No other country can compare to the size of the English Footballing system some of these clubs are truly huge for a 5th tier of a country with less than 60 million people
@DJV_TF2 жыл бұрын
Argentine Football is as huge, with not one linear tier system, but a binary tier system for teams associated to AFA, and teams indirectly associated to the federation via regional leagues, having 1st and second tier unified, 3 additional tiers for associated teams, and 3 separate tiers for non-associated teams, without counting their regional leagues. Most of the teams in fact have their own "stadium", even though the economy of the country does not help the teams as much in that regard. It's good to consider that Argentina, though it is considerably bigger in size, its population is only 45 million, with 1/4 of it living near Buenos Aires. That's an additional feature all by itself, most teams are relatively close to each other and most of the cities have more than 3 teams each, all around the country.

Pleased to see you've finally done the National League. Most clubs in it these days are fully professional and several have been in higher divisions in the past, including Notts County who were founder members of The Football League in 1888 and remained in the League until 2019.

Great vid as usual! The National League is non-league by name only these days. Given the size and the financial backing of some of the teams and the fact that lots of players are fully professional. This is one of your best for a few reasons (commentary as usual on point!) 1. Wealdstone- my home town. As a nipper I barely recall going to the market on the ground behind the ABC Cinema. Now a bloody Tesco. Isn’t Grosvenor Vale in Ruislip? 2. Aspirations. I love the small grounds with one stand and portacabins on the other. But your imagination let’s you look as the space around and imagine how Borehamwood increases in capacity as they glide up to the Premier League (thank you Championship Manager) 3. Depression. Quite a few great old stadiums now languishing in a non league environment. I remember Notts County and Oldham in the top flight, amongst other previous league teams like Wrexham. The reason the word 'meadow' pops up in so many football ground names/street names near them is that they are located on what used to be (yes, you guessed it) meadows. The reason being people didn't want to build on and close to rivers that flooded, so the land was still open space in the late 19th century when football really got going.

Would love to see Lamport Stadium get onto one of these lists, somehow, even if it might be as part of a theme list like "bankrupt teams", "strange stadium history/trivia" etc. It would also be on any list covering stadiums of a future North American Rugby League (NARL). - Home ground of the Toronto Wolfpack, who played in the U.K.'s Rugby Football League from 2017-2020, including promotion to Super League, signing Sonny Bill Williams and ultimately failing due to Covid19/pandemic induced bankruptcy. - Built on the site of the site of a former prison, the Andrew Mercer Reformatory for Women. - Across the street from the former Toronto Central Prison and a short walk to the former Provincial Lunatic Asylum (now Centre for Addiction and Mental Health). - A former industrial area turned sea of modern condo towers. - A basic stadium with a great skyline view (facing east).

Chesterfield's ground which opened 2010/2011 season was built when we were in League 2, with hopes of being league 1 team. We managed it twice (also relegated twice 🙄) and managed to get to the playoffs for the championship before the former owner and his puppet totally mismanaged the club and led to 2 relegations back to back and 2 seasons of just scrapping out of relegation in the national League. I believe we are now the only team in the UK (possibly the world) owned by a charity.

Nice - thanks for your work . If I’m not wrong like Tim , Eastleighs’ ground is at Stoneham which has the boundary of Eastleigh Borough Council & Southampton City crossing through it. When the scummers ( I mean southampton fc ) needed to replace The Dell there was plenty of encouragement for the new ground to be in Stoneham also bordered by the M27 . Because they’re southampton they decided to build a new ground in the centre of the industrial part of the city right next to the main Weymouth to London line but without a station for supporters of home or away to conveniently use. Perhaps the Stoneham development impinged too much into Eastleigh Borough which could be an administrative headache so ex Hampshire League now big time Eastleigh remain undisturbed by their soon to be Championship rivals . Sorry if this rambles but thanks for your informative video. Cheers 👍😁

True, and another fact: Juventus play in black and white stripes because Notts County do. When they were founded, a member of the new club had some contacts in Nottingham (I think he was a former County player?) and he arranged to get some old Notts kits sent over. They've played Juve in pre-season friendlies as a tribute to the historical links. As a Forest fan I think it's terrible what's happened to them in recent years, they're a unique club and they deserve better.
