When I was young I remember my Mom asking my Pediatrician (at an annual visit) if she needed to be giving my sister and I a vitamin. I loved his answer. He asked her if she was feeding us fresh veggies and fruits. She said yes we grow a garden every year (and her brother supplied us with fruit from his orchard). He said that's good, do you feed them good quality meat. She said yes we raise our own cattle (her brothers raised chickens which we traded some for beef and her mom raised laying hens for eggs). He basically told her that he only recommend supplements to people that didn't want to eat a healthy diet. I wish we had more doctors like him but that was more years ago then I care to admit and the doctors today don't really care to study nutrition.

Buy an almond tree now and grow in a container until you get your property. I have 2 avocados, apples, cider apples, bay tree, tea tree, coffee, cinnamon trees, manuka tress, lemon, orange, mandarin, almond amd Moringa Tree all in containers and they are going great.

Heidi, I too struggled to grow organic tumeric root then one day I discovered if you moisten them and put them in a snap lock bag, leave an end of the bag open a little you create like a mini greenhouse for them which makes them sprout. This method also works for things like Chestnuts if you are wanting to grow those as well

Occasionally, I make myself a treat with cacao nibs and coconut oil & shredded coconut, mixing with crushed chia, flax seed, and hemp seeds. I add a little honey for sweetness. After forming the mixture into balls, I place them in the freezer so they solidify. Then, I roll the mini balls into cocoa powder to coat the outside all around. I have pernicious anemia and have battled with it for years, but have changed my diet and grow more of my food organically now. Not to mention been taking herbs and other natural things. My personal favorite is Rye. I get it bulk from Nebraska. I don't eat wheat. Rye is usable almost the same. I converted my sour dough starter to rye. If you don't add caraway that gives rye bread that flavor, it is doesn't have a heavy flavor, but I like it more than wheat.

Heidi, I have been making powdered greens for a number of years now. I have a nutribulletRX due to diaphragm surgery. I do not make drinks as much as I used to, but I add the greens to just about everything I do. This year has been bad as I am battling a bunny who thinks that I planted just for it. I put up cloth last night and so far, seems to be working. I grew Amaranth for my chickens last year and they were not interested until it flowered and then they devoured it. Well, when I clean out the coop, I put the mess all in a pile and it composts beautifully (a little high in Nitrogen for the garden - so add epsom salts) - but this year, it is growing Amaranth - lots of amaranth. And, I grew red chard for them and they were not real interested - but I thought it was pretty for a salad and started picking some to dress it up - well, it is delicious. Don't think I will ever even consider kale (tried it - no no). I take my crops during the seasons when there is too much for me and I clean and dehydrate (and yes, I dry them out some before to save time). They are all kinds of mixes from red lettuce to endive - about anything - except parsley and spinach (I do them separately). I just put the year on the jar and keep using it in everything - my mushroom dishes, mashed potatoes, eggs, etc. If you read all the charts, I could never eat enough of it (not concentrated like this) and get enough nutrition. OH and the king and queen of greens is parsley and pretty easy to grow with no bunny 😞 BTW, did you know that bunnies are MUCH faster than even German shepherds. Really fast! I read many years ago that parsley has more nutrition per spoonful (or any measurement) than anything else you can eat. You do not have to eat the curly thing on top of your piece of meat - just powder it and into every pot of beans or casserole or stir fry, etc.

I can't grow tumeric outside, but it grows in my house in a sunny window. I grow it in a large shallow pot, the diameter of the pot is 14"x8" . I use the leaves in cooking. I live in northern Ontario in Canada . Great info love your channel.

I have tried that before and while it started to grow and was doing fine, it got attacked by some pest that came in from some citrus trees we had at the time and killed everything. It was horrible. I really should try again

Couldn't find a prenatal vitamin I was satisfied with so I mostly just eat the best I can (from my own garden and the store) with a few basic supplements on the side. Doctors say I'm the healthiest they've seen in a while.

broccoli is very easy to grow and tastes amazing, even the leaves can be used as pot greens, they sprout fast and are very good for you, also sweet potato leaves are very good and dry well for tea or used stir fry or pot greens, those are two plants that are super easy, once you eat broccoli out of your own garden you will never want store bought again, I use super light dust of DE earth to keep bugs off, completely non toxic and editable, just don't breath the dust.

I grind flax seed in the blender and I put rolled oats in the blender with it to absorb the oil so it doesn't get lumpy. Rice flour or other gluten free flour provides the same effect. I use all of these together in my gluten free baking so they get mixed together anyway. That was poorly worded but you get the idea.

Wild Docks, and California Buckwheat flower seeds can be gathered at the end of the season when they dry on the plants. I grind them and add in baking. I also harvest Stinging Nettle seeds, dry them, and sprinkle them on top of almost everything, as well as using in baking, especially things like flatbread and seed crackers. Please talk about the high oxalates in many greens. Especially hard for any with kidney weakness.

Peas, buckwheat, and sunflowers all make great microgreens you can grow indoors or outside. I like to grow these in Ocean Solutions potting mix so that I can keep them growing for 3-4 weeks and harvest just what I want to eat each day.

There are a lot of plants we wouldn't eat. But if you shop somewhere like True Leaf Market, they're not going to sell seeds labeled "microgreens" if we shouldn't eat them. They also sell kits for people getting started. But I can tell you that peas, buckwheat, sunflowers, radishes, brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, etc.), basil, and salad mixes are all great. I don't bother with beets because although they're tasty and have big seeds, they produce sprouts and greens so small it isn't worth it to me to grow them. I do research when choosing microgreens for poultry because sometimes what we can eat differs from what they should eat. (Not often.) @@darlatobin2240

We truly believe we can grow our supplements. We are for Growing, Preparing, Eating and growing it well in nutrient dense soil. This is great that more than one of us will be doing this.

I have been getting all my supplements thru diet.....vitamins & minerals both, from wild greens that grow in my area...mainly my yard and woods. I try not to eat processed foods, and eat mainly raw honey. I do grow a few herbs and purchase herbs from Rose Mtn. Herbs (I think is a good company). My yearly complete blood panel is great and both my doctor and myself are pleased. i am 77 yrs.

@jcgirl3 I also read that people with sensitive stomachs to Moringa benefit from lightly cooking it before drying it. They also found that many of the nutrients are destroyed when cooked too hot, and for long periods of time. So watch out for that. They recommended cooking at a low boil for less than 30 minutes. My stomach always feel sick with specific supplements and I cannot take daily vitamins because it does the same thing! I haven’t tried in quite some time and I’m not going to. I did get one of those 100 count pill makers about six months ago, and have been putting my natural medicinal’s in those. I plan to make a bunch of them also for my in-laws with specific problems😊

Figs will LOOK dead in winter time but keep watering them they will come back slowly. Always cover them in winter time so only you water them daily and use clear product so the natural light still gets through to them. Look at the tips of the stems for a green tip coming out.

Hi Heidi, I think it would be great if you wrote all this in a book or ebook. I would buy it, and I saw that someone else here would, too! I am helping my son move back home for the summer, but when I get home I will write down your ideas about making dehydrated greens for supplements. We can grow moringa here in Florida, so I have a bunch of it dehydrated and use it, love it, too. I haven't seen nettles growing in the wild here, though we have a lot of elder flowers and berries all over the place. So, we'll see about that one. Anyway, I'm rambling here. Even a ebooklet with ideas and recipes would be great. I make soap, too. I'd love to see some of your soap and herb recipes! 😊😁🙂💜💙💜

@@leavingayeye5198 Have you tried eating just the tips. We feed most of our moringa to the chickens and reserve the tender tips to cook as you would asparagus. The flavor is similar and milder than the rest of the plant, a bit nutty - very nice. I like to add it to stir-fries, soups, omelettes, or as a side dish on their own.

Yes!!! This is very helpful. I started the protocol from Modern Roots Life and lien you said they are real and organic supplements but I did a detox of iron and a creased my magnesium and copper and I no longer have horrible cramps anymore. I use to be anemic … battled it all my life. So I know when I have cramps I am not balanced and need an iron detox. Usually it’s in the middle of winter….slowly adding in more and more natural foods. I already love veggies but the family doesn’t as much and winters in Montana are hard soooooo supplements are good when needed just not to replace REAL food!!!!!

I like to make my own chocolate now and then..(mainly for my dad) as you say, it has to be organic cacao butter and cacao powder, the only other ingredients I use are maple syrup and vanilla or peppermint to flavour it. It is so expensive for the ingredients but it's a treat now and then :)

Yes, I have been doing that for quite a number of years and have many recipes out. My most basic one involves only the Cacao butter, Cacao powder, and raisins though any sweet dried fruit would work

This video showed up in my suggested videos today the timing is perfect. I have been taking magnesium supplements for a few years and absolutely need them, but hate having to rely on buying them. Just eating my organic garden greens has not been enough. I have found a good source of organic almonds at our farmers market and will make myself a blend of dehydrated greens for my evening tea. I do not eat much bread, but have been thinking of baking my own again, since the local bakery no longer makes my favorite sourdough barley bread. I have had no luck growing ginger or turmeric and keep trying. I did manage to grow moringa. I planted 6 seeds, 5 sprouted. I gave one to a friend. One died, my chickens got to one, one is surviving and fortunately the one in a pot is doing well. I plan on bringing it inside this fall. We are so pleased to be as self reliant as possible, this year more than ever. Thanks for all your very informative videos. I learned a lot from my grandparents and great grandmother and from books, but you fill in many blanks.

I dice my hen’s hrd boiled eggshells along with egg & add a different green herb, diced apple, a ltl. Flax seed & rolled oatmeal , bit of water for an aft snack, other days I pinch off some fresh Kale, broccoli leaves from my garden & let them eat from my hand (till the end & break up the stem lol). I figure I eat their eggs I want them nutritious and keeps them friendly to boot. I have 4 hens & when they see me coming with a blk bento bowl they are at the door! : ). Oh I grind my orange peels & lemon limes vegetables and store in jars with a moisture blk pkt.

Heidi I know you want to move eventually. But it’s very expensive to build. Maybe this is just a suggestion and you probably thought about it, but maybe just buy some property and work it. Plant your orchard. Plant you’re not trees. Let it grow for a while. And then it can either be a bug out location or you can build on it eventually. I’m sure you probably already thought about this though but thought I’d check

We actually did a video recently about reevaluating our goals and while I do not remember if we actually mentioned exactly what you said here, it is what is in our plans when getting a piece. We do not want necessarily want to move but do want to expand.
