For the first time ever, I got my hands on a Chinese MRE! I have plenty of USA MREs of course, so prepare for a showdown between China and USA MREs!

Probably something that affects the calorie count is that I would assume the average Chinese soldier has a lighter body mass (shorter). Personally I would prefer the Chinese MRE as the amount of sugar in the US one would inflate the calorie count and be not as sustaining between meals. While the quail eggs, pickle, rice, chicken, beef, soup would have a higher protein content and therefore higher nutritional value and staving off hunger between next meal. The only thing I preferred on the US MRE is the choice of drink and coffee and gum!! .... but hey, I wasn't raised on the US 'peanut butter and jelly'... I MUCH prefer the Chinese MRE options :) Great video as usual :)

Have you had the chinese options? No? Then why do you prefer them? You probably haven't even had the things that came in the chinese MRE and you chose that because you don't think for yourself and you are virtue signaling according to what you have been propagandized to do. Terrible comment as usual.

Do we know that the Chinese only get three of these a day and that's it? What if they get additional snacks and whatever on the side to supplement their mealtimes? What if they get four of these? From a food quality and macro perspective per calorie, I'm siding with the Chinese MRE here. It's not all overly processed carb sources beyond recognition from its raw form, be it sugar or flour. Skittles and sugary jams isn't exactly my idea of food for a soldier. Why not add a few spoons of animal fats and some protein to the main instead? It takes up less space and has a lot more calories and nutritious quality to it. Lard, duck fat and butter needn't be too expensive either. 🤷🏻

Look up BMI by country. On Wikipedia China is listed as 143rd, but I wouldn’t trust those stats. There are very few overweight people in socialist countries. I think it’s mostly a mentality of the CCP to provide their soldiers with the bare minimum to survive, but I’m sure average BMI has something to do with it.
@TOM-C.
@TOM-C. 13 күн бұрын
@@Sniperboy5551 Looked up average weight, and for a Chinese man it's 153.4. For the American man it's 199.8 which is 46 pounds heavier. If true, that would explain the difference in calories. There's multiple sites listing different numbers, but they're all within a few pounds of one another. Yeah, the CCP is literally insane! They're doing everything in their power it would seem to tick off those who would give them success. To not treat your soldiers like valuable assets is just plain stupid! 👍✌🗽

"...Fortune cookies are often served as a dessert in Chinese restaurants in the United States, Canada, Australia, and other countries, but they are not Chinese in origin. The exact origin of fortune cookies is unclear, though various immigrant groups in California claim to have popularized them in the early 20th century. They most likely originated from cookies made by Japanese immigrants to the United States in the late 19th or early 20th century. The Japanese version did not have the Chinese lucky numbers and were eaten with tea... ...As far back as the 19th century, a cookie very similar in appearance to the modern fortune cookie was made in Kyoto, Japan, and there is a Japanese temple tradition of random fortunes, called omikuji. The Japanese version of the cookie differs in several ways: they are a little bit larger; are made of darker dough; and their batter contains sesame and miso rather than vanilla and butter. They contain a fortune; however, the small slip of paper was wedged into the bend of the cookie rather than placed inside the hollow portion. This kind of cookie is called tsujiura senbei (辻占煎餅) and is still sold in some regions of Japan..."

I’m pretty sure anything you buy from the store on a military installation is tax-free, so cigarettes and matches are probably cheap enough for them to justify leaving them out in an economic sense. I lost about 25lbs during my 5 month deployment to Desert Storm. At least 90% of my meals were MRE's. I wasn't fat to begin with (6'5", 210lbs), and I wasn't a combat arms guy so I wasn't running around and clearing trenches, but I was with the 1st ID and we were forward deployed and very active . The fast pace of movement and the preparations and diligence required in a combat zone are extreme. I can't imagine how anyone in that situation could function for very long on a < 2000 calorie diet.

I'd take the Chinese one at least it looks like real food. Three boiled eggs, egg soup, topped rice, spicy sauce. Sounds like something I'd Uber. No contest the Chinese wins for me in this. The sugar on that US MRE laid out on that tray is so unappealing to me. Sure it has more calories but its from sugar so that means it will dissipate faster from the body. Also why they are giving troops food like they are little kids? That won't fill me up then probably go on a glycemic crash from all the sugar. Utter disrespect.
@MeAncient
@MeAncient 12 күн бұрын
The Chinese MRE was really tasty. However, there are not enough calories to stay active as required in the field at the body weight and overall size of US troops. That may be the big difference......Chinese troops may be smaller in stature so they don't need as many calories per day. I do agree about the quality of food in the US MRE as being lots of sugar, but that is what most Americans eat and therefore what they want in their MREs. TFW, Jalide.

The US MRE is for energy why all the sugar you will need that energy while the Chinese does look more healthy there just isn't no calories or energy. There is no way your hiking 40 miles a day living on that low of calories. Need sugar or carb sugar for energy that's what they have adapted the American body 2 run on.

egg drop soup isn't a breakfast food it is just a soup which is common. So if it makes you think that it is breakfast then clearly you don't know what you are talking about and shouldnt be talking.

I think a Chinese soldier would consider it a good meal but to me I would choose the American, starting with the calories and ending in the more pratical use of the meal, with little "parts" I could eat on the go, in the Chinese I guess you could eat the beef and the cucumbers on the go, but it would be a meal to sit down, heat the beef, the rice, water for the soup. Not a question of being good or bad, but just having more calories and more ways to decide how to eat it...

You don't heat the beef, it is meant to be eaten cold. You should stop thinking and actually go and learn something. That isn't how things are done there. There is a main that will go with the rice and the rest are side dishes. Why are there a bunch of people that know nothing about china or chinese food pretending like they know what is going on?
@MeAncient
@MeAncient 10 күн бұрын
@@thomgizziz Thom, interesting comment, "You should stop thinking and actually go and learn something." I believe the later requires the former. Just sayin'. I believe, based on what was in the MRE and what the packaging said once it was translated, that the main WAS the rice with chicken. We opened the MRE from China to compare it with another one. Take it easy, man. Or better still, start publishing your own videos and show us 'bunch of people' how it's done! TFW!

to me it seems like the Chinese MRE is something that you would pretty much eat all in one sitting versus the US MRE you have your main entree, a side and then some snackage to hold you until the next meal time.

Chinese have a concept I've never seen before, an entire ration made of parts to complete a whole meal. Separately they meh but together are amazing (omitting the soup) but I think the idea is good, a great moral booster. Yes, the calories are nothing and there no snack or a sugar boost (Peanut butter and a candy a must in my opinion) but otherwise Ingenius. A "homecooked" meal as a ration, great moral boost idea. sure, its low calorie but heck Napoleon quoted that and army marches on its stomach. no lie those quail eggs and the soup I love to try myself
@thomgizziz
@thomgizziz 10 күн бұрын
No those are side dishes and you have to carry rice making the meal bigger. That doesn't look home cooked and looks like a nightmare to try and eat during a war. There is a reason why it the US have MREs as in meals READY to eat not meals you have to do a bunch of BS to eat.

Yeah the rice is sorta meant to be bland. Usually in a lot of Asian cusines you'll have a big bit of carbs (rice or flat breads) and little accompaniments like the pickled vegetables, meats and so on to add flavour to it.

@@parabreed I don't think I'd like peanut butter with any other flavor of jelly. I believe ours are made with Concord grapes.
