I made it with natural cocoa butter, sweet almond oil and beeswax with bain-marie method and there was no darkening on the skin, I tested it on light colored skin.

I’d think this would work just as well for a softer leather. Is it more of a suede material or is it smooth? For smooth I’d say apply the same way I did for the boots. If it is suede maybe a medium bristle brush to gently work it in would be best. Either way spot check a small area first to make sure it is giving you the results you want.

Have you tried your same diy concoction for your light colored SUEDE boots ? I have a pair of tan SUEDES to condition. I like the idea of beeswax and shea butter but won't the thick sticky castor oil make the leather sticky to clean or polish afterwards? Also, do you think the mixture gives a mattish finish to your shoes instead of shiny?
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse 2 жыл бұрын
I'd definitely say it is more of a matte finish which I like. As to suede, I'd be hesitant to use this recipe. I did some poking around and this blog post seems like it has some good suggestions. shoefilter.com/can-i-polish-suede-shoes/ Hope that helps!

hi! thanks for your vid! however, can i use this to condition my leather couch? thanks!
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse 3 жыл бұрын
You could and it would work well but my worry would be the oils getting in your clothes. A certain amount of the oils will absorb right away but some will still be on the surface and could get into clothing fabrics. Maya be try conditioning part of the couch you don’t sit on first, then see how long the oils stay on the surface. Always spot check a small area to start, too.

Would you use this process (or not) on a leather purse/backback? I don't want the end result to feel tacky, or greasy, or get on my clothes (since its a backpack) so what do you suggest?
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse Жыл бұрын
If you have another leather item you can try it on first maybe give that a go so you can see if you like the end result. This conditioner isn’t tacky or greasy once you rub it in thoroughly. I think if you applied it and let it sit a few days it would be just fine. Still, like I said before a patch test on another item would be safest.

Why vinegar?
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse 3 жыл бұрын
Vinegar is naturally acidic so it eats away at dirt, grease, etc. It has proven bacteria fighting properties so it helps really get your leather down to a clean state. It also naturally softens things. That’s why a lot of people like to use it as a natural fabric softener.

Vinegar to clean leather? 🤔🙄 think it damages leather😥😥
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
@RoughandTumbleFarmhouse Жыл бұрын
Only if you leave it on there. This is also a 50/50 water vinegar combination which is then wiped away very quickly. Another example of this is how vinegar does a great job of cleaning rust off tools if used the correct amount of time. If you leave it too long though it will corrode the metal.

Can’t help you much with the falling apart bit (you should see my couch cushions!) but I’d be careful with using this on something your clothing is on a lot. Most of the oils will absorb into the leather but some will stay on top and may get on clothes.
