Baby Carrier - I have used the LILLEbaby carrier with all 4 of our kids and love it! amzn.to/3TsMDKB
Redmond REAL Salt - Salt is an essential part of our kitchen and we go through a lot of it. Redmond is our favorite source for high quality, mineral-rich salt. We typically stock up in bulk and buy their 25 lb. bags for the best value. Use code fromscratch for 15% off your Redmond order. glnk.io/oq72y/fromscratchfarm...
12 Qt. Stock Pot w/ Strainer - The exact stock pot and strainer combo we have is no longer in production, but this is the most comparable option we have found. We use it for SO many things in the kitchen including cheesemaking, rendering fats, soups, and much more. amzn.to/43X5AIZ

I love this! It's so funny that this popped into my emails today because I was doing my second water bath with mine this morning. I normally hate "giving tips" in other people's videos, but in this case I thought it might be helpful. I love that you feed your chickens the leftover chunks, but in case you don't have chickens or dogs to feed it to, and you want to get everything out of the suet, I use my immersion blender to break it all down into a liquid form. I get way more tallow for my own use that way. I just do it in short bursts so it doesn't get clogged full. Thank you so much for sharing!! 💕

It amazes me how I have never even heard of this method of making moisturizing products. At 61, I have been really into skincare my entire life, and the last 5 years my focus has been how to simplify and only use affordable products. I just could not use another heavy, glass jar of moisturizer (1.7 ounces) and have to discard or find a way to reuse the jar. I have also stopped wearing makeup, except for very special occasions, and that is a huge change for me (as I wore a full face of makeup for most of my life.) I have learned to love my skin~ Your beautiful skin is proof that these homemade products work!! PS All the money I used to spend on these products now goes to buying clothes and shoes for my five grandchildren!!!

Hi this is really cool, I was looking at this expensive skin care brand that mentioned they use (mineral salts) in their lotion, so I guess my question is does the salt ever stay in the tallow once it hardens? I’m wondering if Celtic salt would add more of those minerals for skin care :)
@FromScratchFarmstead
@FromScratchFarmstead Ай бұрын
That’s a good question! It definitely can’t hurt. I’m sure some of the salt would be present potentially adding trace minerals back in. Without testing it would be hard to know how much. Thanks for watching!

@fromscratchfarmstead, I just found your channel, thank you for sharing the gifts God gave you! I have a question, I've used the wet method about 7 times now, with salt and a few times with baking soda, my beef fat suit is still a bit smelly, not beefy smelling, just a smell....is it normal to still have a "smell" or should it be completely odorless? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated before I start making it into an infused tallow.
@FromScratchFarmstead
@FromScratchFarmstead Ай бұрын
Hi! Good question. I think having a slight smell would be normal and that once you mix it in with other ingredients in a salve or soap, you don't notice the smell. Sounds like you're doing a great job!! Thanks for watching!

So I am new to tallow and understanding how to make it, etc. But one question I have is you mentioned about getting the toxins and impurities out for skin care. With those toxins and impurities affect you when you make tallow for cooking because I’ve never noticed anyone rendering it this way for cooking. Is it OK With not taking the toxins out when you use it for cooking?

I followed this method exactly in a crockpot on low and my tallow still smells. Have done the process 7-8 times. Still a slight beefy smell. Is it ruined? Everyone online says theirs is odorless. Mine had a super strong smell even after 3-4 times. Its not as strong now, but still smells. Did I burn it? I added lots of water and put it on low every time so not sure how it could have burned...
@FromScratchFarmstead
@FromScratchFarmstead Ай бұрын
Definitely not ruined! I’m glad the smell went down overtime. I’ve found the smell can have more to do with type of cow/cows diet than anything else. I don’t think you burned it, especially if the smell has gotten better as you rendered it. Especially if a you add some essential oils to what you make with it, I don’t think it will be noticeable!
