Thank you for inspiring others with natural hair care. I have given up 'store bought' hair care for 3 years now. Also, have stopped dying my hair since last July. I use baking soda for washing and ACV and herb infusions for the rinse. Sometimes I use Dr. Bronners for washing. My hair is doing fantastic. Thanks again for helping everyone live a more natural self care life.

Thank you so much for this! I have thick curly hair and the move from New Orleans to around the Seattle area has left my hair in shock. A lot more dry and brittle, I started using head&shoulders, then I noticed I was losing more hair. It’s been feeling lifeless lately but I stopped shampooing and will do it once in a blue moon and it’s helped a lot. I’ve been trying to figure out how to care for it naturally and ditch the chemicals altogether. This is a blessing, thank you sister. Also, I’m 24 but have a big silver streak in my hair naturally and I love it.. call it my wisdom streak;) haha! God bless.

Gray is a sign that you got old enough to have some. Due to illness and accidents not everyone is lucky enough to ever develop gray hair. I was almost one of those people and now I celebrate the skunk strip at the front of my head and the wrinkles on my face. I celebrate EVERY day as though it's a gift I almost didn't get to experience.

I have slight wavy hair but have been using baking soda with vinegar rinse. In the winter time my skin dries out so; so I am not sure how the baking soda will work. I used to color my hair. I stopped in 2013 but caved in this year and after doing it; I said never again. I earned those grays. My poor daughter just had a perm done and her hair broke off in areas. I told her to stop using those chemicals. I just had a cousin’s granddaughter who is 22 lose all her hair to alopecia. That makes me realize to be thankful for what I have.

I got my vinegar down last night to stir it like you suggested (it is 8 days in now) and it was fizzing away and smelt like something was definitely happening. Some of the fruit pieces that were sticking out of the water (in the air gaps around my little “weight” jar I floated in the mouth of my big jar) were going a bit mouldy but nothing from the water line down so what you said about the vinegar killing the mould is definitely true even this early on! I'll try again, typed it all in and I left for a moment and it's gone - oh well. I was blessed with seeds in a drawing :) and they all have been planted, in the house. They are all new to me Amaranth - 1 is up so far; Borage - 6 are up; Calendula - 7 are up; Feverfew - 4 germinated; Echinacea - first 2 just arrived;s Marshmallow 1 has arrived, awaiting more; Yarrow - None germinated yet. So blessed and happy. Now for others, after seeing your video talking about catnip I bought some seeds, I've never had any luck with spinach and keep trying new varieties so I'm trying Winter Giant this year ; I've had success with kale so going to try a new one in White Russian (sounds interesting). This listing is long enough already, I don't have my warm weather seeds out but I am going to try popping corn for the first time also this year. Happy planting everyone.

Yarrow was the one that took the absolute longest for me, even more so than the feverfew! I had given up on it and stuck the pot I was starting it in out on the deck and forgot about it. Just like the feverfew. Once the weather got warm enough, they finally germinated and I saw their feather leaves coming up out of the soil

Hi Heidi, This information was just wonderful!! I use an oil on my hair too that I make homemade. I use coconut oil, jojoba oil, a bit of castor oil. and rosemary essential oil. But learning from you, I am now going to add in some lavender and sage essential oils. And I am anxious to make floral vinegar and give that a try. It sounds great!! And you are SO right. The store bought products really strip our hair. It took a few weeks for my hair and skin to normalize but once it did, it looks so much better and it’s so much nicer using homemade natural products. And yes...we all need to be grateful for the hair we have!! And the same goes for eye color. I cringe when I hear young girls say they wish they had a different eye color. Thank goodness they can see!! Who cares about the color!! I was sorry to hear that your wrist is injured. I’m glad your healing oil is helping. My husband has stiffness in his knuckles. I think I might like to give that red pepper oil a try for him. Thanks for all the tips!! As I have said in the past, you truly are a treasure!! Love, Mary ❤️😘❤️

I remember when I was a young girl it seemed all the models were blonde with blue eyes so I assumed my hair and eye color meant I was ugly. I remember wanting blue eyes so badly. The mistake we make is when we allow media and society to dictate to us what beauty is but true beauty comes from inside anyway and that will show in our outer appearance as well :)P

@@debbiefockler9890 interesting how we are all so different and similar at the same time. I was using a fairly natural product for years that was bought out and chemicals added over time. I stopped using it a couple of weeks ago and feel as if my body is shedding toxins like crazy. I had been reluctant to quit using it as my hair frizz’s up when a regiment doesn’t agree with it. Baking soda is alkaline having a pH of 9. So it's to stripping for the hair. It removes everything and I mean everything from the hair, eating away at the hair cuticle and not only that constant use of baking soda with make the hair weak, dry and easily brakeable as well as lead to soda buildup. So it's good to use everyone in a while.

As far as I’m aware, henna is just herbs mixed together. It’s common in the Middle East. I’ve used the modified 2 hour version from henna color lab from Oregon, great products that smell wonderfully earthy like rooibos, Amla, henna, etc. The only thing is, it seems to make my hair a bit straighter and thicker (I have 3a curly hair) and so I tend to get it cut or layered afterwards if I’m using henna. It does feel wonderful on and makes my hair really shiny and healthy, and I have read it’s because it seals the cuticle.

I tried the baking soda and vinegar rinse as well...way too dry and I had a lot of static. I do live in a very dry climate and while my hair is not curly like yours it does have some going on. For the last year or so I have been using Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap and citrus hair rinse and it works quite well. And in the winter I use their hair "styler" cream which works well for the static. I also only wash with the soap about every 4 days (I water rinse daily). Once I have some peppermint going again I think I will make some vinegar to use as a rinse and see how that works...save a few bucks, right! Thanks Heidi.

I get so many compliments on my silver-grey and dark blonde hair that for the first time in my 58 yrs is almost to the small of my back, I used to never be able to grow it past my shoulders since I have fine hair but a lot of it.

How often do you shampoo? Does hair stay cleaner, longer with your formula? I find now every fourth day I must shampoo, but for first two days my hair looks and smells really clean using natural things. Body does adjust, it is so true. Boar bristle brush for thin straight hair I found is great to pull natural oils down hair to ends. I believe there was truth in times past to counting brush strokes every night before bed. Hair gets so soft and stays cleaner at root area longer. I have been letting gray go for a long time too. Have had many compliments on the way it grows in all in front really, and it's tone is crisp white. They think it's professionally altered at times. I'm actually glad I stopped fighting it as when coloring before it always showed gray roots within the week after. It and I felt so fake all the time. Now I feel even more confident than any hair color could afford me. Societal norms can really play with your head. Thanks if you can reply about first two questions. All respect, I love your ways and faith.

I have thin, fine wavy curly hair. It got more curly has I got older. I stopped fighting it years ago. When I discovered the curly girl method, I knew that was something I could do. Best thing I ever did. Saves me so much time getting ready in the mornings. Since my hair is thin, I just let it drip dry, while I get ready for work. My hair has not had heat put to it in several years now. And it is so much healthier. My husband is not crazy about it, but I told him, it is curly hair, or no hair (my hair was getting thinner and thinner) Though I do not think he is convinced that is the truth, he accepts it. I don't battle the frizzes any more either. I no longer hate our humid days. Humidity is a curly girls friend. lol However, I do have to wet or wash every morning, so I can get the tangles out. My hair will totally dreadlock, if I don't. I do not really like my curly hair, but it is better than no hair. lol Great info, as usual.

LOL. He didn't actually say anything, it's the look he had. ya know? lol We have been together for 38 years, so he takes me for what I am, and I do him. Like most men, he has always liked long flowing hair, which I have never had. It has never been longer than my shoulder blades, but have worn it from a pixie cut on down as long as it would grow (just past my shoulders). I have never been able to grow my hair long. When our relationship began, I was on the beach in Daytona Beach, FL sporting short blond, wavy sun bleached hair. (quite different from his ideal) We dated for quite a while before he ever saw me in makeup. So, I have never been much on styling my hair and making my face up. I wear minimal makeup to work and church, but not all the time. And my dear husband wont say much about the curls, because he has very curly and unruley hair. lol He just keeps it short, so he can blow it out.

I am strawberry blonde with gray and I have never EVER died or bleached my hair. When I use the oil, the vinegar wash alone is not enough to get all the oil out. So, I have been using a few drops of Dr. Bronner's liquid soap for shampoo & body wash. I do condition with ACV, even though the smell chokes me. LOL It's worth it because my hair is really shiny. The smell goes away, and I get people asking me all the time what I use on my hair. I tell them about you & to visit your channel if they want to know ;) Your hair is AB.SO.LUTE.LY GORGEOUS!!! SOMEday, I'm going to try my hand at making your soap. I bought sandalwood combs for my mom, my son (who has hair like yours) and myself, way back when Stacy did her video on it. I have not used a bristle brush since my teens because even the natural bore bristle damaged my fine, thin hair. I have German, Rumanian & Polish hair. LOL And, YES.... be very grateful for the hair that you have, whatever texture, color, etc... because eventually, it's all going to fall out. Heidi ... going thru some tough times here. Hi Heidi what is the best type of lavender to grow?
@RainCountryHomestead6 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is that I am growing several kinds but do not remember which is which by name but I would say the standard lavender with the longer medium purple flowers (I believe it is the English Lavender), not the small, dark flowers and for sure not the ones where the petals only open at the very top of the cone shaped flower head and the petals are huge. I think that one might be considered French lavender but I am not sure. The one with the smaller darker flowers is actually not bad but it does not seem to get as many flowers as the more standard variety you see and the last one I described, well, the smell is not near as nice and the leaves are useless, in my opinion, as an herb for cooking as they taste horrible. The basic lavender has sweet, non perfumy tasting leaves that make a great rosemary replacement (or even used in conjunction with) in foods. That is why I like it best

Rain Country Thanks Heidi, I appreciate your help. I have grown 2 types of lavender and I also can't remember their names! One plant was far superior to the other..wish I would have written it down. I moved to a new property and I'm getting excited to plant. Thanks again, you're always such a good source of information.

Thanks. So the vinegar shampoo mix: How do you make it? And does it lather? Did you say you use an additional conditioner? My hair grows fast and is curly and also dry. I have the same comb!

The vinegar rinse and shampoo are two different things. I did link to the videos on how I make them in the icards in the upper right hand corner of the video, just hover over that section when the video is playing and click on the "i" that shows up and you will see all the videos linked there :)

I don't care about the color of my hair but my hair is so thin, and straight I don't know what to do with it. To me it always looks so scraggly. I would kill for hair like yours.

My hair is like yours, I started rinsing with nettle tea which gives more texture and then also added ACV to the nettle tea which adds the softness and shine

I so badly want vinegar to work for my hair! I have always had thick hair, ( Italian/ Hungarian..lol). It has been thinning ALOT lately (48 yo) The vinegar just seems to make it feel like straw! Any ideas? Thanks and God bless! Mrs.O P.S. Ok, I had to come back and edit this, because as I was rethinking this, I realized I was also doing Baking Soda at the same time! I believe I will try just the vinegar and I have made your hair growth oil (about a month ago)! So that as well.

I am also of Italian decent and yes, the baking soda made my hair feel like straw after awhile. At first I had thought it was the vinegar so started looking into it and all I could find was people saying vinegar made their hair softer. It took a LOT of looking before I finally found someone say that they did the baking soda and it was way too harsh on their hair and they started having issues. I know it was after going with the baking soda method for some time that I lost a lot of my hair too! I am not sure if it was truly from that or from going off the thyroid medications and my body simply going through an adjustment period as I did both of those at the same time.

Rain Country Thank you! So, are you now off all thyroid meds? Woops-- looks like I found your video on that on pharma free;)

I'm allergic to citric acid, so I can not use a lot of things like oranges, tomatoes, lemons, limes ect... The higher the citric acid content, the sicker I get. Is there anything else natural I could use?
@RainCountryHomestead6 жыл бұрын
Use in replace of what? The vinegar? Vinegar is acetic acid not citric acid. Unless you are using citrus fruits to make your vinegar, I would not see a problem there, unless you also have a problem with acetic acids.
@julieselden79326 жыл бұрын
No it was just the citric acid. I heard you talking about how good the citric acid was for you, so I was just wondering if there is anything else that I could use in place of the citric acid that might be used like that. Also I have been on your channel looking for the laundry soap, and can not seem to find it could you tell me the name of the video? I have been to busy stopping and watching all of the other video's. LOL Just found this channel and love it thanks for doing it!

I guess I will have to watch this video again to see where I talked about citric acid being good for you, I do not remember saying that nor remember talking about it at all in this video. Here is the laundry powder video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boDEYZxpn5uCgZY I hear ya' on the time issue, I use to watch and listen to so many other channels but now I rarely have any time for any of them. So much time just goes into making videos let alone the gardening, skirt making, and other chores. I miss having time to just read a book! haha So glad you found us here and hope you enjoy it! :D

Yes I have done nothing but watch your other video's today. I have a broken back 3rd time in same place and 4 other places and it can no longer be fixed. Since it is raining today here, I'm having a bad day and not able to get out of bed and so glad I found this channel! It will keep me busy all day long LOL I'm watching your skirt video right now. I looked back on the video and you had written that vitamine C was good for you, I can not have it and was wondering what you thought would be good instead of it! Loved all 6 video's I have watched so far today! Thanks for the laundry one!

How long do you think it takes for your hair to stop over compensating and then begin to see non-greasy hair? Ive tried to use my moms natural hair soap bar and vinegar as a rinse. But I give up a few days in because my hair gets SO greasy!!!! And I chicken out! The funny thing is that I even use more "natural" hair care items but my hair obviously still over compensated.

Annie McElroy just wear a scarf, bandana, hat..... and let it be. My short hair was never a problem, but now that I'm growing it I find it a bit harder, and my hair is way past the no more chemical adjusting!
@RainCountryHomestead6 жыл бұрын
I really cannot say how long as this was never an issue for me but I am pretty sure it takes longer than a week. I recommend trying the baking soda method and see how that works for you. I will still want to follow up with a vinegar rinse but I also recommend you dilute it more than I do. Maybe only a tablespoon in 7 or 8 ounces of water. The vinegar will help remove the baking soda so it does not leave white streaks in your hair

Annie McElroy My daughter took a little more than 3 weeks. Her hair was fairly long at the time.

Annie McElroy try doing the vinegar & COLD WATER, RINSE DAILY & NO blowdrying. When we use heat we encourage more oil. Cool discourages. If still snowy where you are instead of hat or hood try earmuffs. Your hair will enjoy the cold & it Might help.
