Thanks for the comment! ;-) Yes Robins lay blue eggs. I was surprised to find this one simply lying on the ground, I restored it to the nest! I hope it works out alright. The background music is of course Beethoven's 6th symphony (pastoral.) One of my favorite classical pieces; he intended it to evoke nature and the countryside so I thought it would fit. :-)

=( So the egg hatched but the chick died? That's a shame. I briefly considered trying to hatch it but thought better of it and found the nest. Had a very difficult time finding it, it was in a 20 foot tall and very dense holly tree (ouch!) I can't be 100% sure if I even put it in the right nest. The egg was about 4 feet away from where the nest was. But it definitely looks like a Robin nest, so I'm hoping for the best. ;-) Thanks for watching

"your musical tastes may be a bit more "refined" than mine" =P ha ha, well, I don't care, whatever floats peoples boats (as long as its not indecent.) Wasps can indeed be very beautiful! So many more varieties than the common yellow jackets and "hornets" people are used to. Blue/green, metallic, spider wasps, ichnuemons, etc... thanks for your nice comment (having trouble replying here....) >_> I'll see if I can look at your flickr account, should be good. =)

I'll probably post more bug/nature stuff at some point soon. My camera actually takes pretty good macro shots but you can hardly tell here because unfortunately, after getting the video all formatted and edited I discovered that the picture-in-picture effect I used only worked in low-res (380 by 480 or something) :-| Next time should be better

Actually it never hatched, so I'm assuming I didn't take care of it good enough. I didn't know what temperature to store it at so I put it under a high powered lamp. I tried to take very good care of it, was really sad when it didn't work out. I love nature and wildlife and animals in general, I could not bear to see them harmed and I still can't. I was really quite depressed after that egg didn't hatch...but perhaps it was never fertilized?

Yes it may well have been infertile so don't feel too bad. ;-) Chicks are extremely difficult to take care of so maybe it's better it didn't hatch in a way. Apparently the egg falling from the nest can kill the chick even if it doesn't break; also, you don't know how long it's been on the ground. They can't stay cold for very long. So it was probably nothing you did. ;-) For all I know, the parents may have gotten rid of a dud egg on purpose and are wondering how it got back in the nest. =P

When I was in junior high I found a robin's egg on the ground, couldn't locate the nest, so I tried to hatch it myself (ah...I was a crazy kid). Didn't work...the poor thing died. =(
