It’s my 5 Year Natural Hair Growth / Length Check Update Video. I did the big chop back in April 2017, having transitioned to natural hair for 18 months and so I’ve been documenting my natural hair journey over the years, through pictures and hair journey updates.
My last update was done back in October 2021 (sharing a 6 month comparison from Apr 2021-Oct 2022) so in this update i’m sharing everything from the very beginning April 2017 to April 2022, as well as my update from October 2021 to April 2022 through side by side comparison pics.
As always, I’m happy with the progress I’ve made over the years and this journey is all about lifestyle and just continuing to maintain the health and condition of my hair.
Hope you enjoy the video 🤗

Your hair looks so beautiful. I noticed the front of my hair almost doesn't grow like the remaining parts of my hair. It's also not as thick as the rest. I pray God gives it a touch.

Thank you! Yeah it can be frustrating. Maybe try incorporating something different into your routine like; vitamin supplements, drinking more water, certain healthy foods or even adding something new to your routine that you’re not currently doing.

Wow You are a inspiration, specially because is good to see that we can grow our hair wearing our favorite styles . That is not mandatory to use protective styles. My big challenge is patient 🙈 Blessings dear Amália from Mozambique 🇲🇿

Aww…that’s nice to hear 🥰 Yep, it’s definitely achievable without wearing protective styles, but of course, it requires more work and effort to maintain our hair. But yep, you’ve definitely gotta have some patience too 😄

Hi there, great video! I’ve currently experienced severe breakage after leaving my mini twists in for 3 months. Some sections were literally matting and dreading up. I had to rip through my hair to get it detangled and now my hair is uneven. I have thick hair so everything looks good but I notice a difference. Lately, detangling has been really hard too, wash days can take up to 10 hours and I’d still be experiencing breakage. Besides from that, my hair seems relatively healthy. What do you suggest I do? I want Healy hair and this breakage is really hindering it
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 2 жыл бұрын
Hey thank you! I’m sorry to hear about the breakage you experienced with your hair, that must have been devastating. 😞 Ok, so all you can do is to make sure that you’re keeping up with regular deep conditioning treatments (moisture & protein) to help keep your hair healthy and in good condition. But of course it’s going to take some time, especially for the damaged side to repair again and grow back. But just stay the course!
@Yishaitheservant
@Yishaitheservant Жыл бұрын
I'll suggest you switch from twists to braids (no attachments/extensions). I've been doing mini braids with no extensions and I've experienced less breakage and sheddings.

I enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing your hair growth journey with us. I have an issue with my crown area. My hair is the shortest there and seems like it's not growing. The back and sides I don't have any problem with growth. What can I do to achieve growth on my crown area
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 2 жыл бұрын
Ahh…good to hear you enjoyed it and you’re welcome! 🤗 For some people, that could simply be down to genetics, especially as we get older. But if that isn’t the case for you, then make sure you’re avoiding any styles that could be creating tension. Also, keep it moisturised and do some scalp massages using stimulating oils like; Rosemary, Lavender, Peppermint (mixed with carrier oils) and also look into Ayurvedic herbs too.

I love your hair. My natural hair is in a growing state but its also shedding a little when I twist it up every night. Not much but I just got my regimen down pack. But its growing so I cant complain.I'm going to start doing black tea rinses. I was told this will stop the shedding. Whats your advice.
@Growwithglo
@Growwithglo 2 жыл бұрын
Is it shedding more than the regular 50-100 strands it does daily? The black tea rinses will help excess shedding but your hair naturally sheds as long as it isn’t breakage you’re fine.
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you ☺️ If the shedding is minimal, I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but it can last a good few months before it returns back to normal. But yes, you can definitely give black tea rinses a try. I tried it when I was going through postpartum shedding with my 3rd child and found that it helped. I’ve got a video on how I make mine, if you wanna check it out; kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqjFgKado9ate68

So beautiful...I love it. Is it good to blow dry hair? Also, what might be the reason for stagnant growth in hair? Thanks
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes it’s ok, just as long as it’s not too frequent and that you use a heat protectant and are careful with the temperature levels. But stagnant growth can be down to diet, not drinking enough water, hormonal imbalances, age, stress etc

I dont know if I'm low porosity or high porosity I've taken the test I'm not sure about the results. Can you be in between? lol What I did notice is that my hair likes lighter products opposed to thicker products. So I've started using much lighter products and my afro is thick and soft and nicely defined and more manageable.
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s totally possible to have a variety of different porosity levels throughout your hair. 😄 The tests aren’t always 💯 accurate, so another good way to figure it out is just by adding products to your hair and seeing how it responds. If products sit on top of your hair, then it’s likely you have low porosity, if it sinks into your hair and the moisture lasts for a day or longer it’s normal porosity and if your hair is always dry no matter what you do, then it’s likely to be high porosity.

I washed my hair yesterday and did a black tea rinse. OMG I feel the difference as far as my itchy scalp. It doesn't itch a much, I guess the More I do these rinses the less shedding I will see. Can I do a black tea rinse every week after washing my hair? Will it damage my hair if I do it every week? Thanks
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 2 жыл бұрын
Amazing! 🙌🏾 Good to hear it’s helped in some way. No, I wouldn’t recommend doing it weekly, cos it’s very drying to the hair. So once or twice a month is better and yes, you’ll see results the more you do it!

Hello am Diane my hair is natural n anytime i braid my hair the front hairs doesn't grow so don't whether to stop braids am confused n u see the front hair is what makes the beauty of the hair as for my back hair it grows even faster than my front hair n anytime i take off my hair n braid my own hair my front hair grows a Little but after i remove my braids it shreds am confused n don't know what to do
@HealthyAfroHair
@HealthyAfroHair 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Diane, I’m a little confused as to whether the braids are helping you to retain length or causing it to break, because you’ve said it does both. Have you ever tried doing mini twists? Maybe you should give it a try. It’s a great low maintenance style that will allow you to wear your own hair, without having to manipulate it much. Just a suggestion.

Ohk i hv been doing mini twist some times but i started my natural journey in 2016 n am expecting my hair to be fuller and plenty but it is not lyk i expected it to be. n before i conclude i used to use alot of heat on my hair till i realize it wasn't helping in 2020 dat was wen I stop using heat on my hair n my hair became very thick n now as am speaking to u is very thick dat i can't even comb my hair.my problem is my hair is growing longer without volume or it's becoming fuller n de beauty of natural hair is not seen in it longness but rather its becoming fuller.so because of that i can't really do styles with my natural hair n it really bores me n also i wasnt trimming my ends from 2016 still i started in 2020 so i experience alot of shredding anytime i combed my hair still i was told not comb my hair in a dry state so please how do i make my hair fuller please help me please
