I disagree to a certain extent. I'm exceptional at quite a few things, but have sadly never enjoyed any of them enough to become obsessed and make them the center of my life. I envy people who can identify that one thing to obsess over that gives them limitless joy and purpose.

@@cobbler88 He means exceptional in a different way than you. This guy is exceptional because he is THE BEST (most would argue). @@parker4025 him being "THE BEST" is very arguable honestly, most people now would say Adam Ondra is the best climber in the world right now based on sport climbing, bouldering, and big wall climbs that he’s done so far. Alex would be probably considered the best free soloer but not "the best".

This man literally just chose one random day not to eat meat anymore. Has been Vegetarian for years now on ethical reasons (which is the only logical reason to give up meat in my opinion). Gives 33% of his income to Charity, a nonprofit he created himself. Lived out of a van, by choice, for years while writing books and doing talks around the country to inspire others. Has Aspergers, and has mastered the art of public speaking. Is the only living human being to Free-Solo El Capitan or the like. Which is 1,000 meters, and did it in less than 4 hours. Later that same day he went hang-gliding. Meanwhile, I struggle to get out of bed somedays. Really gives you a contrast of people in this world. I'm just glad there are people like him out there that inspire people like me to continue getting out of bed everyday.

Hang-boarding, as in strength excercise. Not hang-gliding. And on the asperger's thing, I don't think he's gotten that diagnosed. His mom said in the film that she believes his late father had aspergers and she can see similarities in Alex's behaviour, but not more than that. @@MrElpajita That can't be one's priority in life because there is no end to materialistic needs, by definition it means an excessive need of possessions which means at no point in that person's life would there be a a sense of self-worth or accomplishment as they never would have satisfied themselves to the point of being done or successful. This also means to achieve that materialistic need that person will be working and feeling miserable everyday about it as their priority is not to live their life happy but to live a life to keep possessing things as much as they can, a never ending cycle.

at 01:02 he mentions a project he's trying. He actually managed to send it and it was his first of the grade, 9a(5.14d). Breaking into the 9's is a massively difficult thing to do and is especially impressive for a big wall climber like alex. If anybody wants a reference point, his free solo of el cap via freerider has a grade of 5.12d/5.13a. The new route he sent called arrested development is graded 5.14d.
