Today's video is a small update on my Koi. Three years ago I put the Koi in this natural pond that has no liner, no pumps, no filters, no ventilation. I built it a while ago and you can find videos on that on my channel. The Koi have evolved magnificently after I had basically freed them out of a very small private pond. The animals grew a lot in this pond even though they were already several years old at the time I go them. Now apparently they feel quite well and the Koi are spawning this summer. Heavy rains led to a raise of the water level in the pond of about 8 inch. The resulting shallow water zones are now used by the fish to spawn. The Yamabuki female keeps swimming up to the vegetation zone followed by the smaller Platinum ogon male. I am able to watch them pretty closely without disturbing them as they focus on their mission. It's been the second day of spawning now and they seem little stressed out from the hard work. But it's still amazing to watch these animals in this nearly natural environment. I was able to find a couple of eggs. They are approximately 2 mm in size and are kind of glued to the plants. I wonder how many baby Koi will hatch and I will upload more video-updates soon. Since both Koi are monochrome metallic-colored the little Koi will most likely be single-colored as well, but we will see. As they will hatch and grow up in the natural environment and not in a sterile tank I hope and assume that they should be relatively resistant and healthy later. I am really excited about how many will survive and how they look like. I will keep you updated. You can find other pond videos and landscaping videos on my channel. For updates please don't forget to subscribe! Thanks for watching and I hope the video was interesting. Until next time, I'm Carl the landscape guy. #koispawning #fishbreeding #koikeeping

Hi. I have similar situation to you. My pond is very big, but its artificial with liner. But many years old, no filter or aeration. My koi spawn most years and some young grow up and I catch and sell the young when I get too many. I live in Thailand... so weather warm all year and they grow really quickly. They spawn in the overhanding vegetation and creeping plants that spread out in the shallow water around the edge of the pond.

Great update! I also have a natural pond but I mostly have goldfish in mine. I've introduced koi into my pond with very limited success. Only 2 out of 10 have ever lived longer than a week. I'm thinking the initial stress is very hard on them, but they do great if they make it past that first week.

I have a natural pond with turtles and bull frogs. I recently lost several fish due to them and or the heron and hawks that keep visiting. I put up 400 yards of 60 lb. test line kriss/cross the pond. Here I am hoping for the best.I do enjoy my koi but will not restock if this keeps up.

that's awesome, but the only drawback is the lack of control over the fry survival rates. you probably will lose some unique fry but the ones that do make it will either be the luckiest or strongest that being said you have a great pond with the unique capability of raising the levels higher for breeding, great job
