I am so tired of explaining this. I even had to explain this in cosmetology school to a white instructor 🙄 There was even a time where i had to prevent them from damaging some poor girl’s hair because they couldn’t understand that it’s possible for people with kinky hair to also have fine hair. She was using a coarse relaxer on her fine hair just because it’s extremely kinky. Anyway... Thank You for this video!

Thank you, Miss Cyn. I'm an irish frizz white girl, and my whole life my hair has been destroyed by ignorance. Now that it's natural, it's fine, and has straight, curl, and coil in it. Natural it's delicate, and will break or burn easily. I had no idea. My mother gave me perms when I was a tiny child, and my hair never responded well. I was told I had straight hair. Nope. I had abused hair. As a broke grown up I finally stopped perming, and stopped brushing it straight, and started combing it and crunching it wet with decent product. I wash my hair about every 10 days or so, and start curly on day one, and braid, bun, or low heat press by day 7 or so. Florida humidity taught me most of what I do about styling.
@virginiamontaldo4402 жыл бұрын
I am Italian and have a similar story...no hairdresser I went to ever told me that the frizzy halo around my head were actually dehydrated de-proteinated curls. I learned from black hair youtube. When I asked hairdressers how to bring out the curls (because I had them as a baby and my relatives do so I knew I could probably make them appear again) they used a diffuser on me, which did nothing, thus making me think my hair must have changed from my childhood, but it didn't. They have no idea how to treat anything that is not straight or straightened, and then make fake, heat curls damaging hair...also I now wash my hair anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks instead of every 3 days, but with 'refreshers' - I am high porosity, low sebum production so I like water and efficient moisturizers but not frequent shampoos as they take out too much sebum. The most efficient way I've found to describe my hair is vata type from ayurveda (aka Einstein hair), my hair is pretty much pure vata. According to Walker's system it's mostly 2b-c with some 3a but this classification alone doesn't mean much, my sister has a similar classification but her hair looks and behaves much differently (lower porosity, lower density, much more easily defined waves/curls , looks like a totally different head and needs different products).

I love you. PLEASE SAY IT AGAIN!!! I have always been able to grow my kinky hair LONG. I first learned of this ability with my permed hair. However, in 2009, I wanted to be a natural black beauty so I did the big chop. It wasn't easy because since the 6th grade perms were all I knew. This was definitely a new type of playing field. I truly did not know this hair, it was almost foreign to me. I started this journey with ignorance because I thought it would be a simple task. Oh how I was so very wrong. Over the years and after 3 big chops, my beauty very coily hair and I are in love. I wanted it to be more like my permed hair while it was so desperately trying to gain my affection as it was. Today, I know that my hair has it's own voice to whom I now allow it to guide me for its needs. I must say I'm a bit old school though. Our mothers managed to grow our hair to great lengths as children, so I keep mine in 4 thick plates until I need an actual style. By listening, touch and learning I now my hair is high porosity, my density is thick, it's very coily, it loves moisture and heated conditioning, it doesn't care to much for proteins only when needed. I just recently flat ironed it to do a really good trim. I cut off anywhere from a half to an inch, learned how from watching my stylist layer my permed hair. Cut hair grows back and more. To my surprise my natural hairs length is almost mid-back, wow. I use the camille rose line and lawd my hair loves it. I have also discontinued using chemical dyes, I now use henna and this is amazing. It have my hair new life and the thickness has tripled literally. I wish we could upload pictures to these comments 😊. Again thank for all that you do.

@@nataliestevenson3621 try the "greenhouse method". I have low porosity hair. You can spray a little water on the hair and place a plastic cap on and allow body heat to penetrate the hair. I do it whenever it feels a bit dry. Also, thin oils are good for sealing low porosity hair.

Fine texture, high density, high porosity, high shrinkage, mixture of tight curls, waves, and coils. Simple regimen: Sulfate free shampoo, conditioner, leave in, gel, creams or foams. Butters weigh my hair down. Cool water rinse. Protective styles work best for me because my ends snap so easily. Thank you for educating us on this. I knew this already from school. As someone who has grown tired of the constant hair typing throughout social media, it is so refreshing to have someone give the clear facts on the issue! While I never paid any prolonged amount of attention to hair typing, I did get annoyed at the fact that it seemed to be the main focus instead of just the health of the hair and common sense ways to care for it(the basics). Thank you for such an informative and SO necessary video! I truly hope people listen & take note, I know I did.

This is an awesome video!! I agree 100% with you. I am not a hair professional, but I read & educate myself regarding what is true about hair & what is not. Also being a health professional for many decades, I do know & understand the anatomy & physiology of the skin / scalp & out growths such as hair. When the hair type chart first came out I knew early on that it could not be reliable. I personally had a very hard time placing myself in a category. I find that most people seem to have several textures/ curl patterns on their individual heads. I have 3 different diameters curls in different places on my scalp. It is a loose curl @ the front & sides, but gets progressively smaller in diameter & a tighter curl as you move backwards on my head. My hair has always been soft & healthy, even when it was permed. I was told that I have normal porosity, but I will now check that out for myself. I have now been natural for 11 years & I guess I was lucky enough to choose the right products for my hair. However, most of the time choosing products was based recommendations or it was simply a guessing game,until now. Your methods point to what is most important about hair & that knowledge makes choosing products more deliberate rather than a guessing game. This is a true method for healthy hair & growth retention. I thank you for being humble & kind enough to share your expertise with us. Your information will help save countless people from experiencing unnecessary damage, hair loss & very bad hair days In addition, you are helping us to save money by not wasting it on products we don’t need & should not use. Please continue these video tutorials, they are invaluable!! I pray that you & your family receive many blessings & even greater success today & in the future.

I remembered asking my hair dresser if I was a 4A and she was like bye girl.. she's been doing my hair for years and has kept it always healthy. I've had ppl think it's a wig. I am now natural and its still very healthy. I grew up with my aunt who had her salon for 40 years. Folks loved her and I remember being in the shop and her teaching the other stylist about the science of hair. I learned a lot by watching. She loved using a round brush too. I remember her telling me it's in the wrist and you can do it so well to where it will have a curl. Thank you for teaching us..old school hair lessons are still needed.

Straight up. Forget the hell raisers that comment negatively on other videos. I had a brain injury and went natural because my cousin moved away to New York an she is just like you. I stop letting these uneducated stylist who love spritz and do every bodies hair the same. It's very discouraging. They have no concern an never go in depth to counsel there clients.. I'm still in recovery for a brain and spinal injury an all the medicines cause severe dryness, fall out by and more. I used infused herbs and grew my hair back. I want to gain more density, strengthen and healthy hair. I changed diet.

It also leads me to believe that many stylists are not educated or don't know their material because I have never had anyone discuss this with me and many times I have left the salon with my hair too straight with no body! Cyn Doll is great. As a long-time naturalist I can tell she is recently trying to get deeper into natural hair knowledge. Natural hair knowledge and what is learned in cosmetology school does not always mesh perfectly because European hair standards are used in school. I understand completely where she's getting at. She will find the balance soon. No tiny combs for detangling, and yes, wet our hair when doing it (unlike for European hair as taught in cosmetology school).

Thank you so much for this breakdown. I've never had an understanding of my fussy, curly hair and it's been the bane of my existence for nearly 50 years! I've struggled with the worst frizzing ever, inability to have any style because my hair holds none, straight only lasting a day because I can't figure it out, can't use oil when straight because it weighs it down then looks dirty, hair sucking up oil when it's curly and still looking dry, and anything else on the hair frustration complaint chart. I've learned a lot from this video and now it's time to learn how to manage this mess! New subbie!!

Can you do a video explaining how to figure out the density and diameter of hair? Can you also explain the importance of those things and tips for each type to help grow. Thank you so much for this video I've heard about porosity before but the way you explained it was very informative and easy to understand. I have my hair floating in a glass right now lol.

Thank you for this girl!!! I’ve been so damn confused bout my own damn hair for so long! Like the curl pattern chart helped me a little but this helps me understand way more cuz my hair is just all over the place. Shoot I’m curly but high porosity due to bleaching and then protein sensitive all at the same damn time. Heavy oils weigh my hair down while not washing my scalp enough dries me out and gives me flakes instead of getting oily. This video is a gem 💎

You explained it very well. I've learned so much from you and when I go to hair salon and tell them exactly what I want they look at me like I'm crazy and that's when I walk out. Its really hard to find a hair stylist but I thank you for all information you've given. most appreciated.

Well just come in through, & flip the table in the Temple!! HALLELUJAH, I been DELIVRT from that idiotic chart! Now I can go back to paying more attention to the porosity than the danged curl patterns, bc I swear there's at LEAST six on this head! Try finding products based on that mix- hit or miss everytime. Thanks for explaining why my hair luved silicon mix products, but hated tea tree! Would appreciate it if you would consider for a future vid showing HOW TO DEAL WITH HIGH (70%+) HUMIDITY! It's especially challenging with high porosity hair! Thanks in advance! Hi to Mama & the hubby!
