It's kind of a long story involving musical "politics" among other things during Sax's lifetime. It also didn't help that the instrument was picked up by jazz and was played a way that was considered vulgar for many decades. It's also tricky to write for it because an orchestra may not have a saxophone section and you kind of have to be an established composer before a conductor is likely to make that kind of exception for you. All this is a real shame because they are very untapped colour in the orchestra and one of the most versatile groups of instruments. The only limitation is that they don't have an enormous range, but they are not alone in that regard.
@Pulsonar Жыл бұрын
I know nothing about orchestral conducting, but I’ve seen and heard quite a number of performances from many orchestral conductors, male and female. None have caught my eye as much as this woman, this is the first time I’ve seen and heard a conductor appear like a musician using the whole orchestra like one huge musical instrument.
