As a dedicated wildlife photographer, I often overlook capturing the many other wonderful opportunities nature can bring. There is no better time to spend time in nature than in the Autumn when all the amazing colours colours and fungi start to appear. This is especially true during these very difficult times we are all going through, so spending a couple of hours out in this wonderful birch woodland was just what I needed.
I hope you enjoy the sights and sounds of this video and if you can get outside in nature, even for only a short moment then it will go a long way in making you all feel a lot better. STAY SAFE and THANKS...
I hope you can subscribe to the channel, give the video a thumbs and hit that notification bell icon to be notified when I upload new content...

Holme Fen is a fabulous place to be, only been once, about a month ago, but will certainly be going back as it’s only an hour from me. Great images, see you couldn’t resist a shot of the lake. See you next time take care

Thanks Malcolm, it is a wonderful place especially at this time of year. Often a good place to see short eared owls in the winter.

Nice video. I am thinking about exchanging my macro lenses for the canon 100 so it’s nice to see some images taken with it.

Sometimes difficult to find suitable subjects! I find it best to take someone with me to spot them. In addition there has been a bit of a fad to pick the entire forest recently. Apparently there used to be a 1.5 kg limit but now its as much as you can eat yourself! Anyway great to see you found some suitable subjects. Enjoyed the pianist too great vlog!👍😍

Thanks for the comment Clive. Yes it made a change from the wildlife photography I tend to focus on but that's been extremely hard going of late so good to just get out and do something a bit different. Beautiful colours out there at the moment so good to enjoy them whilst we can. All the best.

Hey Simon! Looks like you had some FUN.... With the FUNGI..... OK, bad joke.... It looks of green and Fall like there. The calendar says it is Fall here, but it is so hot and dry here. Fall is my favorite time of the year and some of our Fall and Winter birds are starting to visit our yard so I think it should arrive soon... It's nice to see a change in the video great still images for sure! Sayin' hey.... Greg

Great film Simon, its nice to have a little bolthole that you can go and chill in for a few hours. Regarding your vlogging set-up, how do you rate the Osmo Action? I'm seriously considering scaling down my own vlogging kit from a bridge and go pro and this camera seems to tick all the boxes. 👍🏼🎥
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Simon. For vlogging I'm either using the Fujifilm XT3 or the Osmo action when I want to go very light weight. I'm very impressed with it. It doesn't do so well in low light as with most action cameras but I really like it. It's rocksteady stabilisation is awesome and has the front facing screen of course. If I want to do a video with broll and that shallow dof then I'll use the XT3 but generally the Osmo action suits me. I have brought another cage for it and an adaptor so I can connect an external mic to improve the sound. I can send you the info it helps. 👍

@@SimonWantling Cheers Simon, that'd be great if you could. I really like the idea of the external mic and the front screen. Thanks again

Nice Simon, funny, the leaf shot I took myself this morning whilst out photographing Red Deer, love the Autumnal colours.. Well deserved 5000k subs, should be 50000..
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy and yes the leaf shot was an obvious image to capture. It's now the background on my phone. 5k subs is nice and wish it was 50k. It's going up extremely slowly. Not sure if KZbin has changed their algorithms but just don't seem to get the reach I used to. I'll keep plugging away at it and I'm sure one day a video will fly 🙂 all the best..

Nice seeing you doing something different , great stuff. We're you taking jpgs? I thought white balance only works on jpgs? Look forward to next video
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. No I was shooting in RAW but sometimes I used Canons own DPP software sometimes which carries through the camera settings into the RAW processing. That's the only reason. It's also good to see it on the screen how you'd like it to come out in the final image. 👍

@@SimonWantling ah thanks Simon. I'm on nikon but just lightroom for editing. Think mine is just left on auto, but now might swap about to see what it looks like on screen. Cheers 😀
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 3 жыл бұрын
@@BullitTom yes of course RAW has no impact on white balance but I find it good to see the difference on the screen and cross check with what I'm seeing in front of me. 👍

Hi Simon. One of my favourite things to do at this time of year, walking around in a wood, looking for fungi. Something I enjoy doing alone, just me and my thoughts just enjoying the peace I never fall to find being in a wood. If I'm not mistaken, the scaly looking fungi is an Earthball. Either Common Earthball or Scaly Earthball. Just a quick question, what is the zoom lens you were using for most of your photos, please? I have photographed fungi for years and have always shot with my macro lens. Never thought of using a short zoom. Again, another enjoyable video.
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Peter and for the info on the fungi I showed. The lens I was using was the canon 24-70mm f4 which also has a macro feature built into it.
@peterbarby9251

@@SimonWantling thank you, Simon. I must admit that I was looking at that lense for a while. After some research, I chose the sigma 24-105mm A series lens. I'll be taking it out with me today (along with my macro lens). You've set me thinking though. Should I trade in my sigma lens... Anyways, keep up the good work, Simon

No problem Peter. I must admit I brought it sometime for landscapes when I went off to Iceland and didn't even realise it had a macro feature until I recorded this video 🙂 not a lens I have on the camera very often..
