Rick I think one problem with diets youve had before is they’re pretty miserable having the same thing every day. That’s not to say you haven’t done well with them though, they’re just not really sustainable. I’m going to try to lose some weight myself once I’ve shaken off this flu. For me calorie counting works. It’s a nice challenge finding something filling with the least calories. I’ve found in the past Mango is really good for beating the sugar craving. It has little calories but satisfies the sweetness craving. Good luck with it Rick and all the best for 2025.

Morning Rick and a happy new year to you. We’re in Kenya for the new year😊. After doing a 4 day safari we are now by the beach for a few days. Woke up this morning and it’s raining like it was in Northampton before we left🤣. Never mind, it’s given me a chance to catch up up with my little KZbin “ bubble”. Is that the Oracle Jet coffee machine? I was looking at one before Christmas. A rep made me an espresso in John Lewis, the taste was unbelievably better than anything my bean to cup produces. Unfortunately mine refuses to pack up (done over 1100 coffees so far🤣🤦♂️) and I’m unwilling (or Suze, my sensible wife is) to splash out quite a lot on a new one while this one keeps going. Glad to see you’re looking well and happy. Ps I’m glad there are no scales in the hotel room as it’s all inclusive here🤣🤦♂️. ❤

Rick please, I have to insist, just do the one meal a day & have some carbs. And only have black coffee/tea or water throughout the day. Or have a beverage with milk when you eat. Honestly you’ll realise it’s much easier than eliminating or cutting carbs too much. Even have a cheat day with your McDonald’s if you struggle that much but do it as your 1 meal a day. Mid afternoon is the best time to eat . You can manage to go without in the mornings most people find. And just mentally fight off the cravings in the evenings to start knowing you have enough energy and how you won’t feel hungry in the morning when you wake up. It’s easier than you think, I’ve been doing it for nearly 3 years now and it’s amazing how it stabilises your blood sugar levels and insulin.

🌺🐞...from a fellow 'bubble dweller' to another....Happy New Year! Nice to see you again. I think that there are so many of us who have decided to turn off the news, chill at home, and remain calm by finding creative ways to enjoy our lives. My favorite KZbinrs have all decided to step back, self reflect, and await changes. I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling so contented and I see that is exactly where I am too, as well as so many. Jan Arden, Canadian singer/songwriter had this to say about New Years and I think it is so bang on..... "I am not a New Years person. I don't make resolutions. I don't go to wild parties or wait up til midnight to ring anything in. I don't blow blowers or dance or have a chocolate fondue (well maybe that one) I don't have any sort of desire to reset or restart or reboot. I honestly feel like every single day presents all of those opportunities. Anyone thinking that every hardship or difficulty or giant wall of adversity suddenly comes down because of some 'made up' start to another year would be fooling themselves. Tomorrow we will wake up into the same old world doing it's thing. You have a new chance EVERY SINGLE DAY to change your life. You don't need to write down a list of all the things you're going to alter and 'fix' because you're not good enough the way you are.... you'll simply make things harder on yourself. And whatever you do, don't throw "LOSE WEIGHT" onto that fucking pile. You'll make yourself more anxious, more sad, more down and more distant from your own heart. YOU ARE OKAY. You were okay this morning and you're going to be okay tonight at midnight. Life is a series of thousands and thousands of seemingly insignificant events. Life isn't a series of giant bangs. Turning points are exactly that...POINTS. 1. the tapered, sharp end of a tool, weapon, or other object. "the point of his dagger" Similar: tip sharp end tapered end end extremity prong spike tine nib barb You get my point. A point is a tiny thing, but it's also a big thing. I'm also NOT a planner. I feel like New Years resolutions are these micro plans that are basically like a person purposely putting hurtles in their path. Here's something I've vowed/promised/committed to doing just because the calendar has flipped into another year. Every day is the day to try again. To be better. To be kinder to yourself. To slowly and surely get to where you're going-which is something I could never have planned for in a million years. If you're prepared to fail, then you're already half way to getting what you want. It took me 25 years to quit drinking. I'm not kidding. I failed constantly, pretty much weekly. I didn't resolve to stop drinking. I just kept trying, even though I couldn't seem to get it right. I didn't give up. I didn't throw my hands in the air and say Fuck it, I'm just never gonna try to stop again. On the contrary, I thought to myself 'tomorrow I'll try again...' All I'm saying about New Years resolutions, is that making them should be something you do daily. Hourly. Keep trying. Hindsight is such a good view for us human beings, because we get to see the little moments all strung together that make up our lives. Losing weight is the NUMBER ONE New years resolution globally. What is wrong with us? If anything, we should resolve to love ourselves no matter what. Steady on." PERFECT! 🌍

Glad you gave yourself a bit of down time, Rick. Regarding the diet/weight loss. I have tried keto and carno a number of times, but my best long-term success has been with low carb(<20% carbs/day) and OMAD/2MAD limited to the number of calories corresponding to the basal metabolic rate to maintain my target weight, with good nutrition. In my case that's between 1700 to 1920 calories. I replaced sugar with allulose for the time I just need some sweetness, and I learned to cook most of my own food. The only time I permit myself to go higher than 20% carbs is the holidays. I freely admit to not adhereing to this perfectly, but one or two days at higher carbs will not destroy everything. I just get back on the program and just understand that a couple of days extra focus will be required. All the best for the new year.

All studies require funding to some extent, even those carnivore influencers you follow who cherry pick the data in studies they claim to be corrupt. The irony being they still use them to support their belief (confirmatory bias) for monetary gain. This is why studies are peer reviewed by qualified specialists independent of those who receive funding to conduct the study. They filter thru the correlated data to find where there are weaknesses, contradictions, what is included & what isnt, identify any bias. They look for good quality data that holds up to scrutiny. Science is a progression, always learning, a self correcting process. But the idea that all scientists are paid shills in the pockets of a corporation, or shadowy cabal & cannot be trusted is the domain of conspiracy theorists who have a deep seated mistrust which is what you describe yourself as. Yet on the other hand those who are down the rabbit hole often seem to have no quarrel following cranks & believe theories unsupported by evidence because they will not trust it. Government innit. Critical thinking has to be applied both ways.
