When using a collective noun, it's in the singular when referring to an entity and plural when referring to an individual object. So, famous sport team entities are Storm, Jazz, Heat, Magic, Avalanche etc. With some of them, the noun can be pluralised (storms, avalanches) but as a collective noun for team identification, you don't use plural, because they're not an individual object, they're an entity. All other mascots are individual object nouns made plural so as to describe the collective group: Bulldogs, Panthers, Bears, Jets etc.

The Eels are a good team - Melbourne Storm (my team) played them in round 21 and beat them 32-14. However, The eels had more possession and better position. The storm only had a couple of minutes in their red zone. Most of the Storms tries were long range. I knew that the eels would trouble all the teams they had yet to play.

I'm absolutely sick to death of the constant dribble about the GF Brisbane 'should have won'. If they were meant to win it they would have. End of story. The way they have played this year is evidence that they just aren't/weren't good enough. Penrith were and are good enough. Also, I've loved seeing this with Hindy.
