As we are all still in lockdown, I continue to explore my local village in search of wildlife photography opportunities.
In this short video, I'm out at first light as part of my daily allowed exercise and was very surprised to find a good number of Hares which will be certainly be a future photography project.
I hope you enjoy this video and please keep well and stay safe.

Ha ha ha! 'I wish I'd brought the camera.....' Said this many times myself..... Thanks so much for continuing with the videos. Doubt you've realised this, but at this time - they really are a Public Service. My wife and I are key workers, so not exactly going stir crazy as we are still working. Your videos are brightening peoples days - making them look forward to when we get back to normality. I for one, won't forget this.

Thank you Nick. That's really very kind of you but honestly you're the ones providing a public service at this terrible time. If it helps keep you going then I will do my best to keep them coming. Hopefully with some images next time 😉

Hi Simon from down the Nene in Peterborough. I have been enjoying your vlogs recently including your back catalogue and by way of coincidence I suddenly realised when my BCN Wildlife Trust email came today that you were the winner in two consecutive years of their photo competition.Grebes and an owl in flight. Many congratulations!! I have also followed you on 500px, which is my home for sharing my work. I hope you capture those hares!

Hi David, thanks very much for you comment and great to find a local photographer. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Not finding it easy to get out at the moment given the situation but hoping to bring more to those who are house bound or can't get out into nature. Yes, I did win the BCN wildlife trust competition 2 years in a row which was great. I have the pleasure big judging it this year. 🙂

Hi Ben, thanks for your message. Shame you don't get to see them that much. Honestly, I don't see them often at all so was really nice to see a few today albeit no images. Nice to get out any way during this lockdown period. Hope you're ok anyway and keep safe..

Nice Simon. Like your area, there seems to be lots of hares around on my early morning walks too. I captured my best images just yesterday morning, ended up seeing 7 hares in my 1 hour walk, amazing stuff. Keep up the good work & stay safe.

Seeing the hares, hearing the birds, watching the sunrise, still a lot of beauty in a world of chaos right now. Thanks for sharing, reminds me to count my blessings. Stay safe and healthy Simon. Oh yeah, I'd love to have a dollar for every time I've said "I wish I would have brought my camera!" LOL

Thank you for the comment. Yes being outside photographing nature and wildlife is always something I'm very passionate about but especially during these difficult times, which I think the world will never be the same again, I've even more appreciation for it. People often say to me that they wished they had my camera and lens. Yes its very nice and I'm lucky to have it BUT, it's heavy after a while to lug around do not always something I want to bring on the off chance I might see a photo opportunity. Hence while most my photography is long term project based. 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to comment and stay safe and well..

I've seen a few hares recently. Its pretty terrifying watching them sneak around the fields being scoped by buzzards in the trees above.

Hi Simon, I just recently discovered your channel. It is impressive and highly informative! I know this question might be a long shot but would you consider upgrading to 1DXmk3 or would you rather jump to the mirrorless world and RF glass?
@SimonWantling
@SimonWantling 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment and finding the channel. Currently I'm using the 1DX Mark II and having looked at the specs of the mk3, I don't think it's that much of an upgrade from the MK2 so I won't be changing. I'm definitely waiting for canon to come out with a pro mirrorless which doesn't look like it'll be long. I think an equivalent 1DX mirrorless might be 3-4 years away as they generally release their new pro bodies around the Olympics. Canon will be releasing the R5 mirrorless which looks amazing so may look at that. Thanks again.

Great recce Simon, love photographing hares, if you sit quietly surprising how close they will come, better if you can interpret which way they plan on going as the eyesight pretty poor if head on, sideways they will clock you for sure, but hopping towards you is great!

Like you, I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by fields. I've been taking a Canon 7Dii with a Tamron 16-300mm lens on my daily walk. It's f6.3 at 300mm and a bit soft but I've got some nice pictures of field voles in the hedges and buzzards flying over head.

It's good to get out for a while and being near fields is a bonus. Glad you have managed to capture some images. The 7D ii is a great camera - I own one but for some reason rarely use it. Thanks for commenting and all the best.
