You can also eat dandelion leaves (the biggert variety) like salad! The Koreans call it Min-dul-lae (민들레). Tastes great with mixed greens (typically wrapped around meat with garlic and red-pepper paste). Yummy!

I can not wait until next spring. I made dandelion wine this year but I want to let the flavors sit longer. This next year I am going to get the root for coffee, and get the leaves and flowers for tea. I'm going to try making jam and putting dandelions in a jar and pour honey over and let it sit for 6 weeks. So much I have to do in the spring. They make good Christmas presents to. Giving a bit of sunshine to everyone during the winter months are the best presents I think.

hi Rick van man thank you for the great video. I would recommend that you steep the flowers in your metal cook pan and not add the hot water to the plastic container. when you add hot water to any plastic container or coffee cup it reaches out the plastic from the container. so if you have a plastic container the hot water leeches out what is called the plasticizer from the plastic. this makes some people very sick, but they don't know that that's the reason they're getting sick. Coffee cups styrofoam coffee cups plastic Chinese food containers comma with hot soup all Leach plasticizer from the container into the food you're eating. when I stopped doing this comma I stopped experiencing fibromyalgia. and other health problems.

I've never made wine with them. The leaves seem to be less bitter before they produce flowers and work well in salads and on sandwiches. Afterwards they are ok fried as they taste similar to mustard greens, stronger than spinach. The flowers make an edible garnish in salads. I have also battered and deep fried the flowers. They are similar to deep fried mushrooms with a slight bitter twinge. Just a few ideas I've tried myself.

Jack Mehoff They're fucking dandelions. Do you think people plant them in their yards every year before weeding them?
@DebiB627 жыл бұрын
You're very right Jack! Cherokees had a tradition of only picking one out of three plants so that they were sure not to over-forage the supply. For every flower that was picked here, that individual plant failed to go to seed. So "picking as much as you can" is not a good idea. We need to be responsible and good stewards of the resources we've been given, even in the wild.

Eat the leaves like spinach.. ..... 4 or 5 lb. bags of sugar.? ..... I make wine in a large crock with a cotton cloth cover..
@edwint.161310 жыл бұрын
Actually folks, if the wine isnt from your common wine grapes of "Vitis vinifera" everything else is called (in the U.S.) "Country Wine". Why is this so? Because "Vitis vinifera" has the correct amount of sugar (more than regular eating grapes) and tannins and acids to give a balanced taste after aging. No other fruit can replicate this. If other fruit are used,....... one must "ADD" these missing ingredients. If one decides to make wine other than the grapes spoken (Vitis vinifera) then one must add regular sugar and acid to make sure it ages correctly in order to taste decent. This is such the case with any "Country wine" or wine not made from "Vitis vinifera" However, if the goal is simply to make something "Alcoholic" then you can simply make anything that contains "Sugar" (Dandelion petals are one of them) But then again, if you wish to age your wine at least 1 standard year (which will make your wine taste better) you need a certain amount of alcohol and acid. To do this, you need at least 9 pounds of sugar to 5 gallons of any wine and a certain amount of citric acid for aging. However, if the goal is simply to drink it after a few months without a 1 year of aging, then, no sugar or citrus is really needed. (so there wont be a chance of spoilage) Spoilage occurs after fermentation of the wine is done. This is not set in stone however, since the old ways were of hit and miss. (sometimes it became wine, and sometimes it became vinegar) One must decide whether to use the "Old ways" or the "New ways". The newer ways following a more scientific methed and always bring the same product every time. Either way is your choice. Personally, I prefer the old way when making 1 gallon of "Country Wine" or less. Any more, or trying to make a business, you should use the "Scientific methods of wine making"

Be careful where you pick them from, since lawn and farm pesticides,fungicides and herbacides can stay in the soil for years. Also, try not to pick them near any roads, because all that lead gas that cars used to use decades ago, got into the soil near roadsides and is probably still there. If you can find a natural field in a place where foliage grows wild, that was probably left alone and never sprayed, then that would be ideal. Or near an organic farm.
