If you think about it, Eddie was really considerate. He warned them about the lip fungus and sinus condition and Ruby Sue was fine. And he just asked for the children to have room in the house.

I could go on and state what everyone states and comments about "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" but what I will say is this - I was a huge fan of film critics Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel and respected them (especially Ebert) very much but IMO, they both missed the boat on this one! How ANYONE can dislike this movie is beyond me! 🤣🤣🤣

Catherine is Ellen's cousin (assuming first). I think they call her Cousin Catherine in the original Vacation. Eddie is not related to either Clark or Ellen.

Neither. His wife and Clark’s wife are cousins. Near the end of the movie, after the police raid, Clark refers to him as “my cousin-in-law”.
