Aloha! Here's my natural newborn cloth diaper stash for my third baby! I am excited to cloth diaper and practice elimination communication from the newborn phase for a third time. This will also be my second time using wool diaper covers from birth. I tried to stick with mostly natural fibers for my cloth diaper stash. It includes wool diaper covers, cotton prefolds, flats, fitted diapers, and some newborn all-in-ones (AIOs).

@@stephanieblanco7055 GMD does have the white Workhorse fitted NB with snaps on sale right now! They are phasing out regular white and replacing with an organic white version.

@@ECpeesy thanks for the news. Also on the other comment, I would like to add that my favorite wool cover is the merino one from Engel, since it's so trim and isn't worn out with any felting. It's ironic because, at first, I thought it wasn't going to be of any use.

@@GazeboDweeb Wrapping prefolds or flats around my baby has been working well. Sometimes I use a Snappi and sometimes I just use the cover to hold the prefold in place.

This is perfectly timed for me. My husband and I are planning ahead for our first baby and I've known that I wanted to cloth diaper from the get-go, so it's really helpful to see exactly what volume of stuff a more experienced parent recommends. 🖤 I'm hoping to get as much secondhand as I can, but I did recently order some one size fitted diapers from Babeegreens along with a wool cover, which I'm very excited about.

Yay! Preparing for a baby is so much fun. It's also possible to get by with a smaller stash. For my 2nd baby we only had 4 newborn covers (3 wool and 1 polyester). It was enough for us since we also do EC. This time I'm excited to compare more options. 💜 Heidi

Currently TTC baby #2, definitely looking into wool to try with next baby as a newborn. My son (now potty trained) was and is still unfortunately allergic to wool 😢

Hi Heidi. My disana cover used to look like that. My baby crawls so they've felted/pilled and look so worn. There's also some staining. I'm sure I ruined it with really hot water when I started out washing wool.

Felting is bound to happen with a lot of wear and moving around. On the plus side, felting makes it more bulletproof (leak resistant). Washing on hot can also shrink/felt though too.

@@ECpeesy just some flats or prefolds for the newborn stage. I have a TON from 8 lbs on but... I'm fairly certain I'm having a tiny baby in June 2021.

With practicing EC, do you really only use doublers at night for that extra absorbency? Or do you use them during the day too, maybe when you are a little busy and might not be able to change a miss right away?

I needed to add doublers into the Thirsties AIOs, day or night. Now I'm sewing some doublers/boosters to use with thin flats during the day. Despite changing every time the diaper is wet, my baby seems to be a heavy wetter. And all the pee goes to one small area at the front of the diaper. It might be different with a girl and the wetness being more spread out.

Because he might be a heavy wetter with all the pee going to one spot, are you experiencing leaks? Or your covers just aren’t lasting as long bc they are being exposed to more pee? I am sorry for all of these questions. I know I should just wait for baby to come and see what I end up needing as I go, buuuut I really want to make one more GMD order before baby’s arrival 😝 and wondering what more to buy to be a little more prepapred. I am leaning towards the sherpa liners bc of the cheapness, but i know hemp is most likely much much better.

@@chelseakorte7173 The Thirsties AIOs started leaking, so I added hemp/cotton doublers from GMD to those. Love the hemp/cotton doublers. I'm now using them with some of my DIY snap in inserts because I never finshed sewing the doublers for those. My wool covers don't leak, but they get more damp than I would like when I don't use enough absorbency underneath. Then I have to air out the wool cover instead of just reusing it right away. And it needs to be lanolized more often. I have a baby boy and all the pee goes to the front 1/4 of the diaper, so that front part needs to be really absorbent, even though the rest of the diaper is dry.
