Wow, I've just stumbled upon this video and this is amazing, very impressed with your efforts! Oddly enough I watched another video today by the name of "Distributed Feather-Inspired Flow Control" where a research group were adding flexible flaps on the upper surface of wings as an analog of feathers so they flex upward into the airstream at high angles of attack. Apparently this increases lift at high angles of attack and reduces certain types of drag too. This might be something you can try on a design that you already understand the performance of so you can see if there's a beneficial effect. Subscribed!

After you performed the modification on the wiper pin for duel mode, is the duel mode servo needed? I love your work! I am eagerly awaiting part 2!

It still requires the dual mode servo because it has a special pot that can continuously rotate. You could get around this by moving the pot to the wing hinge. Great question!

i'd quite like to make an ornithopter now. i noticed you stopped selling parts, would you maybe release the design files or technical drawings needed to manufacture the parts for a crossbow 2?

Would it help an ornithopter to have elastic pulling the wings down so that the motor works a little harder on the up stroke but has more power on the down stroke?

Some people have done this. When flying at low throttle it helps complete the downstroke more easily, so the upstroke and downstroke have closer to the same duration. I don't know if it improves the overall efficiency or performance. The rubber band or spring and any related hardware will add some weight, it may increase the friction in the mechanism, and it does not give back all of the energy that is put into it.

I think a regular servo could also work for this with the potentiometer on the shoulder, if the servo is commanded to rotate past the angle which the potentiometer will read.

Wow I didn't realize that! And I know there are other parts in the Bible where it says Jesus was the voice of God or other things like that. If people disagree about whether Jesus was God, I don't think that matters as we can agree that his teachings are worthy of being followed.
