Thank you for this. It was very informative. For someone who is about to dive into homeschooling I have been trying to wrap my mind about what exactly a nature journal is and if I really needed to add a nature study until to my home school. I've decided to go with the Charlotte Mason style as it just feels right for us. This is where I first heard about a nautre journaling and nature studies. I wasnt really sure about how to go about it. Some sites talked about adding it to the mornimg basket others talked out going out in the back yard to find a leaf or a bug to draw. There was never anything very specific. This cleared some things up for me, thanks.

I love the format of your videos, you sound like you have tv host training! I always appreciate that you show the inside of the books. Great quality video 👍🏼.

This video is so helpful, my kids love to be outside and I love that I’ll be able to incorporate that into homeschool.

Thanks for these great tips! Ive been wanting to incorporate some nature journaling into our homeschool (tho living in NYC, that’s a bit harder than in most places 😂). This video gave me lots of ideas so thanks!

We have done a freestyle nature study for two years! We love it! Usborne readers are awesome for this

I own the Julie Rothman books and we love them! 😍I really like teaching this subject to our homeschooling son...although it’s not really a subject to me since we love art. Thanks for the video!

At the end when the baby started crying I was like: “Oh, the baby just woke up, I should go and nurse him.” It took me until the end to realize it wasn’t my baby upstairs crying :P

We do a very eclectic style to homeschooling and I definitely would love to incorporate a nature notebook for my girl! Thanks for this amazing vid. (liked and subscribed :) ♡♡

We’ve done a freestyle nature study the past 4 years, and it’s worked well for us. We’re in the PNW and I’m a wimp in winter, so that season we do more reading about nature, or study ❄️. We love the Nature and Farm Anatomy books as well! I’ve toyed with the idea of getting an actual curriculum for nature study, but I don’t know that that works with my personality.😉

There are some great ones out there. The other one that looks cool is Raising Little Shoot's Exploring Nature with Children.

You'll need the handbook of nature study I show in the video to go along with it, but it's really well done. I don't think we are going to use the guided journals, I way prefer the beauty and flexibility of our own notebooks, but I love how simple the lessons are and how they are organized by season.

I love the idea and want to get into this more, but it’s not natural to me at all. So this was very helpful! 😊

Me neither. I am the sit inside and read a book kind of person, but I really enjoy it as well when we get into it.

Very helpful! We have several nature inspired books from Usborne that will compliment this type of activity perfectly. Thank you!

Me too! SO SO SO many Usborne books. The Big Outdoor Book is amazing, one of our absolute favorites. I should add it to the list. Not to mention the gardening books, the Q&A about nature, the young beginners forests, so many gooders.

YES! Our current favorite is "It all starts with a seed." I use to be a consultant so we have A TON! You can never have to many books though right! ;)

They now have "the handbook of nature" in colour, and divided into 8 smaller books so that they are easier to take out into nature.

Is Nature Journaling/Study considered to be an ADDITION to a science curriculum or a replacement?
@DeanneShoyer5 жыл бұрын
I love this. I just checked and the Julia Rothman books are at my local library so I've placed a hold on them to check them out as they look *gorgeous* My children are disabled and we live in a big city so I'm developing a bunch of resources for accessible nature journaling - financially accessible (not expensive!), able to do it wherever you live (you can even do some activities inside) and your kid doesn't need to be able to write or draw to fill a journal. Love if you or your followers want to visit my channel and check them out.

These are beautiful but be careful if you are Christian. These books teach evolution. We bought the ocean book. It's beautiful but very much teaches evolution. We wrote scripture in ours to change it. Otherwise these are beautiful books.

So strange to see the books go from beautiful illustrations of animals to the next books full of images of dismembering and cutting up animals. It is truly disturbing how we normalize and romanticize violence to animals...
