Still team finger detangle. It is helps so much with length retention. I can’t go back to using tools regularly.
@michelleeja4122 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I'm aghast at how many videos I see of people detangling with a brush! I feel sorry for newcomers who are trying to figure out THEIR natural hair journey. I cringe to think they will use brushes to detangle their hair. It's so misleading, but commerce, revenue and business is a tricky thing on this platform. So deception looks like truth and truth looks like a lie. Brushes and combs are mechanical tools that cannot detangle hair, they BREAK-THRU the knots. Only your fingers can physically detect and feel the knot to detangle. And that's the TRUTH.
@SheReaDelSol2 жыл бұрын
@@michelleeja412 Well that’s certainly your truth. Some people have resilient hair/thick strands that aren’t as easily broken. Everyone’s hair is different. I’m not in the business of saying someone else’s way is wrong just because it’s not my way.
@michelleeja4122 жыл бұрын
@@SheReaDelSol I agree 👍 💯 some people hair diameter or strand of hair can be thicker and more resilient. For example hair individual strands can range from fine to thick. And density is the same depending on how many hair strands of hair are on the head. My point is only that our FINGERS CAN DETANGLE and not mechanical tools. It's physically impossible for that tool to isolate and unwind the knot.
@tsuyuasui72972 жыл бұрын
@@michelleeja412 huh? but i use wide tooth combs and sometimes brushes to detangle my hair and it’s growing fine and retaining length too, finger detangling doesn’t work for me.
@michelleeja4122 жыл бұрын
@@tsuyuasui7297 Again my point is comb or brushes cannot detangle a knot. NOW I understand if conditioner is applied and creates slippage, the hair strands are more pliant. The hair is expanded, therefore it allows the mechanical tool to glide thru it and remove shedded hair. That's NOT the same as detangling a knot, it just separating individual hair strands. BUT if there is a KNOT you cannot UNWIND it with a mechanical tool. All you can do is BREAK-THRU IT. Some ladies have alot of hair on their head or thicker diameter of hair and are cool with it. But you have some saying that they have noticed thinning and or breakage due to combs or brushes. Listen, it's everyone choice to do whatever they want and what works for their hair.

I have tried finger detangling a few times. I can never get my fingers to run through my hair and I lose so much hair trying. Plus after my finger detangling, when I use a very wide-toothed comb, there are still tangles. So in my mind, I am not comfortable until something (finger or comb) is able to go through my sections tangle-free. A wide toothed comb works for me.
@amb74122 жыл бұрын
Juanita you might have my type of hair: it's thin and fine and tangle prone. I'm unable to finger comb completely, but I get as far as I can with my fingers then I use a small tooth comb to breakup the tangles with water. Once I can gently pull the strands apart i will continue with my fingers. Maybe give this a try and see if it works for you. Good luck.

I wouldn't trust a friend or a so called professional I've been burned by both several times. But, I notice my hair has always thrived and grown under my care not theirs just like yours. Olaplex is not a protein. It works at a chemical level to re-bond cleaved or broken disulfide bonds. It's a bonder. With that being said, I personally found the conditioner to be very drying on my afro-textured hair. I only use Olaplex No. 0 and No.3 myself. Your hair is gorgeous as always. I've been finger detangling since I was a little girl. I am tenderheaded and started doing it out of necessity. Regarding straightening your hair, the key thing is to remove the petroleum or grease from the hair. That usually takes more than one wash and usually more than one day. What I mean is that to remove the oil you may need to wash the hair and use a very light conditioner like Suave or Vo5. Then put hair in braids or bantus and let the hair dry. Do not add any leave in products. Then, repeat the process again the next day, over 1 to 2 days. I consider this a type of prep and plan accordingly when I want straighten my hair. So, you may need about 2 to 3 days of this preparation of washing and light conditioning prior to the day you plan to straighten. A professional stylist can usually get the oil out in one wash. But I need a couple of washes to do it myself. It does take trial and error and practice. If you can master gaining that magnificent length and health that you have, you can learn to straighten your hair safely and beautifully. But there will always the ever present risk and possiblity of heat damage.

I have the same kinky hair texture..4b. My scalp also tends to itch...I think oiling it before washing would help. That's if u still want to also treat ur scalp. It does look white and patchy. My scalp also tends to look like that as well when I part it and examine it. I'm also the same way how I don't like strangers or anyone touch my hair. Last time I visited a salon in 2014 and the lady tried to blowdry me "bone straight" after a shampoo and my hair was falling out and zig zagged. Girl I had to get an appointment at a barber and cut my hair back to a damn afro. 😐😩 I vowed if a regular shampoo and dry got me back to square one AND I paid...never again. I'd rather buy a wig if going to an event then meh

Finger detangling does give me more definition when I apply products. After I comb it, my hair loses definition 🤷🏽♀️👍🏾

Sis try different things but don't cause your hair to break off bc of it 😭 bc sometimes when you fall down the route of experimenting before you know it your hair has broke off 🤣😭😭😭

Do you put the grease on dry hair or wet it first? I'm thinking of trying this!

I used to finger detangle when my hair was shorter, but I found that it just takes too long. The longer my hair got the more time it took to detangle so I switched to using a detangling brush instead and I haven't looked back. I don't have hours to dedicate to a task that can be done in 10 - 15 minutes.

I think the “definition” might have to do with smoothing the hair (and the curls) while clumping it with other strands. I have two combs, a wide tooth and finer tooth comb. If I comb my hair with the wide tooth, my hair will look more puffy. If I use the fine tooth comb, then I get way more definition and the curl seemed stronger (shrinks right back to the scalp). I am thinking the principle might be the same

Interesting 🤔, but it makes allot of sense

Smoothing with tension. The fine tooth adds more tension or pull, so the recoil is stronger.

After switching to finger detangling my hair stopped breaking. But now I have to cut it more often because it just keeps growing.

Will it cause irritation?

I think my scalp is just sensitive, the Aloe Vera makes it extremely itchy. I like it for my hair but not my scalp.

I always wonder why my twists/braids feel so dry and crusty . But when I take them down My hair will feel still have some moisture. I guess something with the cuticles maybe.

Sometimes my hair feels dry on the outside when I 1.) rub my half against cloth such as like hoodies or bedsheets, 2.) when my hair I constantly exposed to the light (the sun) or 3.) when I use more oil than cream
