For me, what surprise me in the end is the fact they got to keep the treasure. I was so used to the whole, "Someone pulls a hidden switch and the treasure gets swallowed by the earth while our heroes barely escape and learn the real treasure was the journey/friendship" trope, that when they got to keep the treasure, I was surprised as HELL. It' such a fresh breath of air and I love it.

Not only was the ending not an action overblown mess, I was surprised and very glad to see them place a real treasure. Rather than shiny gold and jewels, many of history's lost artifacts (scrolls from the Library of Alexandria) are among the discoveries. Great treasure reveal scene as well!

Honestly the most absurd idea in this is that they said Ben Franklin hid something on top of Liberty Hall. I'm imaginig Ben Franklin balancing on the roof in the most cartoonish fashion. I enjoyed this and the sequel.

Funny enough, this was originally supposed to be a Touchstone film, as indicated by some of its trailers. I guess they decided to slap the Disney name on it at the last minute to add some marquee value.

I also like how the side kick is kind of a goof, but not entirely useless or incompetent-- just there too make the hero look better by comparison. He actually contributes to the team (especially with the whole day light savings time bit).

I really enjoyed this because the good guys are outnumbered, outgunned, and just generally out-resourced by the bad guys every step of the way, and they only have one thing going for them: they're smarter than the bad guys. You see a lot of heroes win by "cleverness" or "wits," but it's not very often that you see them win by pure intelligence, and I really liked seeing it in this film

I literally have never recovered the brain cells I lost from watching this movie. I'm sure most attorneys I've ever encountered are also well-trained stuntmen. But at least it started off well. When they were digging in the snow, the first thing the shovel hits is the name plate for the giant ship. Those guys are seriously lucky! And the luck really continued when his estranged father had plenty of lemons in a drawer. You never know when your son may show up out of the blue one day with an urgent need to decode a hidden message on the back of the declaration of independence. One can never be too prepared.

"National Treasure" is a fun adventure film. Nicholas Cage did it good as long as he worked recently with Jerry Bruckheimer since "The Rock" and "Con Air" which is a good thing for his performance. Man, Bruckheimer come back more edgy action films and please bring back Michael Bay for helping to direct back in his career than doing shit "Transformers" movies. Overall, good movie.

Doug, this might not be the video to request this, but I think you should commit a month to all the DC Animated Universe Movies! I mean there's plenty of movies to do one everyday +, and since you know Marvel commands the live action movie universe (besides Batman), it would only make sense to review and criticize the one real good thing DC does?! I have rarely ever seen anyone say they didn't like this movie. There's no pretentious greater meaning shoved down our throats, it does contain some legit history, and it's got enough adventure for the little kids, and enough humor for the older crowd. It's a little silly, but I wouldn't even call it bad. I wouldn't rate it at all near the 90s Batman movies, which I love for how bad they are. National Treasure is kinda wholesome in a way.

This movie was my childhood, probably because it's a movie that my parents got into so it's something we as kids and they as adults enjoyed. We now use "Albuquerque as a term for whenever one of us says something completely random What I've come to find out that shocked me; there's actually a certain degree of legitimacy to the conspiracy theory. The Knights Templar did amass a vast source of wealth, so much so that they are considered the world's first multi national bank/corporation, and that wealth wasn't necessarily recovered in full when the institution fell. There are certain theorists who believe that the Templars transported their treasure to America. Some believe it's the Templar treasure that's at the bottom of the money pit at Oak Island. So the fact that this dumbass movie about a treasure map on the back of the Declaration of Independence actually has some inspiration from a real life treasure is astounding to me.

My problem with this movie is that it does what Twister did - have a rival team going against the main characters just because the directors thought the movie had to have villains. Should have just been a regular heist film with Nicolas cage being an anti-hero who still Has a good heart and uses smarts to get the declaration rather than by force

Critic, let try to explain something to you. Disney is not insanely wacky like, say, most of Nickelodeon where parents have to struggle through the shows to watch them with their kids. Or inappropriate like what Cartoon Network is becoming. Disney is family friendly entertainment where the whole family can sit down and enjoy it together. Never mind the actors, never mind the directors, never mind the animators, ect. That's what Disney is and if you go into a Disney movie expecting anything else, you're going to be disappointed. I, for one, don't watch Disney movies for who's in them, I watch them because they're Disney and I know what to expect from them. Is Will Smith in it? It's Disney - he's not going to curse. Is Tim Curry in it? It's Disney - he's not going to be inappropriate. Ect. I don't know what *you* expect from Disney, but I expect wholesome family entertainment the whole family can enjoy together.

I feel that Bruckheimer made it "not a typical disney movie" I don't watch television often, but when I do, I see the same sort of "knowing what you are and playing to its troupes" thing often in Bruckheimer's works, as well as with Pirates 1. The sequels are dead to me..

I was skeptical and not so interested in watching this movie many years ago because it made me think of Indiana Jones movies; the mysteries, the puzzles and adventures... I didn't even watch Indiana Jones either a long time ago because of my lack of interest but I know about the movies from a friend who was a fan of them. But when I finally sat down to watch National Treasure... I actually enjoyed it. And I liked some of its humor... whatever it was, I need to rewatch it again. But I do like its theme music, I believe that one gave the movie its charm. I also enjoyed the sequel just as much, or maybe even more. I do need to go back rewatching some Disney movies. Just ironic that I watched both National Treasure movies long before I finally sat down to watch all the Indiana Jones movies.

Doug if you liked this movie you should definitly play the Uncharted games, or at least watch someone play them, Uncharted 2 to be exact, it's like this movie but the storytelling is much more advanced, the mood is just right because of the amazing pacing. especially since the new Uncharted 4 is coming and it promisses to take that level of story telling even further. I mean seriously, they are doing some amazing things with videogames, there's real potencial there that's being explored right now, The Last Of Us is another great game with great story

It has some good lines, and Nicolas Cage isn't *that* bad here.
