All these people are truly brilliant at their jobs👏 They deserve big praise, because it's absolutely true that they can tell stories with a single picture.

I'm not a photographer, I'm a writer, but I'm sure I will be working a whole lot with photographers when I'm brainstorming my documentary scripts. So this is purely inspiring.

Many of us can only be behind-the-camera _one day a week._ This seems to apply to _so many_ photography genres, not just high-end advertising and commercial photography, where shoots can be complicated and sophisticated with a whole team of people involved, such as the client, an art director, the advertising agency, etc. There is so much post-production, editing, invoicing, marketing, phone calls, finding new clients, responding to queries, gear repairs, researching stories or travel plans, updating your website and/or social media accounts, etc, etc... all of which prevents us from truly maximizing our time in the field. That scenario has certainly happened to me, but if there are other working photographers reading this, I hope you aren't as limited as I sometimes feel in terms of the time I can give to creating new images in new places!

I worked in the National Geographic photo labs from 1974 - 77 in the golden age of Kodachrome and met some of the staff photographers. The shops that made all the custom gear and repaired the cameras was also on the 2nd floor of the 17th street HQ building and saw some of pack-outs they did for extended third world assignments. I once asked one of the senior photo editors what qualities they looked in photographers and the answer was that thousands of photographers were as technically competent as but very few were good story tellers. The non-staff photographers got their first assignments by submitting unique story ideas.

There is so much more to the art of photography than pixel peepers. These artists are about capturing the human condition and the majestic world, thats their objective. Not whether the image is sharp in the corners.
