I am a U.S. Marine Corps Combat Veteran. I served 2002-2010. In 2004-2005, I was in Iraq! My second deployment. I fondly remember menu item number 1. It was pretty decent, when fresh! The milkshake was never all that good..lol! Keep up the great work!

If you get an old heater that seems weak , dump some salt in . Most times that will get it heating .

You should send what was left over to Iron Gut Steve1989. That guy has eaten so many bad MRE's that his insides are preserved. Personally I wouldn't have tasted the clumpy stuff. It usually goes if the Tasters Choice is moldy the rest of the meal is good. If the Tasters Choice is good the meal was bad. That was the rule I lived by when I received older rations. You are a brave man is what I have to say.

Here's a quick tip: If you add a pinch or two of salt to your FRH before adding the water, it re-energizes that FRH. Try it.

Yup turbocharges it, can also use the hydrogen to heat water as well if you route it to a tube with a metal tip with a bit of duct tape. 😂

It was in a combat environment, I had it in 2003, when they first started adding the shakes into them. It was better when brand new, but the beans in yours probably didn't age well, as they were the best part.

How does a dairy shake develop salmonella with age? It would have to have it when it was packaged, which would make soldiers ill no matter how fresh it was. It can and does go sour though.

The best m r e I got was back in the early 90,s. Beef chunks with gravy. Add 1 can of vegetable soup and heat it up over a sterno stove in your canteen cup. When I went to n t c I went prepared.

Now they can make decent MREs by cooking up food normally and chucking it through an E beam irradiator. Lots more effective than simply using the heat method alone.

USAF Security Forces 2006-2016. Been all over the world and all across the US including hawaii and alaska. Best decision i ever made. But leaving halfway to retirement was the biggest mistake of my life. I have a soft spot in my heart for MRE's. Every one else in my unit hated them (spoiled airmen). But i could have lived off of those things. These vids make me sad now.

I always liked the old MCI's back in the day. The only truly bad one was the ham and lima beans. That one was pretty bad. Otherwise, fairly decent, and the chocolate circles were quite tasty.

Who cooks MREs in the field? They get stripped down and repackaged. The heaters get left behind.
