there is a glitch you can do where you can explore the bottom of maple treeway by slowly braking and falling off the edge, and bypassing the out of bounds plain, and you can actually explore a good portion of it too

I’m fascinated by things like this, but one of the best games with these kinds of robust backgrounds is Splatoon. One of the backgrounds has an entire fleshed out city with moving cars that you can only see the tops of the buildings in-game.

Honestly, I can't even put into words how amazingly detailed all of these tracks are, like they really make you feel like you're just racing on a tiny part of land, but they really went above and beyond, like I don't even know if you can see that sign in baby park that says how much you have to pay to get something, or the cars and toad houses in N64 rainbow road, or the character houses in mario kart stadium. I also know that Mute city has like, an entirely different F-Zero track in the background, a desert called fire field, and I don't even think it's that noticeable. It's absolutely nuts.

Not only can you not access them, you can't even SEE a lot of that stuff! There's a level of detail there that they must have known wouldn't be seen by 99.9% of players since a lot of those small additions would surely be smaller than a pixel from track height. I once rode Space Mountain at Disney World and the lights were on for some reason instead of everything being pitch black. It was weird because you could see everything you're normally not supposed to be able to see. This kind of reminds me of that.
