@ShaniqueBuntyn I did a big chop since April. I found out I have low porosity hair that is thick. However, when I use certain products they tend to sit on my hair. For example, my hair doesn’t like castor oil because it slides right out. Also, when I put my moisturizer in my hair after a few hours it becomes dry, hard,& it’ll shrink. What can I do stop the dryness?

I didnt think it was a thing either. It's HARD for my hair to get moisture back into it after I wash it..by about the 2nd or 3rd day my hair starts finally accepting moisture. So naturally I kept adding moisture and stayed away from protein for years! Then I got hygral fatigue 😭. I finally put a protein conditioner in my head with hydrolyzed protein for the first time recently. My curls were POPPING, super defined and bouncy, and my hair actually absorbed moisture better O_o. But I think I am medium porosity or a mixture of both lol. Once the mositure gets in, it gets stuck inside the strands like the other person said, until you use a protein to help balance it out and make it "more thirsty" for moisture so your hair will drink it up. At least that was my case 💀. But I also used heat with my protein conditioner to open my cuticles so it could work better.

This has opened my eyes. I’ve heard of porosity years ago, but really all the YT gurus were always saying one thing or the other was the ‘secret’ for hair growth or curl definition and whatnot, so I tuned it all out. I would buy the products majority of black girls raved about ensuring it was a safe bet. It didn’t occur to me until this video that we all have very different hair. Even if someone has 4c hair, it doesn’t mean the products they use will be the same on my head…ugh all those wasted products I bought. I’ll have to throw them out because it’s useless to use them now. But now when I buy something, I’ll be checking first the type of hair it benefits. Thanks so much!

I’m a guy who has been growing my hair for 5 months after being a waver all my life. Learning all this on my own has been great. Your channel is so informative. My hair is about 4-5 inches. My nieces, sisters, and girl cousins are amazed. They are trying to say my hair isn’t 4C now lol. It’s def 4C Low Porosity. They ask me about my hair and some of them didnt know what porosity meant. I told them I’d probably never get braids because of edge damage and to them it doesn’t matter. I deep condition weekly and do all the things you say. They thought it was too much. Of course to me it does matter. I have very strong edges. It’s crazy. I thought all women knew about hair. Women have such unhealthy practices. I wish natural hair was more loved. Most of my family have very unhealthy hair practices. My nieces don’t only because I pay for most all their hair and discourage them from doing damage to their hair/scalp. Thank you so much for your videos. My hair thanks you.

We definitely don't know alot about our hair because even in hair school they don't teach us about "black ppl hair" I've literally been learning how to care for hair through KZbin. It's very time consuming, that's y most of us wear wigs & braids but it's still important to take care of our natural hair.
@Tay-cg1pt2 жыл бұрын
We don’t/didn’t have healthy hair practices because the majority of us live in western countries that discriminated against us wearing our hair natural. Some mothers still kept healthy practices alive regardless, and some moms conformed. That’s the whole point of this continuous hair revolution, we’re getting back to our original blueprint ❤ naturally some women may not care to join this because it does take a lot of time to learn apply and buy. It would have been easier if we knew this since birth but unfortunately for a number of us, we didn’t.

YESSSSSSSS! Finally, a very knowledgeable video. I've learned alot. I have been watching dozens of videos about porosity, wash day, conditioning etc. Before I knew my porosity I applied protein treatments with the famous aloe vera leaf, yadda yadda yadda. Omg! My hair hates it and now its destroyed with protein overload. It's super dry and brittle. Of course hair loss. Now that I have watched several protein overload videos I am trying to nurse my hair back to health. With that being said, I was trying to find protein free shampoo and conditioners which is extremely difficult to find. Many products say natural but they still have some sort of protein. What stood out for me is when you said silk, wheat, and hydrolyzed protein is good for low porosity. Another thing that stood out is when you said wash and condition with warm water. I've seen videos that said wash with cold then rinse with warm. So, thank you. The light to medium cream vs thicker butters was very helpful. Just a side note: my hair don't well with many Cream of Nature or Shae Moisture products. It loves Design Essential products. Oh, your explanation if the LCO method was helpful. Now, I have a new wash day regime. I think you helped save my hair!

though this might be surprising but: I have straight, thick black hair that is extremely low in porosity. water sits in drops on my hair and doesn't go in. especially when I drag up my hair against the growth direction its squeaks really loudly. that out of the way, black girls and their haircare routines finally showed me what hasnt been working with my normal products. even though I always invested high quality shampoos, conditioners etc. my hair would turn out fucking brittle and dry UNLESS I used heat to style it. I had no idea back then why this was the case, especially because my hair and scalp are healthy so I thought that that's just how it was. people had told me that since I have straight hair, I shouldn't be using "the heavy" products curly girls are using, so I avoided it obviously. recently, it clicked. I got a good cleansing shampoo and then a really really hydrating shampoo that I use one after the other, respectively. then I use a moisturizing mask with glycerin and honey instead of a conditioner. after that I use a heavy leave in detangler. so that everything doesn't sit on top of my hair shaft, I use mild heat (Dyson warm-air hair comb) to dry my hair... and... no build-up, no weighing down the hair and NO freaking frizz! hair is soft, moisturized and overall plump. so thanks to you and dozens of other youtubers like you, I also managed to figure my hair out. lots of love

Thanks this is great! I’d like to point out that porosity can change over time due to how we handle our hair. For example I’m low porosity now (and probably always been) BUT during my “sleep with deep conditoner” phase I got hygral fatigue like a mug 😅🫢 Had to do a protein injection! Color, hard water, etc can also affect it!

The moment I stopped using protein treatments my hair improved. The only time I do it is when my hairdresser does it. Other than I I don't touch it. Right now I'm at a length plateau. I've also started incorporating steaming between wash days for when I'm adjusting my styles and such. It's still new, so we'll see how it goes.

I 100% agree with not working on soaking wet hair. I dampen it literally just enough!

Just discovered that neutrogena anti-residue shampoo and it..is…amazing!!! Gets everything out and literally squeaky clean for a clean slate after anything I do to my hair. Clean and NOT dry at all

use a hair humidifier much different results. Than using a heated dryer or hot oil treatment. Low porosity hair the cuticles are blocked. Not allowing products to be absorbed. Using a hair humidifier opens the cuticles. It’s like using a neti pot or steamer to unclog your nose. Heat alone isn’t going to work you eve tried unclogging your nose with heat or warmth it’s not as affective as using steam moisture is what helps to open the cuticle.

I am glad I listen to your video. I had been natural from 2005 and my hair just reach little below my shoulders. I am a low porosity like you. I mostly try to use aloe Vera, oats, eggs and avocado to give my hair a stream. I boil water and throw it on my cloves and rosemary cover for about an hour, then I used that water for my spray water. I also use vaseline hair tonic oil in my hair regularly, because my hair gets dry quickly, by two days and I put leave-in-conditioner wherever I wash. I don’t wash every week, sometimes I wash, three weeks or four. I would love my hair to grow stronger and also had some body with it. Please help me.

Instead of adding more oils or creams throughout the week what I find works for me is to just spray with water. I water my hair like a plant. I dont put oil or anything in it. Just damp it do not submerge.

Thank you so much! ❤️ I either find one that has way to much protein or just doesn’t do anything for my hair.

If you are new to deep conditioning try TGIN honey miracle mask. Then you can try anything from honeys handmade. I especially enjoy the just a minute deep conditioners from honey’s handmade. TGIN is moisturizing only no protein at all. Honey’s handmade has a mix of protein, moisture and balanced deep conditioners.

Hello, amazing video, very helpful, especially for someone like me who's getting familiar with my porosity. So I've been using leave in conditioner in place of cream in the LCO method. Is that wrong? Also, which creams do you recommend. Thank you 😊

Queen Helen cholesterol worked on my hair when it was permed but not once I went natural .

Queen Helene Cholesterol has to be diluted with water, stirred thoroughly, heated and applied. I have low porosity hair. I would use it before braids to prevent breakage.

I got low porosity hair & my hair likes the Queen Helene product. Maybe it’s your hair type but then again I got the one for really damaged hair and the product is thick. Also, my hair isn’t as thick as 4C hair but it’s still low porosity. I think you hair to get the right product depending on how thick or thin your hair is as well.
