I built one in the early 90's with 18 hp onan engine. Great flying airplane but not enough engine. empty weight on mine was about 240. I put about 200 hrs on mine before selling it. love the airplane could not do the under power, high density altitude days was slow climbing. I do miss it. Someone needs to come up with a better engine to put on this great airplane. thanks for sharing

I think a large part of your problem is that warp drive prop. It’s not an airfoil for a fast airplane. They are grate for ultra lights. I have fixed many of them by reshaping the airfoil and twist. A fella in Canada with a direct drive Subaru Q2 let me fix his and he picked up over 30 mph and 700 ft/mn rate of climb.

This a great little aircraft which is easy to build and easy to fly. I purchased my kit in 1978 and completed it in 1980. I flew the bird out to San Diego from Austin, TX in 1982. It took appx 10 hours. It was wonderful weather and I met lots of neat people along the way and the airplane performed flawlessly . I sold the airplane to a gentleman in 1983 and moved back to Austin during that same time period. I have not seen the airplane nor have I heard of the gentleman who purchased it. Does it still exist? The tail number was N1388K. If anyone knows the whereabouts of this little plane, please advise. Nathan did a great job!!!

I don’t know if your airplane but it sounds like it was a good one! Thanks for watching

You can easily search the registration number on the FAA’s website, if no owner has ever changed it. Good luck. www.faa.gov

It was deregistered in 2013. Last action was 1989. Built by Bobby Ballard.

Got a Q1 i need to let go. Currently has Onan 18hp with 20 hp heads. Got a Rotax 447 with dual carbs to swap. "FAST LITTLE AIRPLANE" CADed an engine mount for it.

Is the airflow with the cowl on creating a vacuum? From what I see, the airflow isn't directed into the carburetors. Also with the spinner on there, there is no air directed into the engine compartment. The two holes in the side of the cowl, to me must be mimicking blowing on top of a bottle. it creates a vacuum thus starving the engine of air so you have to run it lean and loss of power hard stars.

His power problem sounds like an air feeding problem

I'm GLAD I came across this channel!! I bought a Quickie1 years ago, almost done installing a Subaru/Robin EH72efi 28hp..its a V-twin, with a cog belt redrive coupled with a 42" Power Fin "E" Propeller. Built a cowling for it but looks like crap, was hoping to find someone to build me one..no luck so far. Would love to talk to Nathan, anybody know how to get in touch with him?

Where you at? I live in Austin, TX and would love to help you build a cowling.

@@cluelessbeekeeping1322 I sure appreciate the offer, if I was closer I'd definitely take you up on that offer, but unfortunately I'm up in BC Canada, just seems like there's not many companies interested in this sorta thing...thanks again.

@@TrustJesus100 Oh well... I love: - carving - style - airplanes - feebleglass stuff (or carbon) Making a cowling would combine all of the above! I have an N3 Pup and was pondering to maybe make a ~fancy schmancy cowling for it (to make it look like a Lopresti Comanche cowling/intake)... I know, on an N3 Pup...but, meh, why not.

@@cluelessbeekeeping1322 sounds like I'm missing out. I do love working with my hands, I am a licensed machinist but fiberglass isnt anywhere near machining so im kinda stuck...just maybe if I get time next year I'll giver another try.

@@TrustJesus100 Oh man...I'm totally jealous...looking for a job too, I've been trying to (one of the places) get a job with a machine shop. I don't know (sorta) anything about it aside from loving all things milled! Cool man! Buy some modeling clay and start playing with it...(but also make a balsa model, or a few). Look what looks good...it will motivate you!

Is the canard and wing shape and size on the Quickie One the same as a Q-200? (Assuming both have a LS1 canard).

For anyone who is interested, I just posted a video on KZbin of the Quickie in action. In it you can hear the RPM wind up as speed increases. Link is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4jTf2tjgbN_frs

What plane do you ENJOY FLYING? Long EZ? Or a conventional plane? My guess is you want to sell this or have sold it already. I agree a standard VW engine like the Revmaster made in Hisperia putting out 85hp would be a great pick. The $10,000 price is expensive. If you found a 2nd hand with low time would be cheaper. They are direct drive and single floatless slide Carburetor.

A lot of people asked about the engine, but no one mentioned putting a Wankel in it. Has he ever considered that? The 1 cylinder is ~180 lbs and ~150 hp. I've seen the 2 seater Dragonfly version of the quickie with that engine and they said it was good for it.
@TheJustinJ2 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you realize just how small and light these things are. They are almost all extinct now and rate to see how tiny they are. Its smaller and lighter than a typical off-road dirt bike. That airframe only needs 16-18hp to fly. 22-25hp to have reasonable climb performance. And anything near 50hp is going to yank it around like an RC model. If you put 150hp in it, it will disintegrate, and you will die.
