In this video we will compare the real Mosasaurus to the larger than life Jurassic World rendition of the animal! The Mosasaurus was the mightiest ocean predator of it’s time, but how different is the real animal from Hollywood's take? Watch this animation to find out!

Hello everybody! First off, I've finally linked all of my sources, including the test footage from Fallen Kingdom I used for scaling the Jurassic World Mosasaurus. However, be mindful that some sources I used may not be accessible to the public, and I'm happy to clarify anything on my discord server. I would like to thank you all for the support and overall positive reception of the first full scale animation for the channel! It really means the world to me and I'm excited ti make more animated videos going forward. In terms of the subjects I would like to cover, and the reasoning behind the new channel name "Nature's Compendium," I would like to encompass a variety of subjects pertaining to the natural world and the history of life on earth. My main focus will be on the evolution of certain animals, marine biology, tropical rainforest ecology, and reconstructing lesser known prehistoric ecosystems like the Pisco formation. While "How Scientifically Accurate" is not going to be a focal point of the channel, I will continue to produce them alongside the main animation projects I hope to create. Lastly, while the general reception of this video has been very positive, I am still grateful and appreciative of all constructive criticism. One of the most frequently brought up points is how the audio balance with background music and sound effects was distracting and too loud in certain parts. I will be sure to address this in future videos and be more mindful when working on the SFX design. Again thank you all for watching and I hope you look forward to the future of the channel! The next animation video is going to be on Sperm Whales, so stay tuned! 🐳🐳🐳

The Mosasaurus in Jurassic World is twice as big as an IRL mosasaurus. My guess is that the reason the creators went with this feature was because if the Mosasaurus was accurately sized, it would not be able to drag the Indominus down into the aquarium.

All of the animals in Jurassic World also were created with accelerated growth hormones so that they would be ready for exhibition faster, so perhaps the mosasaur's growth rate went far beyond what it was supposed to, thanks to the genetic amalgamation (or they gave it too many growth hormones to make it way bigger in order to impress guests, like you say).

Hey, it's got a tail fluke, a little one. Glad to see this series back. Tell you what, it's oversized so it's inaccurate, but if you think about it, this is an animal was a theme park attraction. Id argue that making it huge is actually contextually more realistic and would not be be that difficult to accomplish genetically speaking. And who knows, may be a bit of shastasaurus DNA

As much as I like your old scientifically accurate Jurassic World videos, this has to be the biggest improvement in the channel ever. Hats off to you, your video is not well done but expertly crafted. I indeed mean that. Mosasaurus is one of my favorite non-dinosaurs during the Mesozoic because of one of my favorite movies, Jurassic World. It's indeed nice to compare the JW Mosasaurus to the real one but what makes it better is the animation. It's indeed great and there's really good details in the video. The JW Mosasaurus does appear to be within the range of 60 to 70 feet in the first movie, it's just that in the sequel it inexplicably turned kaiju-size (likely due to lazy filmmaking not paying attention to continuity).

I think it is more closer to roughly 84 feet in length, which is still massive. Forced perspective on some scenes does change how we perceive objects. ILM stated they made it larger than its fossil counterpart so it was big enough to take down the Indominus rex.

Superb animation work, my dude! And I like how the video is structured too. And to all the folks preparing to spam the "Jurassic World isn't mean to be accurate because they're not real dinosaurs" line, I will mention again that since they are using the real taxonomic names of the animals, they are not exempt from criticism. Megafauna is still alive in the oceans today. Mossosaurs were a dominant fauna, but the giants in the ocean during the mesozoic were ichthyosaurs, which got as big as the biggest whales [including blue], some filter feeding fish and possibly sharks, but sadly sharks dont fossilize very well, especially the filter feeders with their little teeth [bones are cartilage].

At this point it's relatively common knowledge that the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park franchise are far from being scientifically/historically accurate in their physiology. They clarify the reason for this is because the dino's DNA is "impure". They're genetics are spliced with those of other living modern animals to fill in the missing gaps in the dino DNA the researchers in the movies were able to collect and that's why they look so different.

Great information about mosasaurs, and nicely animated. Regarding speculation about Jurassic World's mosasaur, my thinking has been simply that Jurassic World sucks, and is the opposite of what Jurassic Park was intended to be. I didn't even bother watching the sequel.

there was a rival in size and habits to mosasaurus hofmani. Tylosaurus from north America was of similar size. but so far, it has only been found from Kansas to texas, no where near the range of mosasaurus hoffmani, which here in north America, it was for many years believed to be a separate epecies, mosasaurus maximus.

@@SaurianStudios1207 a creature like that couldn't survive with a slow matabalism. And even if it could, the issue is still what it could actually eat... nothing but a full grown blue whale could even be considered a full meal for it and it would have to eat so often that blue whales within few months or maybe a year would probably become an endangered species.

one respectful critique (I mean no offence just thought I'd make that clear) I personally don't think it's actually that big. it's confirmed to be at least roughly 25-26.6 meters long, still a bit smaller that the LARGEST estimated Antarctic blue whale (33 meters at most). (i did very careful estimates with the scene where it eats the pteranodon which last I checked had a wingspan of 26-33 feet, and the wings were still poking out up it's elbows) so even if it continued to grow to a size similar to in this video (as there are species that continue to grow through their life bare in mind.) at most I'd maybe put it at 5-6 meters longer than a blue whale. aside from that, this video is FAR better than you're earlier ones by a HUGE margin, far less insulting to JP/JW fans, more respectful towards said folks and feels far less vindictive. good job. keep this up and you may very well have me as a subscriber. also i'm sorry for giving you a hard time before, over two years ago, whilst i do stand by what i said that day, i know now that the way i was going about it was kinda immature immature on my part. PS- my theory for the scutes was that they used borneo lizard DNA as that's a monitor lizard with croc-like scutes

Greetings! It's been a while good sir. In regards to the JW Mosasaurus size I based it off of the following test footage from fallen kingdom. Since the footage itself doesn't belong to me I didn't feel comfortable posting it in the video: instagram.com/p/BxiPZf-F8bA/?igshid=kegp0mvtp04k Since fallen kingdom is the most recent in the films timeline, I wanted my estimates to be based on how big the animal was in that film. And no need to apologize, as I was also immature when I initially started. I want these videos to be for everybody to enjoy and I hope to leave a positive and lasting impression on my viewers through the artwork and animations. Also, I didn't even think about the earless monitor lizard. Looking at it it does seem like a much better fit :)

@@NaturesCompendium 1- well to be fair test footage can often be a bit different from the final product. and whilst I do understand you're reasoning., I can say that even in FK, i wouldn't go as far as 45 meters. but that's just me.... so no need to me to gripe about it. once again, no offence meant. after all i will at least give you credit that your estimation wasn't completely kajiu sized if you want, you can have a look at this size chart i made- www.deviantart.com/taliesaurus/art/ASSETS-MEET-ANCESTORS-MOSASAURUS-799049787 2- indeed. one of the reasons why I like this video is because you aren't looking at JW's mosa as a "bad design" but more as you would look at a dog when comparing it to a wolf. after all, if there's one thing I find kinda realistic about JP/JW, it's that IF we ever made de-extinct creatures, there's a large chance they wouldn't be 100% the same as their ancestors. you get what I mean? that (to me personally) is a far more respectful way of looking at ingen's creatures. I myself did something similar. -www.deviantart.com/taliesaurus/art/ASSET-MEET-ANCESTORS-RAPTORS-790920188 -www.deviantart.com/taliesaurus/art/ASSETS-MEET-ANCESTORS-SPINOSAURUS-788766938 -www.deviantart.com/taliesaurus/art/ASSETS-MEET-ANCESTORS-TYRANNOSAURUS-793385816 -www.deviantart.com/taliesaurus/art/ASSETS-MEET-ANCESTORS-ANKYLOSAURUS-updated-795190850 -www.deviantart.com/taliesaurus/art/ASSETS-MEET-ANCESTORS-CERATOSAURUS-786511360 -www.deviantart.com/taliesaurus/art/ASSETS-MEET-ANCESTORS-MOSASAURUS-799049787

@@taliesincoleman6569 I agree on the de-extinction aspect. Even for animals that we do have viable DNA from like woolly mammoths, we still wouldn't get an animal that's 100% akin to the original animal. And for what it's worth aside from the larger size, the Jurassic World mosasaurus is one of the designs that's generally more reminiscent of the real animal as opposed to the raptors and pteranodons
