Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Mizzou all have a loss to an unranked team. Would BYU even be ranked if it did? Or if it had 2 losses, like Bama, Ole Miss, LSU, Oregon, Colorado, or Illinois? NOPE. At least Clemson's loss is a respectable one to Georgia. Mizzou DIDN'T EVEN SCORE A POINT against 2-loss, lost to Vandy Alabama. Miami, Penn State, Ohio State barely have a couple ranked wins between them. No business being above 12 in my opinion. I think Clemson is a good team, but it's also hard to argue their record. I think BYU belongs at #6 or higher.

It also has more teams with losing records than any of the power 4 conferences. I’d say that means those conferences are more competitive than the big 12 if that’s the case.

How so? Here are the facts. The most competitive conference is the SEC....by far The SEC has 7 teams legitimately in contention for a CFP slot. The SEC has UGA..UT...Bama...Tennessee...A&M...LSU...Ole Miss The ACC is 2nd in terms of competitiveness. They have the most in-conference 1 score games. The B10, ACC both have 4 teams each in contention for their respective Championship Game. ACC has Clemson...Miami...Pitt....SMU B10 has Oregon...PennSt...OSU...Indiana The B12 championship game is essentially locked in with BYU and the winner of the KSU/ISU game at the end of the season. All non SEC conferences have a STEEP drop off after their 4 team. - VT, TCU & Illinois are the 5th place teams in their respective conferences. #FactsOverFandom

The turnovers and punt return touchdown were as much true takeaways (generated by BYU defensive discipline and individual hustle) than by K State miscues. It is amazing that in its two games against highly efficient and ranked offenses (SMU and K-State) in the early season, BYU held both to no touchdowns.

BYU was NOT an underdog to UCF. The system is a bit crazy, obviously. Thank you, bro, for giving John Kurtz a voice in the Southeast region. John: Love ya, man. And respect everything you said there. A few criticisms against the takes on my Cougars (not that your summation wasn't very fair for a well-informed outsider speaking in behalf of the whole of the conf): (1) Retzlaff & his ceiling is better than what you're selling there. And that's something I wouldn't have said three weeks ago. NOT as a big-arm QB, nor as a dual-threat -- but as an all-purpose dawg he's got a championship QB in him. The dude is very smart, but also a born risk-taker. His brains are really starting to get a firm hold on the risk-engine. (2) Our RB duo of Martin & Ropati was not there for most of our win run. They've only been healthy & together the last two weeks. Those guys will be a force over the next month here -- that BYU has not had at their disposal yet. (They gave us only a glimpse against UCF.) (3) We will also see Bohanon worked in as a pretty heavy-usage wildcat over the next month, too. (Expect to see him unrolled first in RES (Salt Lake City).)

BYU -was- an underdog. Vegas set BYU as a one-point favorite and then money came pouring in on UCF to where the line moved to favor them by 2.5 points. But Vegas has always shorted BYU for two reasons. One, there are people who are emotionally vested in BYU doing poorly for whatever reason. It used to be religious, expecting to see those Mormon squares get shown up. Or because BYU was the one who messed up the whole thing 40 years ago winning a natty despite not being in a power conference. And now it is because there are people convinced the Big 12 isn't a real conference and the money keeps chasing those wishes. But the second reason is because there's not enough money to counterbalance the first. The vast majority of BYU fans don't gamble. So when a line comes out that is clearly off, where's the money that will help set the line right? It doesn't happen. Ignore last year, their first in the Big 12, but go back historically and see BYU's record against the spread. Favorite or underdog, BYU has a really good record for those betting them.

LOL.... I love John but his comments are a bit ignorant. Both Iowa St and BYU played UCF within a week of each other. Who dominated UCF and who barely slid past UCF? John talks about BYU struggling if behind. Did John watch the last minute of the BYU game vs OkSt? Did John watch the drive just before half against UCF where BYU drove the length of the field in just over 30 seconds. Disappointed in Johns thoughts, BYU has had a far tougher schedule than Iowa State as well.... John discounting BYU's win over K State is a natural thing cuz John is a K State fan... Playing UCF within a week of each other doesn't mean much to me. Both BYU and Iowa State played their C-minus games that week, famously with the same halftime score, same final score, same need for a final drive touchdown. Judging Iowa State by how they did against UCF would be like those people who insist on judging BYU according to how they did against Okie State. Play ISU/UCF ten times and the results would look a lot more like what BYU did to them than how that one game played out.

K State fan here and without a doubt BYU is the best team in the BIG12 right now and I don’t see that changing unless someone on their schedule beats them and that is very doubtful. The disrespect shown towards their school and football program is disgraceful considering they have the most amazing football environments in all of college football. They have top notch fans, respectful, courteous and knowledgeable of the game. I’m hoping things play out and K State gets another opportunity to play them in the BIG12 Championship and it’s kind of scary as well…BYU is tough!

Admittedly, it was taken a little out of context, but it is still hilarious. To be fair, there were some really weird stat lines BYU was out gained in total offensive yards 241 to 367. Yet they won 38-9. How? The most obvious answers are: 1) Special teams. BYU returned a punt for a TD. 2) Defense. BYU also had a defensive TD 3) Turnovers. BYU also forced 3 turnovers. My favorite weird stat is that BYU only ran 48 plays on offense. Kansas St ran 72. Both teams averaged 5 yards per play on offense. Probably the most telling stat was the offenses starting field positions. K State's best starting field position was from their own 33 yard line. BYU started drives from the K-State's 27, 29, and 38 yard lines. All of which ended in TDs.

Clemson got as beat as bad as you can by a Georgia team, who got beaten by a 5-2 team that got beaten by Vandy! 2 losses! If winning is the most important, BYU and ISU have higher SOR's than many ranked above them. Extreme bias exists for sure!

K-st just got outplayed at home by a 2-6 Kansas team. they needed lucky breaks to win that game. he also said K-st just played in the Sugar bowl like they are some kind of brand. He left off Alabama destroyed them in the game. If BYU wins out the will get a top 4 seed in the CFP and get a by . A one loss Big 12 team will probably be a 5 seed . BYU has beaten 2, 1 loss teams that performed poorly against them. I believe that it was the defense that caused the ranked teams to lose. SMU and K-State are both in the conversation right now for a conference championship game, and both potentially have the chance to play in the playoff. The real reason they are winning is playing old school big 12 style. Strong defense and an offense good enough to be in the conversation each week. All 3 phases of the game are helping them win. It’s not just individual players or a single unit that is winning games. The coaching staff has high level experience and they are holding players accountable for their play. You can see the development of the players in the system from year to year. I expect that BYU is going to have some interesting in their coaching staff, but a majority of them have ties to the team or the state.

I am a fan of the 12 team CFP, however I will admit that there seems to be a difference between the top 6-8 teams and the teams after that. Oh, and before I forget, CU does not play BYU or ISU this year, and look who they have left. At the end of the regular season, take their record with a grain of salt. As a K-State fan I will never root for KU, and I've heard that CU's fanbase is trash, but if you are a fan of college football, and have watched KU play this year (lots of close losses), the KU/CU is must watch tv in November.

In order for colorado to even play in the big 12 title game iowa state or BYU would have to loose at least 2 games. Even then BYU likely has the tiebreaker over Colorado. I think they are a contender in terms of skill but their 2 losses make it very unlikely that they will actually make it to the championship.

There’s no doubt that the SEC is the best football conference. Unfortunately due to their success they are experiencing conference parity, Texas A&M, Tennessee and other teams are seeing recruiting improvement. Texas, Georgia, Alabama and LSU are getting challenged from within the conference. We have seen this in the BIG12 for years, it makes a great regular season but hurts in the rankings and bid for a National Championship.

Lots of parity across the board, Georgia STATE found a way to beat Vandy, team dynamics hard to measure, the new 12 team CFP will give a little more clarity, SEC lost to the BIG in the semi last year and sat out the Championship. ND beat one of the best SEC teams this year, then lose to NIU. Can't wait to see all this years top teams "Prove it on the Field". Talk is cheap

The gap between the SEC and Big12/Big Ten is the same as the gap between the Big12/Big Ten and ACC. Historically, the Big 12 has always ranked in the top 3 conferences.

The only reason sec teams have those proped up records is because all power 4 conferences have 9 confrence games but sec only has 8 conferences games then they other four games all be against teams like Appalachia state and Western michigan who gets paid to get there teams slottered did you guys know that
