I know I’m late but the detolf was the only suitable cage my mom would let me get lol. It was the cheapest option and I’m getting it soon. This will be my first hamster! I was going to do a bin cage, but my dad said it looked to crappy. My mom was adamant that she had to get the kallax (a storage unit from ikea that the detolf fits perfectly on). I just have to get rid of my old doll house to fit it I’m my pet room. Lol!

So cute! The log with the swing is absolutely adorable! I love the little HAM heart carving. It doesn’t make me think of the ham you eat, lol. It looks like she carved it herself to let everyone know that she loves her home. I wish we had bags of dried grasses available here in the US. I tried dyeing some oat spray green with food color but it wouldn’t hold the color. That’s one reason why I made paper flowers and grass. Thank you for linking my tutorial. Creampuff is an adorable name. I’m sure she is very happy in her lovely woodland home :)

i think the houses might be a bit too small for her maybe that's why shes not using them... love the cage! the log with the swing is magical!

Thank you :) You may be right with the houses, she will go in them but doesn't sleep in them. It may be because it doesn't have enough room for her and all of her hoarded food, I'll look out for some bigger houses :)

I have a cave to my hamster that you usually find with reptiles- my little Turbo loves it, and so does my gerbils that also has a reptile cave as a sandbath 💕

She looks so much like my ham I got from Pets at Home in Battersea recently! She also liked to sleep behind her wheel or upturn the houses I got for her until I got her a pretty big one. She’s a chunky fur baby!!

i was wondering how you would make a detolf lid for a Syrian hamster with the 12inch silent spinner? would really appreciate the help x

Hiya, when I had one before, I made the lid in a similar way to this one (just made a wooden frame and stapled mesh on) but I put another layer of wood on the bottom of the frame so the mesh was higher up and the wheel could fit underneath. I hope that makes sense, it's really hard to describe x

Hey can you tell me how the Trixie wheel worked out for you? I just adopted a baby Syrian (4weeks) and he just seems way to tiny atm for the silent runner I have. Can you tell me if a dwarf size hamster would work ok with the Trixie? My baby is the size of a dwarf right now maybe slightly longer. Thankyou!

Hi, yes you could use a smaller wheel for a smaller hamster, you will just have to upgrade it as he grows. Be careful with dwarf wheels as a lot of wheels marketed at dwarves are too small for them. For dwarves I have owned previously I used 6.5 inch wheels for them. Whatever species, the aim is that they won’t have to arch their back as they run. The Trixie wheel I have found to be a bit noisy and it’s not very high up off the base so wouldn’t work very well with deep substrate, other than that it has been working out well so far. TheSmallPetShop ahhh thanks for the tip! My little guy has nearly doubled in size in the week since I wrote the last comment! He’s using his Silent runner just fine. If you are ever willing to spend the money (they’re so expensive) the Silent runner is really Silent! I’m still not used to not hearing my hamster running on his wheel all night! 😆

Such I Nice video I love your hamster! He is so cute! I have 2 Syrians. I Used to have a ikea detolf for my Syrian but since we moved house we had to downgrade her to a metro hamster heaven cage. Its still big enough but we miss the ikea detolf.

My baby dwarf hamsters are sooooo picky. With their basic seed diet aswell. I only give them 3 tablespoons in their bowl and wait until it’s pretty much gone now. Used to empty and refill everyday but then they stash and never eat it. I make them a big salad bowl everyday and they’re so picky and barely touch it, I downsized it so I don’t put much in there and they still barely touch it lmao. I give them - Kale Romaine Spinach Carrots Green belle pepper I want to start on blueberries and small fruits but they’re babies so I feel it would be far too much sugar for right now. It depends what I have in the house, sometimes I’ll give cucumbers and broccoli etc. baby animals are super picky 😩

You may already have a new feed in mind but might I suggest the Science Selective branding, it’s vet recommended and I feed it to my rabbits and chinchillas and used to feed it to my guinea pigs as well. They do feed for all sorts of small pet from Degu, mouse and hamster too. It’s one shape and one colour and very healthy.

Don’t use hay for your hamster it will try to put it in its mouth and hurt him self by cutting the cheek open... !!!

You have to use a type of hay that is softer and it helps keep burrows stable. Usually they don't try to eat it or they might nibble on it. Its safe for hamsters
