Loved this. The whole episode felt like Bear huffing and puffing, trying to sell the intensity, followed by Alex strolling by calmly eating an apple and looking not the faintest bit stressed, other than the skydive in, which definitely got to him for once.

@@AMM1998 simul-rap is honestly a pretty common technique for elite climbers. Unfortunately, it's also pretty dangerous, as the recent death of Brad Gobright demonstrates. It's easy to rap off the end of the rope, and sadly, a lot of elite, every-day type climbers sort of lose the habit of tying safety knots.

Why is almost everything they say fake? It's cool enough to just do a reppel. Why not just show how they actually did it. @@khachieu1993 the problem with that is that a cloth sock wouldn't actually do anything to protect the rope. I have experience working at height and that sock would be toast in a matter of seconds. There is a real reason why they used proper rope protection and attachment. I feel it's truly irresponsible to pretend they did it in a very unsafe way.

The fact I doubt a counterbalance rappel has ever been used by any 'special forces' on the planet is one thing, and it got one of Alex's best friends killed late last year is another, but the demonstration/promotion of it like this is probably even worse. It's all great fun until someone kills themselves emulating a hero (Alex if you're a climber or Bear if you're an idiot). Yes 'it's just TV', but I really feel this is overstepping the mark, and the safety team should hang their heads in shame, especially as many of them are mountain guides (I guess $$$$$ always trumps good judgement). UNQUOTE Grylls I can understand, but why Alex Honnold would lend his name to something like this, I have no idea!

After I heard Gobright passed in a simuli rappel I looked them up and basically told myself I am never ever going to think of attempting one, unless our lives depend on it, and I can't ever imagine myself in that sort of situation But yeah this is promoting a dangerous technique and not even demonstrating it properly , I thought Alex would at least take a stand against it.

@@lararoche1977 They'll send some young production assistant back up the rope to get it lol...You dont have to counter balance rappel to get rope back either. Make a bite, overhand it with a loop hanging out, get it around the wire and pass the other end of the rope through the loop...Done and very secure...Just make sure you only rappel off of the one side and not the other. One side for rappeling and a quick tug on the non rappel side and you have your rope back
