . lol . yo to each they own, but this performance brought it home for me. cant thank u nuff for the inspiration n motivation to always stay true to the divine essence that guides you or at least thats what i got. thanx again n keep shining king! bless you. bless up

In the live broadcast you you hear an upstruck ghost note “ting” on the crash in perfect time, then stick goes flying. Then the camera (finally) goes to Nate as he reaches for back up stick, while crashing with right hand. . I truly believe the observer effect of the Director calling for “Drum camera ready” “Take drum camera” to Technical Director sent a little energy toward Nate and thus the dis-traction. It’s all spiritual and Nate sure knows how to tap in. Phenomenal player!

5:09 even that little mistake was on time. Sounds like it was on the 2nd 16th note of the 4th pulse. Like 1 - - - 2 - - - 3 - - - 4 x - - BAM! Anyway, Nate it would be really cool if you could show how this kind of events are prepared. Are there rehearsals beforehand? or maybe they send you the music sheets and you all get together on the day of the event and just pull it off? Is there room for improvisation? I don't know, but that would be so interesting to see and get your thoughts about the whole process. Thank you for the awesome videos.
